I am in the middle of an article, and I am not a biologist. I would like to know several things. How long can a human being work in 160 degree heat (Fahrenheit)? At what temperature does working being dangerous?

This was taken with a wildlife camera in Sopchoppy, FL. It looks like it could be a mangey dog but another photo was taken that shows a group of them. I can post that one as soon as I have my hands on it. Thank you!

OK I read that some neurons are in your body for life. Are organelles in these neurons replaced? What about nucleus and mitochondria?

The ratios of oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen inside the human body are fairly common knowledge, but what I'm looking for is a breakdown of where these (and other essential elements ... particularly potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium) are stored in the body. I'm looking for an elemental makeup (by mass) of the Bones, Kidney, Liver, Brain, Skin, Blood, Heart, Lungs, and Muscles. Anyone know where I might find one?

I've always wondered how any person could bear to breathe oxygenated perfluorocarbons. I mean sure, as long as the liquid oxygenates the lungs it would keep you alive, but I would think it is an extremely traumatic experience for whoever does it; both physically and mentally. But besides the fact that I very much doubt that a person could acclimatise as quickly as in the movie "The Abyss", how would they keep from swallowing the liquid? Swallowing is an unconscious action for the most part; are perfluorocarbons safe to swallow? And I'm just curious; has anyone other than deep sea divers breathed this stuff before? Dan Brown's new book "The Lost Symbol" claims that the…

Hello everybody, I would like to excuse me for what I'm going to do. I know that is quite disrespectful toward our community, and I would like to add that my parents hadn't educated me like that. But today, in my point of view, I have to be disrespectful and "spam" your forum, because I think that my idea could be productive and because I think that your clever minds can understand this. I come in this forum guilty and humble, in front of us, because I'll certainly need help of some of you. I know it isn't the right part of the forum, and actually, it's even not the right forum. I'll need your ideas and your advices. I know that it's quite strange to throw a rock tro…

Hi guys. I have a quick question about blood lysis, and I hope you can give me some pointers. I am doing a lab technique which requires erythrocyte (red blood cell) lysate. I collect whole blood (using heparin), centrifuge and discard the plasma and white blood cells. The red blood cells are then added to 4X their volume of distilled water and put on ice for 5 minutes ('lysis stage'). It is then centrifuged again, yielding this: (sorry the image isn't great quality) There are three layers: - a dark red pellet at the bottom [blue line] - a cloudy middle layer, very gloopy/gelatinous [pink line] - a clear pink liquid on top [yellow line] My quest…

OK I have a question, I know consciousness is a process but does it depend on motion/energy or position of particles? Like for example, if the particles that make up the human body were arranged in the same way that they were while you were conscious (including, electrons, brain waves, etc) but everything was frozen at absolute 0 (only so no movement could occur) would the person be conscious (and perpetually thinking the same thought) or unconscious?

Giant African Land Snails are really big for snails, and make great pets. I was wondering however especially given how easy they are to look after and breed if breeding for traits such as extra size has been tried?

What are these "pits" on the stink bug, are they pits, or just the way the light is hitting the bug or just wrinkles in it's skin? Or perhaps they have gills?

Based on prior knowledge that testicle temperatures have to be cooler for optimal production and lifespan of sperm, I heard that marine mammals do not have a scrotum and keep their balls in their bodies. How do they keep their balls cool? Can the same mechanisms work on land if such a mechanism evolved too later on? One sex joke made by a my friend who studies bio-chem was that if men kept their balls to themselves, there would be less incidents like the below. http://www.whatsonsanya.com/news-17236-outrage-sparked-after-monkey-bites-off-boy-s-testicle-at-zoo-in-guizhou.html
