Seen any good sculptures made from almonds lately? Note: no other nut-based sculptures may be discussed under threat of the ban-hammer!

I'm thinking about either renewing my subscription to the New Yorker or giving the Economist a try. I'd only really have time for 1 magazine. What do you all read, if any.

Hi, I'm very interested in Protein Design and would like to read some Papers by Brian Kuhlman, the guy is related to the rosetta@home project and the Foldit videogame. Check this link and see if you have a subscription for the paper THANKS! : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1074552112000798 as you can take from the address, you would need a subscription at sciencedirect (which sadly my university does not provide). thanks in advance!

Here I am again, at the gas pump, trying to figure out why the price just went up thirty cents a gallon in the last month. I'm unhappy about it, and I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Who knows why the price of gasoline skyrockets at any given time.? It seems that the slightest event sends the price of petroleum through the roof. It could be a natural or man made disaster, or a political happening. You would think that, since the first oil crisis of the early 1970s, our society would have been working on solutions to the volatile nature of the petroleum industry. The problem is, the energy industry makes large profits whether the situation in the world i…

Could a copy of the Curiosity Rover be sent to Saturn's moon Titan? Would this be far more difficult to do? I have read, some place, that once you get out of the Earth's gravity well you can go anywhere in the solar system with the same or close to the same amount of energy, time is the factor that changes. Would the Curiosity Rover survive on Titan or is Titan too cold? I know Venus is a hard nut to crack but is the cold of Titan a similar barrier?

Hi all, Hope I'm posting in the right place - feel free to re-direct me to a more appropriate location. One of my long-held ambitions is to see (in person) the launch of a good sized space rocket - say 500kg payload or more. If I was in the US I'm sure I would have already managed to achieve that - being in Australia, there's not too many nearby launches. If anyone has info or options about where I could travel, to see a launch, that would be much appreciated. I guess the ideal would be a location - or multiple nearby locations - that has multiple launches in a shortish space of time, so that a cancelled launch wouldn't be such a big deal. Thanks in a…

Can anyone point out what this is? It's been on my bedroom wall as long as I've lived in this house. Doubt it's that interesting, but I might be able to use it?

This is London Olympics are a big fiasco. Earlier olympics perhaps were much stricter, the london olympics seems lenient in rules and gameplay. The results seem 'instant' rather than testing endurance, the games are of skills and performances. The arena seems too small than usual. Like many games seem totally childish. Before i write about my own personal visions i would like to point out many flaws in this years london olympics. A) The 100meter seems is just 75 meter in actual length so many athletes are just casual jogging rather than putting real effort. B) In shot put event the weight is half than what is showcased, i.e. 4 kg in womens category is infact just 1.7kg…

Suppose you became dictator of the world and could decide what children in state-funded education (up to the age of 17 or 18) learn. You can teach whatever you want. What curriculum would you choose?

Just found out today that my company, that I have worked for for 24 years, is closing my facility in two months. "A tough business decision". Where is the loyality, the dedication, the intrinsic value? How does one transition from a team member, who has taken a thousand punches for his company, taken responsibility for a thousand problems, solved a thousand problems, sweated and worried and fretted over meeting deadlines, doing a good job and doing the right thing for his workmates, bosses, department, customers and company, for 24 years, to being a duplicate "skillset"? Me thinks they know not what they do. I will not mention the company. It's still my co…

A good acquaintence and I were golf partners at Ford for a few years. He was from India, also Sikh and a gentleman. He didn't drink, smoke or swear, I swear! A good honest hard working electrician who came to the job each day with a turbin wound around his head and his beard in a hair net. I partnered with him for about 4 years and never once was expected to do more than my share. I even went with him to his Temple once, explaining that I wanted to compare the difference between his religion and western theology. Oh yes! I've been in several churches of different denominations on occasion for the same reason. My question is, how can one person hate another person without …
