A Billion dollars to join the Board of Peace ?

When the Mob does it, they have the decency to call it 'protection' money.

Yeah. I do hope that folks will agree on viable path. Things are really uncertain and no one really knows how the new framework is going to be.

There, fixed it for you. If they hadn't misspelled it everyone would understand.

Given the frequency of Turnip's saber rattling, I would also suggest the alternate spelling: Bored of Peace.

Dear Mr. Mucilini,

So now you are erasing the 4th Amendment? Are you aiming for a Constitution that fits on a single sheet, one side? Or maybe a Post-It note?

Immigrants often don't open the door to ICE, but that may...

It has become common knowledge in immigrant communities across the U.S. to not open the door for federal immigration agents unless they show a warrant signed by a judge.

OMG now he's threatening a 100 % tariff on Canada if we make a trade agreement with China. All he's doing is motivating my Countries resources and trade with other countries.

Lol after all I already canceled my plans to goto Florida this Summer and my wife and I chose to visit friends in Britain instead.

If I were to send a message to Trump it would be somewhere along the lines of " that's cute, go play with the other children. The adults are talking"

My Dutch friends here also have cancelled their plans to visit the US, because of him.

It's unfortunate that he seems like one of those children like Damian in "The Omen." He's liable to push you off a balcony while you're changing a lightbulb.

I've noticed the Dutch are fairly immigrant friendly. If I could handle hot weather and bring my extended family, you would be calling me "neighbor."

I read last week where German politicians have have floated the notion of Canada joining the EU.

It makes little sense for countries in Europe to still send Billions to Russia for natural gas ( and to fund their war against Ukraine ) and then send money to Ukraine to fight off the Russians.
With a pipeline to the East coast, Canada could possibly supply most of Europe's NG needs, as well as an abundance of other natural resources, while dealing with relatively sane people ( at least until we get invaded by the US ).

I agree pipelines to both coasts only makes economic sense provided the relevant safeties vs leakage and detection are properly installed. Lol though in our times detection of theft would also be required

Nice descriptive lol

I have read multiple politicians talking about that since last year. However, I think there were legal requires such as being part of the European continent, which would make it impossible without overhauling these statutes.

Pipelines have been difficult in Canada for a lot of reasons (including environmental ones). But the calculus might shift in the current climate.

Dear sociopathic fascist moron,

I'm too worn out by discussing yesterday's tragedy in Minneapolis (at another forum) to go into detail on this but what the AF are your ICE goons doing there?

They are doing what every brownshirt and equivalent hit squad has been doing. Also note that this is just the latest, and by far not the first time it happened (and by it meaning ICE harming and killing, or attempting to kill folks and the administration immediately defending the action and blocking investigations into it).

Here is a opinion article on it https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/24/opinion/state-terror-has-arrived.html?unlocked_article_code=1.HFA.Bcwx.fietBxx8_AJj&smid=url-share

When we think of the terror regimes of the past, it is tempting to superimpose a logical narrative on them, as though totalitarian leaders had an extermination to-do list and worked their way through it methodically. This, I think, is how most people understand Martin Niemöller’s classic poem “First They Came.” In reality, though, the people living under those regimes never knew which group of people would be designated an enemy of the state next.

In Niemöller’s day, terror was carried out by the secret police and the paramilitary forces — especially the SA, more commonly known as the Brownshirts — whose job it was to instill fear in the population. In 1934, Adolf Hitler had an estimated 150 to 200 members of the SA’s own leadership arrested and its top generals executed in the ultimate demonstration that no one was immune from the state’s deadly violence. Stalin regularly carried out similar purges. Terror itself was not the end goal of those regimes, but nothing that followed would have been possible without it.

The toolbox isn’t particularly varied. President Trump is using all the instruments: the reported quotas for ICE arrests; the paramilitary force made up of thugs drunk on their own brutality; the spectacle of random violence, particularly in city streets; the postmortem vilification of the victims. It’s only natural that our brains struggle to find logic in what we are seeing. There is a logic, and this logic has a name. It’s called state terror.

Edit: I also wanted to add that Bovino in a CNN interview defined de-escalation as forcibly removing folks from the scene and using pepper spray. If that is de-escalation, it seems that murder simply falls under typical law enforcement action. This shift to devalue human lives, health and dignity is pretty much identical to what folks reporting/investigating on totalitarian regimes describe.

Can you imagine how many people would have been killed and injured during the January 6, 2021 attack on the capitol if the same tactics were used? Some of those people actually were armed and attacking police doing their jobs, unlike anyone in Minnesota.

They couldn't have used the same tactic, as the tactic involves ganging up on a single person who is not resisting.

In deference to OP, I'd also like to ask a question to the president. If the administration dislikes getting compared to Nazis, why can't they stop using Nazi lingo and reasoning for their actions?

True, but if they "felt endangered" by any of the people they shot, it seems to me they would have either used a lot of deadly force or fled the scene at the capitol.

I think the police did feel endangered, some suffered severe injuries. In fact, some police officers offered testimony to that effect during the inquiries.

In other situations it would most likely have ended in bloodshed (in the US, that is). There was some deliberate intention not to further escalate. IIRC there were orders from leadership not to e.g. use teargas or other means to use tear gas and other means. As a whole the situation appeared to have set up to support Jan 6 rioters and one might also add that quite a few in the police force might have felt sympathetic to them (before they were being pummeled that is).

Ultimately, they only opened fire once and there have been quite a few discussions regarding police actions against, say, black folks or BLM protesters in comparison.
