what were the causes for Ice age animals( large herbivores ) or animals extinct 15000-5000 years ago in tropical America ?? i learned North american mega fauna extinct because of global warming,a meteoroid impact BP 13000 years ago,and human impact also Eurasian ice age animals died out because of warming. climate warming probably gave the large mammals heat strokes but how could End of Ice age affect Tropical megafuna because they were already adapted to hot environment, human hunted them for food but it's impossible to accept human were the cause of extinction

Often brought up in the origins debate is that abiogenesis and evolution are two completely different things due to the mutability of organism or its ability to reproduce. But, the ability to reproduce and thus producing gene duplications and mutations is nothing but the possibility to add some new molecular structure to the existing living system. But exactly the same possibility exist in some lifeless chemical system also - some new molecular structure can be added to the existing lifeless chemical system. Natural selection of this chemical system is then differential survival(existence in time) and the ability to add new molecular structures. Those structures that …

So, I know that B cells need T cell help for proper activation and isotope class switching. But, in some autoimmune diseases (such as Rheumatoid arthritis) antibodies are produced of the IgG isotope that are specific for DNA. DNA cannot be presented to MHCs on B cells, therefore it cannot be presented to T cells either. So how exactly would you get an auto immune response? Anyone have any ideas to explaining this phenomena? Any help/insight would be much appreciated

This is not intended to be sexist in any way. However I notice that women are most of the time colder than males, is it something to do with muscle mass or fat stores. Looking forward to feedback.

I am currently in the process of composing a highly psychophysical piece of text of which I do not yet know of what my end goal is upon completion. It is designed to question the world as we see it and furthermore open up the mind of the reader speaking of scientific research which shows that the colour we all call "Green" for instance, to some people actually see as "Blue" however because we've always been told from birth it is called as such, people don't question. I am at a part of my work of which speaks about how complex our body is, speaking of human DNA and I would like to ask the scientific community of these forums; If a single strand of DNA was of the sa…

Hello, I hope I've come to the right place. I am a aspiring mycologist searching for some expert advice. I intend on culturing pure mushroom mycelium in liquid media. Sometimes the liquid culture can get contaminated. It is a very controversial topic of whether or not this is always detectable by the naked eye. Does anyone have any foresight or wisdom on this matter? I have a microscope that I've used to scope some liquid culture but I am not sure if this will suffice. 400x maginification is what I used. Normally if a liquid culture is contaminated with bacteria, it turns cloudy, or there is obvious growth on the side of the container or top of the liquid medi…

Hello, today I will be linking the Big Bang with Christianity. While reading the bible, I have noticed a lot of empty spaces in the story, and that it is possible to perfectly fit some Atheist beliefs into them, just like when your putting together a puzzle, and you have 1 missing piece, but then you find the missing piece somewhere where you would never expect for it to be. First of all, in the bible, it clearly states that God created the Earth, and says nothing about the whole universe. Yes, I know in the bible it often says that God created the universe, but often in ancient times, people often referred to the Earth as the universe, since it's technically all that the…

Ethnozoology and anthrozoology.... Both these disciplines seem almost identical yet completely separate. And a Google search didn't bring much illumination. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello, Iron fertilization is the process of fertilizing select zones of the ocean with iron compounds, so that it no longer acts as a trace element in the ocean. Thus, by removing the limitation on phytoplankton (marine algae), we can induce artificial phytoplankton blooms which draw in more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Based on what I've studied, iron fertilization might potentially increase fish populations as well as reduce carbon emissions. Do you think it is a good idea? Why/why not?

Hi everyone, As far as I know, both of my biological parents are Asian, though dad side have shown some non-Asian features. Recently I start getting this ginger beard, and it seems to be getting more and more. I did some research and it appears to be a form of incomplete dominance. I did genetics as my major, but do correct me if I am wrong. I carry a mutated mcr1 gene from my parents. Can the mutated gene be Asian origin? Because I do show a lot of non-Asian features. Please let me know your thought guys. Regards, Franky

Hi! I prepared some broth that i thought was regular NB. Turns out is was malt extract broth. I inoculated it with a few Lactobacillus, Micrococcus Luteus, E. Coli K12 and bakers yeast. I didn't have time to make new broth so i put it in the incubator for Friday and hoped for the best. Are my bacteria dead or do you think there will be growth? It doesn't have to be quick, just work. Thanks, Erik

Just spit balling here from a person that has little education on the subject. I'm not actually sure how the mechanisms of the beginnings of adolescents/ageing works But have there been studies/tests/conclusions/theories on what happens if those hormones released in adolescents are suppressed to childhood levels (I don't just mean testosterone or estrogen or DHT or growth hormone. I mean ALL of them, including ones I didn't list. Much more comprehensive repression than for example a loss of testicular function before adolescents) Would the suppression influence the life expectancy? I know it sounds silly because as far as I understand ageing is due to the…

Hi, I have a question. Is the brain completely mapped by current science ? As in do we know every part of the brain and it's role ? Or is research in this department still needed ?

Questions for somebody intelligent out there. I like to clean my keyboards, remote controls, sometimes faucet and door handles, etc. with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). I do this usually when somebody in the household is sick or has been sick. Ill do it randomly like once a week as well. Does this kill germs on surfaces? It damn sure gets everything nice and clean looking I know that. Ive done this forever as I learned it from my parents. So is it an effective way to disinfect these surfaces?

Hy everyone! I am 24,5 years old and I am from Belgium. I have a question about delayed body growth. I have noticed something peculiar. I measured my body height a few times over the past years. At the age of 16 my height was 1m63. Between the age of 18 and the age of 23, my height was 1m74 to 1m74,5. Today I measured my height again and it was 1m75,4. It must have increased by 1cm over the past year/year and a half. How is this possible and could I grow even more? I always measure it in the morning, because I am aware of the fact that it can vary 1 cm over the day. I have never measured 1m75,4, until today. I ask this question because my diet and exercise habits durin…

Hi all, Is it possible without being in a science laboratory, etc to genetically modify plants you can get from your garden, change the genes or something, mix them or something, and see what happens e.g; http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2007/spectrum_plants.html

Last question , ~Will it mutate a human that is injected by a Artificial Chromosome with healing factor ? That's all hope you can answer all of my question.
