I recently purchased a laser projector, and I am impressed by the overall quality and performance, but I have been wondering how do laser projectors work?? I do know that in newer projectors they use a cyclical method of rotating RGB diodes. Would a laser projector work the same way but instead use laser diodes.?? I have been wondering ever since I got mine.. http://www.engadget....pico-projector/ Looking to finally understand how it works.

Hi, does anyone know of techniques which can reveal hidden pigments on rocks? A friend has found stones with prehistoric pictures. He threw what he thought was a plain stone in a fire, and a picture appeared. So he started paying more attention to stones coming out of a pit where construction work is being done. One of them has a picture of Mastodon. He believes these are from pre clovis people, and is in a county in New Jersey. Right now we have a hundred questions. The first question is what is the best way to reveal the pictures. A black light doesn't do anything. Is there something that will increase the visibility of the pictures? Any suggestion for…

I would like to start an ongoing discussion with anyone interested in conversing with an open mind (meaning open to the evidence) and respectful tone on the idea of applying the scientific method holistically and systematically, to the social design. Now, many after reading this sentence might think to themselves, "wait a minute, we already live in a society that applies the scientific method". While this is true to a certain extent, I would argue that we really have just begun to use the knowledge and technology we have to make society function better and improve our lives. It seems that our age old institutions, superstitions and traditions have a monopoly (literal…

I have two objections to archeology's claim to be a science. First, it bases its inferences on data samples which would be considered utterly inadequate to prove the same sorts of assertions in history or in a court of law. A few Egyptian coins of the 2nd century B.C. are found in Massalia, and suddenly archeologists conclude that there must have been significant trade going on between Massalia and Egypt, when in fact the find may have been just a chance event, with some Massalian in the 1st century A.D. having been a collector of old Egyptian coins. Second, its inferences operate on the assumption that peoples in the distant past thought just like us, which we w…

Hi everyone, I once read a story that a man calculated the value of PI upto a substantial number of decimal places manually. It was later discovered (after his death) that after a certain number of places - the calculation was wrong. I sort of need to find the story. Google search didn't turn up anything. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks. [PS: sorry if this is the wrong forum - this seemed like the best fit]

I've been looking around on the internet searching for research being done on eternal life. Unfortunately all that came up was some magnetic ring and toe braces. Is there any real research being done?

I had an idea...[I doubt anyone will be interested however...no one here listens to my ideas...Maybe it's because you all think they are stupid or not worth talking about...instead of ignoring me could you at least tell me why you ignore them...(in a nice way...)] I was wondering why industries such as agriculture and apiculture have not yet converged like consumer products have and I was doing research on blast furnaces and came up with a way of boosting the purpose and efficiency of them. The heat inside a blast furnace reaches far above 100 degrees C which is all that is necessary for power generation. [using steam to move a turbine] The heat is only used t…

I just came across that bit here: My link Essentially Eric Cantor proposes to cut wasteful spending by having citizens sift through grants approved by the National Science Foundation and pick out grants that are "questionable". As you may know, grant applications go through a rigorous review process and the vast majority of all grants are kicked out (depending on mechanism success rate is somewhere between 1-10 %). While outreach is a good thing, this call puts the science to be discussed already in a negative perspective. Moreover, NSF grants require a statement of their broader impact. From the submission guidelines: What do you think abou…

Hello Sir, I am not sure whether I should start this here? I just wanted to know how scientific theories are presented. About legal issues, copyright issues, the platform for the presentation, procedure involved, and any other things concerned. Any information fellows? Thank you.

I wasn't quite sure where to put this so I decided to put it in "Other Sciences". Are there truly completely random evnts? In my opinion all things happen for a reason. There can only be one possible outcome due to the various laws of the universe. Do truly random events actually happen? If there is a better place to put this please tell me.

hello guys. im new to this site and im sure if im posting in the right section so im sorry if im not. well recently ive really gotten into card throwing. im pretty good, like i can throw it really fast. However, when i try throwing it at a piece of styrofome, a wall or anything, it never sticks. The grip i use is when you put the card between your middle and index finger and the bottom of the card touches your palm. I really hope someone can help me out. I wanna know if thats a viable grip to get a card to stick and what grip i would be better off with. Thank You!!

Circular Circles in Perspective We know that a circle in perspective is an ellipse. Here is the traditional method of constructing such a view. With a viewpoint a horizontal distance d from the centre of a target circle of radius r (Fig 1) The eye (camera) is horizontal and viewing a target circle on a horizontal surface directly in front but a vertical dimension h below eye level The resultant image is – an ellipse. If however the circle is further below, using the same construction, the image rotates 90 degrees. (Fig 2) Could there be therefore, a …

My main interests go along these lines would you define it as philosophy? Everything relates, The smallest decision one makes can have a tremendous and lasting difference on your life, For instance A woman and her child are walking down the street and are met by a man in purple pants. They notice him because of his unusual attire. They watch as the man bends over and picks up a quarter on the sidewalk he smiles and the woman smiles back. They engage in conversation about a penny saved is a penny earned and realize they enjoy each others company and as such set a date for the future. The man continues on to a job interview and the woman shopping for her son. The man ge…

The reason there's color is because of different wavelengths of light, right? Does that mean if there's no light at all, then things are actually colorless? Like if a there's a red box in a room with no windows, and you turn the lights off, then does that mean the red box isn't really red anymore? Or is it still red?

CIRCLES IN PERSPECTIVE 3 When you are not looking at them! When we view the rim of a cup on a table directly in front of us, the major axis of the elliptical image we see is always horizontal from whatever angle we view it. However, it does tilt if the cup is positioned to left or right of our centre of vision. Here is a way to establish that tilt angle. On essentially a picture plane - a. Draw a horizontal line AB representing eye level and the vertical centre line of vision CD intersecting at O. b. Describe a "boundary" circle radius d centred on O intersecting CD at X and Y. "d" is equivalent to the distance of the viewpoint in …

Hey...I didn't know anywhere else to post this... What if space really was moving...what if our movement meant we only saw the same side of space... What if the entire universe was spinning...again what if we only see the same side of the universe like we only see the same side of the moon... What if that spinning included space-time...[same thing here]

Humans typically brand themselves as illogical and so is their decisions, but I have a theory that could well explain our algorithms, and enable a breakthrough in the creation of human-like computer programmes. However, what I want to know is, can i post a theory paper without statistics, as my theory might prove near impossible to prove?

I was watching some show a few years back that featured a roman water device. This device used the pressure of the water to push up some other water in a continuous cycle. They used it as a sort of fountain. Does anyone know what it is called or seen a diagram of it online?

I have just been informed that while I'm sleeping and there is a slight disturbance my eyes will suddenly become wide open. I do not remember this at all and I am pretty sure I never was actually wide awake at this time. How is this possible? Is this common?

Should you put your PhD thesis (in mathematics, physics or similar) on the arXiv? What are the potential pros and cons? Will anyone read it anyway? Is yours online? I am thinking about placing my thesis on the arXiv. To an extent it has been superseded by preprints since. Also, I do not think it contains anything particularly revolutionary or is of very wide interest. Any thoughts and comments welcomed.
