  1. I've seen a number of formulae in electromagnetism refer to the "number of turns in a wire;" not some function that converges at infinity, but rather linear proportionality. (To things like magnetic field, magnetic inductance, etc...) I get that, in practice, once a current carrying wire generates a magnetic field, this creates a back emf and decreases current to some equilibrium level. But in that initial instant; when the current begins to flow; does this mean you could have a theoretically infinite magnetic field/inductance/etc... with enough turns of wire?

Hello Forum, I have a friend who is passionate about physics but is pretty naive and will believe pseudoscience and every Ted-talk that he sees as true science. We were arguing about the video below and he was really excited about it as I argued that (in my opinion) teleportation will not be possible as even if I will somehow travel a distance instantly, and have an exact copy of my cells, it will still be different "entity" more like an exact clone than the original. Aside from that the video below shows more of a travel at light-speed option not teleportation in the exact sense of the word. Can you please give more opinions/debunk/confirm or just tra…

  3. This is not mine, but I would like to post it here because a certain individual claims its the "truth" despite having no real basis in reality. "Light itself is merely a concept; light does not exist. Light is not an autonomous thing. It is a complex field modality, it is a coaxial circuit comprised of longitudinal refractions and transverse, whether that be linearly or circular polarization, electrical and magnetic components. What we actually have is a repeating toroidal pulse perturbation with which electricity, by the way being phi * psi = q of the planck of electrification (electricity is a hybrid of magnetism and dielectricity), we have a repeating toriodal patt…

We are dwelling in this space-time reality. The question that I want to convey now is that"Does our space-time has a boundary?" Or an edge? Is it finitely or infinitely distributed? What is the position of science with regards to this inquiry nowadays?

  5. I seem to remember a while back the Alcubierre drive when used for FTL presented several problems not the least of which was a huge release of gamma radiation at the destination. But there was also a mention that the drive could be used for slower than light travel as well and so used didn't cause any radiation problems. I have googled it quite a bit but i can't find a reference to the slower than light use of Alcubierre drive. Is this a possibility? I did find this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive

The source of all Gravity is mass-energy. So is there any way to block the pull of gravity or modify it? (I know nothing proven yet but I would like to hear any theories if you guys know)

I'm having a weird brain fart with thrust conversions, if someone can point out what I'm doing wrong... please ignore rounding errors for the sake of brevity. My issue is that I'm getting different values for thrust in Newtons when I convert using the following two paths: lbm-->lbf-->N lbm-->kg-->N e.g. lbm --> N = (6000 lbm) * (32.174049 ft/s^2) * (4.44822 N/lbf) = 858704 N lbm --> kg = (6000 lbm) * (.45 kg/lbm) = 2700 kg Right? Now here is the contradiction that I'm seeing with whatever I'm doing wrong: however, kg --> N = (2700 kg) * (9.81 m/s^2) = 26700 N 2700 kg was calculated from 6000 lbm... but we already showed that 6000 …

  9. I've been curious about methods of generating electrical current from kinetic energy and hadn't looked into the Piezoelectric effect before. So my understanding is that Piezoelectric materials create an electric current when they are deformed/displaced by a physical force, am I right in thinking that if I hook a multi-meter up to a quartz crystal and then hit that crystal with a rubber mallet that the multi-meter will show a increased current?

Electricity -What is the clearest way of differing kW(Kilo-watt) and kWh(Kilo-watt/hour)?I get confused sometimes. -Why does atoms in a conductor heat up when gaining enegry from electric charges? Forces and pressure(basic) -How does streamlined shapes reduce air resistance? -Why is the friction produced by frictional force going in different direction of the motion? -How does a spring balance measure friction?(Need a bit of a more simpler explanation) Would appreciate if anyone chip in to help! Thank you so much in advanced

If light doesnt degrade, can be used as a power source and can even be slowed down and takes up no space so can be stored in infinitely dense concentrations. Why dont they make batteries out of light? Sounds like they have the technology to do it. And I cant imagine cost is a factor, light is free.

  18. Hi, I am making a life size Tardis, I would like to create the illusion of the Tardis being bigger on the inside, such as the Tardis in the following link - Is there any way that a full size Tardis could be made so that a person could walk inside and not see reflections of themselves? With the small Tardis in the link, the panel of polarised plastic stops the outside reflections and the outside appears black. The problem with a full size version is that when someone walks inside there are many reflections of the person in the mirrors, the Tardis still looks bigger on the inside, but there are many reflections of the person. Is there any way this could be made full size an…

Hi scienceforums ! it's my first time in this forum. I need your help for a problem in thermodynamics. I just started this field so my knowledge it's limit for now. My problem : Steam in a cylinder-piston arrangement expands from an initial condition of 5 bar, 80% dry to a final state of 2 bar, dry saturated steam. The initial volume of steam is 0.8 m3. The process of expansion can be represented by a straight line on the p-V diagram. the mass of steam in the system ? [kg] the work done by the system ? [kJ] the change in energy of the system ? [kJ] the heat absorbed by the system ? [kJ] Maybe it's a simple problem but really I tried,…

hi i'm brand new here i hope this is a good subforum to place this my son is doing some projects with lenz's law and other electromagnetic things what we are looking for are non metallic clamps and stands that can hold things . for example he has a heavy copper pipe to drop magnets through.. it would be nice to be able to hold it up with clamps and a stand that are non-metallic.. this pipe for example is 101 copper 12 inches long inner diameter of 1 inch wall thickness of .25 inch .. so it is quite heavy any ideas what we can use or where we can buy the things we need.. thinking inside or outside the box ..any help would be greatly appreciated

  24. First of all Hello! I'm new here! Now for what I hope is a reasonably basic query.... I am trying to devise a test to evaluate detrimental effects of UV radiation, primarily on rubber and plastic components. There are many standards that I have found covering this sort of thing but I am having difficulty finding a suitable one because my understanding of UV radiation is limited. I don't have much time to research the subject extensively so here I am! Originally, I had a test planned in that requires the use of full spectrum lamps that replicate the full light spectrum emmited by the sun. This test obviously has an element of IR radiation that causes considerab…

  25. I am an ordinary guy, no academic, I am just curious about something. At present we can't get a self sustaining reaction for long, this much I understand. And I realise its of no practical use, but can we sustain a fusion reaction if we sustain the input power (ignition)? I realise the output would be lower thus rendering the point of it useless. Cheers.
