Hello, I am very frustrated I can’t manage to obtain the following reactions: (1) Combustion of sugar + NaHCO3 ( i.e. black snake or pharaoh’s snake ). No towering of ash is formed at all (2) NaOH + Al3+ H2O. The captured gas in the balloon does not make the balloon float. They are intended for a demonstration at a children’s ‘party’ / seminar. They are 8 years old. Please can anyone help ?

The Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction is an ocillating chemical reaction. The reaction really fascinates me as it is a very strange and interesting one. I would love to recreate it someday but the reactants required to do this reaction are: 1. Very expensive.(Malonic Acid) 2. Not commonly avaliable.(Ferroin) Is there any other substitute to Malonic Acid and the Phenanthroline Ferrous Sulphate as I am unable to obtain them. Are these reactants absolutely mandatory for this reaction? The equation for this reaction is: 3CH2(CO2H)2 + 4BrO−3 → 4Br− + 9CO2 + 6H2O Here is an image of this reaction. Please do help me out. Thanks So…

I wanted to figure out what would happen if we would take 500 cubic Km of air and compress it to a 1 cubic meter cube. How big will the explosion be? Will the compressed air turn liquid or solid? Is there any way of figuring that out? (if it is not possible to calculate that with the air on our athmosfere then lets say its pure oxigen)

Hello I am confused most papers says schiff base complexation with metals resulting in lower shift in Ir spectrum of azomethine group. As far as I know decreasing e density leads to increase the frequency vibration. However after intense inspections, I found two papers says it causes to increase the freq. Is it possible for both??

Hi chemistry lovers: Am Mario from Chile am a real amateur in the subject but with a purpose in mind due an ore that I found in a piece of land belonging to my family, thing is that I started a process for the values in this through a roasting (due the sulfides) then I did smelt it using sodium carbonate and borax acid and I did wash with water to get the rest of sodium carbonate, then I washed with muriatic acid and then with water, all of this steps were done in a glass vessel then I did set half of the ore and filled with near half of the vessel with chlorine and did fill time in time few drops of muriatic until reached the other half of the vessel, reaction was v…

I have experimental data and I'm trying to calculate partition coefficient. So I've synthesised a mineral from a seawater solution that contained Fe2+ and a range of trace metals. I'm interested in metal incorporation. The formula I've seen used is KD=M2+/Fe2+(solid) / M2+/Fe2+(solution). Is the ratio in solution the starting ratio, from the beginning of my experiment (before any solid formed), or the final ratio, from the end of my experiment (i.e. at apparent solubility equilibrium)? Can't find this simple bit of information anywhere. Thanks!

Good day everyone, I aimed to synthesize schiff base complexe with CuCl2. 2H2O. But I only have an aldhyde Ir spectrum from which its schiff base was made?!!! Why this is happened? The reaction was as follow : I added cu metal unhydrous ethanolic sol. Dropwise to hot ethanolic sol. of schiff base then reflex for about 3 hrs.

I'm not sure. I have a glass of 450 milliliter solvent. In this solvent are 5.40 g NaOH. The concentration is 0.300 mol / g. Are the 450 milliliters the volume of the solvent alone, or is it the volume of the solvent when NaOH is already present? And if it’s both, how can I find out the volume only of the solvent? Thanks for your anwsers

In my chemistry book there is the task that I should calculate the "average of atomic mass unit" of two isotopes of chlorine. The solution is that the "atomic mass units" are calculated. Then they are added together. (Example: 26,496u + 8,957u = 35,453u). And that is already the result. But if you calculate the average, you still have to divide by two. Why I dont have to divide in this calculation? Thanks for your answers

I want to break down multiple EDTA complexes for atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). Does anybody know how much HCl should be added relative to the (liquid) EDTA complexed samples aliquot? I want to make sure I fully protonate the EDTA to leave all metals in their ionic form for analysis, but I'm not sure how much acid this would require for each complex (Zn, Mn, Mg, Ca, Cu, Fe). Would the stoichiometric ratio just be 4 mol HCl to 1 mol EDTA (+ a little extra for safe keeping) or should I be putting in more/ less HCl? Any help is appreciated.

Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I recently took a deep interest in fuel cells. I am currently preparing for a Hydrogen Fuel cell powered RC car project, but I have some questions before starting on it. 1st of all, what is the best electrode to do the electrolysis process? Iron, stainless steel, platinum wire or pencil lead? 2nd of all, how to store the hydrogen made from electrolysis? Before I ask the third question though, this is some background information: I know how there is some educational PEM fuel cell selling online, but I really want to make one of those myself, having part of the materials bought online is fine though. The 3rd qu…

I have a question regarding clorox bleach. The washer I have in my house only has a warm wash, one that is more on the cool side, and my roomate claims that the bleach I purchased will not work properly in a cool water wash. I need the bleach to whiten and remove stains, and I told him that it would still work in a cool wash, but I really have no idea or evidence to prove this. Does anyone know if it will still work the same, or if hot water actually does anything different for the bleach?

I bought some Floweasy Drain Opener from Lowe's, and it says it's virgin sulfuric acid (93% I think) with twelve buffers. The problem is, it appears reddish-brown. What causes this, and how can I purify it?

Hi All New here, I hope an easy question? I have created some basic forensic activities and 'games' for kids (and adults). I would like to simulate the Chemiluminescence effect that Luminol creates when sprayed on blood using two (or more) other chemicals/liquids: For example, I want to spray/splash some translucent (chemical) liquid on a wall and then spray another chemical on that to create the glow you would get using luminol. Where I live (in Asia), luminol is difficult to get and VERY expensive (I would be doing this many times) ... importing it isn't an option, etc. Also, I don't want to use blood (health risks and I don't want to have to 'wipe' it …

My name's Simon, and I'd like to get hold of a kilo of pure SIMON! Glancing at the periodic table, I assume silicon molybdenum nitride (SiMoN?) would be simplest. Is this possible? If so, what are it's properties? If not, why not, and is there any other way to make pure SIMON? (Also, I can live with a few numbers in there, as I'm not up on my valencies!)

Hy!I have a question about ionic reactions (precipitation, color change). I need to prepare a short experiment. It must be interesting without, dangerous chemicals and without warming. It will be performed by 14-year-old students. Anyone have any idea? Is the experiment on this connection a part of ion reactions? https://melscience.com/en/articles/egyptian-night-experiment-190418/?utm_source=FBpost_en&utm_medium=EgyptianNight190418_article_enThank you for any information.
