Seen any good sculptures made from almonds lately? Note: no other nut-based sculptures may be discussed under threat of the ban-hammer!

In the should homosexual marriages be banned thread question of sex for fun in other critters came up, someone mentioned dolphins, I added bonobos Not sure why I did though, specifically not sure why should be necessary to single out some critters as engaging in sex for fun and not others Aside from questions of how to determine purpose in non-verbal critters, though think can be inferred at times, real question is if is assumed other critters are not having sex for fun, then what is the presumed "reason" To assume they have connected sex to reproduction is silly. In part, comes down to a question of is sex fun or is lack of sex not fun, but either way a…

Hi everybody, lemme get straight to the point, I aimed my life to be a scientist/researcher (mainly on math & physic). But at the same time I'm worried on financial problem(having a job is not easy as it sound). Fortunately, researching is not my only interest, creating & building stuff also such as programming. btw, I'm just a newbie on c++ for now. Either to take my "desired road" of learning (ignoring financial problem, which I don't know how things will going) or just take some moment for the "safe road" to stabilize my income. anyway. the 'keypoint' of choice here is time, experience & income. choosing "desired road" would save me some time f…

As an importer I see a lot of different products, but these ones from China are just the bees knees. I don't know just how much fun you could have with these little darlings hidden in the greenery. http://animal-maker.com/Product.asp?big=86&page=1 A range of 183 animatronic dinosaurs, many if not most are life sized with movements and sound. They even have a Plesiosaur for the pool. They have a variety of creatures from other periods as well, from the pre dinosaur, bowel loosening Gorgonopsid to the relatively recent Mammoth and associated big cats. Oh for a large property, some solar panels to keep the critters charged and a bunch of Boy Scouts on…

I'm not an idiot. According to all the tests I'm actually suppose to be a genius. I've had IQ tests, MRI's and CAT scans, Blood taken and worked on a number of studies about intelligence. Some of these, I've led myself. Others were tests done when I was a kid, without knowing or understanding what they were or why. My first IQ I scored 120-150. My last test I was 160 (about 8 years ago). Yet, I barely passed high school. I only managed to get the last credits I needed by sneaking into my boyfriends computer class. I did a 3 year course, in 3 months. Why? Modules were there, everything I needed for the class was available, and hell why not? Not like I'm supp…

Are humans only capable of receiving images through their eyes? Would it be possible to make a blind person see by sending images constantly to their brain using an input other than the eyes?

Could you help me figure out what the problem is here: Sometimes certain completely unrelated sites will become inaccessible to me, I can't connect to them using any browser. This will last for days and then become accessible and then inaccessible again. I can't find any reason for this. I did a virus search with NOD and a scan with malwarebytes antimalware and nothing came up. Does anyone know what this could be?

Hi. What is being done with the heat released by spent nuclear pellets ? Is it just released to atmosphere, or some industrial application is being fulfilled ? Is the heat produced by spent pellets used to preheat water that supplies reactors thus using the energy ? For several levels of radioactivity in the spent pellets; is there a safe one (or shielded one) that if we lived in a world of saints and security was not an issue, a plain size home could use its heat for winter warming; how many pellets would do the task and how long would they last performing reasonably well ? Somewhere I read one spent pellet (about a cubic centimeter?) has the energy of 500K…

Hi. Perhaps anyone knows or has/has seen the "Michael's wheel" ? Been trying to buy one and the only provider I can find feels iffy to deal with. It is supposed to be a magnetic toy / desktop curiosity; picture attached, but have no information on it. The site that had details does not exist any more. Thanks.

My English 101 teacher told us to not put a comma before "because." However, it seems like the comma could make an important distinction when the first part of the sentence contains two verbs. I'll give an example. "Don't drink the tea that is steaming (,) because..." "Don't drink the tea that is steaming (,) because it is evaporating." I would say no comma because the because-portion is related to the latter verb, "steaming." "The tea that is steaming because it is evaporating," can be considered an independent part of the sentence. "Don't drink the tea that is steaming (,) because you already burnt your tongue once today." I would say add the comma beca…

In my childhood days i used to watch a lot of lawn tennis and there were so many younster women players jennifer capriati, stefi graff, monica seles...etc. Nowdays if you see tennis one gets to see all middle aged tennis players like they first spent youth elsewhere, got married and even had children, and then came to play deliberately in international tennis. Earlier the young ladies tennis players used to play tennis first! As i remember lindsay davenport was the first such women who started such middle aged tennis matches!!!

In January my wife and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. We live in the midwest portion of the US and plan to visit another country (or more) for two weeks sometime in 2013. At this time anywhere is a possibility and we are trying to narrow it down. We tend toward more simple things, such as eating where the locals eat rather than in high-end restaurants, or staying in a local lodge rather than in 5 star hotels. We spend a lot of time outdoors although we do like cities and museums. Our last few vacations were in the US and included hiking in Colorado, renting a cabin on Lake Superior, and exploring the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver, Canada. We've …

Hi, i have been reading about iraq wars since my childhood. And there have been also many hollywood movies made about gulf war. But i just came to know that iraq which gets mention as bethlehem is infact a population of white skin african race muslims. So on tv and in media they show iraqis as good english and urdu speaking country, but infact is a african language speaking country but white in color. So their habitual lifestyle living is very much similar to africans, algiers, tunisia, algeria..etc. So does americans have an affinity towards african like countries like nigeria, iraq etc???

hi, i came on the internet in the years 2000 till 2012. So as i wrote many a topics in years 2000 about various countries, many white countries even seclusive, dull or even modest behaviour societies read my readings. And in years to 2006, tried to do many changes in their societies, like new world order. So it seems that many foreign nations through their visionary knew about me and would had welcomed me without any hitch. So i think the world before 2000 year must had been different, carefree world, few restrictions,...etc. So in the coming years 2006, many countries became inwardly, tried to hush up their freedom pasts, obscure environment deliberately tense. Then…

Hello everyone, i started this new topic because i belive this is the place to do so. I am 19 years old, and though I have a place to stay and a job right now. I am looking for what it is i truly want to do with myself. I ask this question here on scienceforums, cuz i think yahoo answers would have a lot of senseless answers from kids or someone stoned out of their mind. Let me tell you a little bit about my passions so you'll have a greater understanding of who I partially am, and what I want to do/be. To start, I love the ocean. I was raised in southern florida, I love the paradisey vibe that place gives off. I've been thinking about joing the coast guard lately, and h…

Indian education system as you might know is based on stages, primary education elementary. Then secondary education tenth board with covering most of principles of physics and mathematics. Then 12 th higher secondary a college styled syllabus for reaching medical and engineering education colleges. Then higher college studies of physics, mathematics etc for extremists. So my reasoning is that there is nothing wrong if someone wants to pursue further education as his likings. But the 12th higher studies education contains contents from einstein studies. So if more than 50% a year many indian pass out as rankers living in a developing nation. Then india must be a co…

Edited: added- and a list of my favorites; may bring a smile to some of you... It takes a thief Tightrope The avengers The saint 77 Sunset strip Surf side 6 Combat Man from UNCLE Kojak Mission impossible Three's company The untouchables Columbo Get Smart Naked city The fugitive
