How do we distinguish between different molecules of the same element? Secondly what is the mass of tri-atomic hydrogen? Thirdly what is the bond length of tri-atomic hydrogen. Finally what is the effective strength of the nuclear force of the individual nucleons and the average nuclear bond length in femtometers.

I'm supposed to balance the following equation: [latex] HCl + As2O3 + NaNO3 + H2O -> NO + H3AsO4 + NaCl [/latex] Anyways, I got stuck stuck here... [latex] HCl + As2O3 + NaNO3 + 3H2O -> NO + 2H3AsO4 + NaCl [/latex] No matter what I do I couldn't get H and O to balance out at the same time! When I balance O, the H is out of balance, and when I balance H, O is out of balance! Augh! How do I do this? I realized that I might have posted this on the wrong topic of the forum. Is it possible for me or a moderator to delete this topic? I am going to post it again on the homework help section. Sorry!

I saw a nice documentary about modern materials yesterday. One of them brought up an interesting concept... which as far as I know is yet to exist, but would be fantastic if it did: Materials that can regenerate. The idea was that via smart materials, objects (such as buildings) could use a system to heal themselves, similar to how biological organisms heal wounds. If you cut your arm, the cut eventually closes and heals without leaving a permanent sign (in most cases). So the idea would be that if someone crashes into a bridge and cracks its side, the material detects the crack and dispatches tiny structures which leak the same material in place to glue the crack. Su…

Just generally curious on how manufactuers covalently attach enzymes to antibodies for EIA's, and not denature or alter their function. Is there any particular type of reaction mechanism involved? ~Thanks, EE

I was working on a pharmaceutical company as a quality control analyst. I have 4 year bachelor chemistry degree from a low reputed university in Turkey . They hired me with mentioned that 1 month trial period firstly. After that, they fired me almost 1 month time... They've started teaching me some bulk density and sieve analysis in 3rd week. Because they told me first 1 and 2nd weeks are audit weeks which maintained by external inspection personnels. While, they are teaching me in 3rd week , they just showed me in 2 days for all of the analysis. So, they told me "you are not learning quickly. It takes much time to learn." They also said "you are not concentrated on this…

for our chemistry controlled assessment, we had to choose a salt and perform an experiment that would effect the temperature change of a salt mixed with water. we chose to use potassium chloride. the amount of water we used was 25ml, which remained constant for each test we did. we performed the test over 7 different values of salt, from 0.5 - 6g and we repeated each test 3 times to ensure accuracy. Here is a table of our results. All of the temperatures were measured in degrees Celsius. amount of salt. (g) starting temperature. end temperature. temperature difference 0.5. 25. …

Starting a story about a world without electricity or vehicles. Think post apocalyptic world without an apocalypse. Going back to nature. I already know how to get rid of natural gas and oil, my dilemma is coal. We use it to power nearly 40% of America and my understanding is that carbon is the property in coal that is used to produce heat / electricity? I realize carbon is a basis of life so is it possible to have coal that couldn't be turned into energy?

Our organic teacher stated today that commercial gasoline ranges from .71-.79 g/cm^3 today in lecture. Why does gasoline have various values of density? Does it have anything to do with the various octane ratings you can purchase? Are there any other reasons?

Recently , when I was reading about molecular orbital theory I came by molecule c2 (dicarbon) it was told that there are two π-bonds b/w the two carbon and no sigma bond ,so please any one will explain it to me ?

According to MO theory two types of molecular orbitals are formed b/w bonding atoms ,bonding and antibonding , and it is due to the interference in phases(in or out) of electron wave .but waves are continuous (not descrete at trough and crests)so in molecular orbitals why only two types of orbitals are created(bonding and antibonding)and not many else due to interference of other parts of waves .

I wonder if there is any substnace that can allow us to jump higher (I'd also consider its effect on animals, can we make any animal jump higher?). As regards strengh, I bet adrenaline is the one that improves our power. Are there any others (few examples please)?

Greetings again, I am currently amusing myself by creating a simulation of an atom using C# and Unity 3D, however I find that I am not comfortable enough with Schrödinger's Equation to properly code it ! Do You have any good source material You could refer to Me? Or better yet, are You good with these equations and can be found on Skype with ease? Any help would be appreciated, Thank You -The Overlord

Hi everyone Just wondering what's the problem with a quadruple bond between two C-atoms. Why is this not possible? I mean, if you promote an electron from the full s-orbit to the empty p-orbit, without hybridization, on each atom, why can't they have one sigma-bond and 3 pi-bonds? Or is hybridization 'obliged' with promotion of an s-electron? Thanks. F.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a good book for beginners to help me get my head around chemistry. I've read "What is Chemistry," by Atkins, which I found too elementary (although I did learn about the different types of chemical reactions). I attempted to read "Organic Chemistry Demystified," but it was too advanced. I need something that's going to cover electron shells, stoichiometry and all the basics in detail (perhaps with exercises) to I can eventually move on to learn organic chemistry. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance,

Im actually working on a pharmaceutical industry as a quality control analyst. Well, our lab. chief told me that "you should accelerate your lab. works."they said it Because Im not accustomed to this kind of work for more than 2 years. My chemistry 4 year background was at 2 years back. I need your suggestions to improve my lab. practise in pharmaceutical quality control lab. I have psychological focussing problem, also my hands accustomed to hard works (like carpenter, carrier) before. Also Im not heedful, i always forget much more things when i do my work tasks..

I have been Searching and listing some cool online tools for chemistry (free). Please tell me what are available on the net. Here is what I have already used: 1. Webqc.org : About 20 online calculators in chemistry like gas laws etc. Old website, looks old too. 2. http://www.calistry.org : About 50 calculators in chemistry, looks modern and is pretty handy but does not shows up in google frequently. 3. http://web.chemdoodle.com/demos/iupac-naming : IUPAC nomenclature, wow kind of tool ! Please let me know other tools!!

I am actually working on a pharmaceutical industry and in quality control lab. as an analyst. I have 4 year chemistry bachelor degree. So, my question is what are the possibilities in this area in order to do my career up? If I go into master which qualify and benefit can I gain for myself and company purposes? What are the extra degrees should I study? What are the certificates / courses should I go? What are the chances of my future career opportunities in pharmaceutical industry? How can I educate myself to prevent from firing (from the firms)? Does 4 year chemistry degree enough to lift up in the career ladder for future?

Greetings everyone! For about some weeks now I've been looking up some reactions over the web, and I am glad to say that a good amount has been generated within myself, which moved me to reproduce some reactions (thermite, and some other pyrotechnics), and started collecting several kinds of metals. After some experimentation, my desire changed ways and went more into trying to understand the "why's and how's" that are hidden within Chemistry, and thus an interest in augmenting my current levels of knowledge in that subject. To start, I decided to look back on my old school notes, but realized that there's not the really intriguing answers I was looking for, so I …

With increased CO2 output in the atmosphere, there is talk that the oceans will/are becoming more acidic via carbonic acid (note: only talking about CO2, not other pollutants). However, if the Earth is getting warmer, and the ice caps are melting, in the near future, won't that decrease the oceans acidity or at least keep it constant, due to the fact that gases are MORE soluble in colder conditions rather than warmer/ hotter condition? ~ee
