The idea of selling some science-related shirts has been floating around here off and on for a long time now. I'd like to do this, but I don't have the creativity that some of you have. What do you think would make good shirts? Personally, I like shirts that are clearly geeky, but in a retro-illustration style. Here's what I mean by "retro-illustration sytle." I also like a bit of wit or sarcasm, or play on words, or anything really. I saw a shirt yesterday that said, "What's so hard about rocket science?". It had some cheesy 70s illustration that was quite humorous. Anyhow, I know many of you are very creative . I don't know how many of you are good…

Was questioning Google on the possibility of permanently magnetizing a "ball bearing"? Since this question isn't new, I searched through four or five pages of answers and never come across anything substantive, but did see some gimmicks. Can it be done? Never tried it, but I don't think so. Yet, with five hundred miles of molten iron at the core of our planet and it's polarized, "How"?

Hi all im new to the forum and im in no way claiming to be all that knowledgeable about science, i do have a interest though and i thought i would share a college project i finished recently (a graphic design project - typography class) my brief was to design a booklet labelled 10 things about.... i chose science and the book in the series would be about our world. i based the booklet around the teachings of - in my opinion the great carl sagan from the big bang, the sun, evolution....all the way to the planet x theory. im posting it up here in hope you'll enjoy it and if you would like i'd be more than happy to post whoever's interested a digital co…

Well, the odds finally caught up with me and my family. We just got back from vacation early Saturday morning to discover we were robbed. They emptied my entire studio, every bit of it except for a couple of microphones still in the box that they apparently didn't realize were there. Turns out it happened the night we left. As we were enjoying the mountainous view of Colorado via Highway 160, our house was being invaded and my life's mission and purpose stolen. They got my precious Ibanez SC420 Classic electric guitar, a rare model that isn't manufactured anymore. I took immaculate care of it. God it's almost like losing a child. I've had this pit in my stoma…

Hello everybody. I am a rep for a supercomputer company and I don't trust what they are saying about the climate. I believe this is a natural cycle and I don't think they have the evidence. I think they are just trying to get money. I know how this works because I take that money. They need the money to get paid then they take the money and pay me. It's a scam and while I don't want to lose my money I think these scientists are not telling the truth.

With modern technology to safeguard privacy and protect against identity theft, there is no reason why we couldn’t put an end to illegal drug trafficking, whether it be international, interstate, or on school campuses. Why we haven’t seen this proposed before is beyond me. All we have to do is institute a worldwide cashless society by eliminating cash flow facilitated by paper bills or coin as the means for monetary transactions. Again, with modern technology it should be a snap! Secure servers are already available, and if all commerce was only facilitated by means of monetary transference through electronic personal debit or deposit transactions, there would be no …

The wish list of Robert Boyle was recently found outlining what he predicted science would achieve. http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2010/jun/03/robert-boyle-royal-society-wishlist Several of his predictions seem to be rather good; development of ures for infections, traveling underwater, hair dye! With that, what are peoples new wish lists that you predict will occur in the next 100 years or so. I'd like to see medicine that is personally taloired (i.e. not general for a certain disease), humans living on another planet/moon/asteroid, a clean form of energy to serve the whole world.

I found a nest of bumblebees wrapped in an old blanket on my deck today and less than 6" away was a nest of yellow jackets! In the same box! Talk about a double whammy! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumblebee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_jacket You would think they wouldn't tolerate each other in such close proximity! I know they didn't tolerate me finding them.

I've been in the program now for less than two weeks but enjoy it immensely. Today I unintentionally made three posting of the same question. I don't know how, but it happened. Is there some way of erasing a multiple, or even erasing all of it? The administrator was rather prevoked that I did it and promised me two weeks off without pay if I did it again. I can read readin' but I have a hard time with readin' writin'. Someone help!!

It appears from time to time. A poster named Atheistwar + something you will find in Speculations. This individual posts his ideas, and never involves into any discussion. He gets responses from other forum members, and of course all of them are surprised from the low level of his argumentation. The fact is that all people involved in these threads disagree with him. They shouldn't. Because I got the feeling this person is making a catalog of atheists.

I know, the topic is taboo. And it's probably perceptual to anyone above a third grade education, that the only person wanting to discuss the subject would be someone assimilating that third grade mentalityl. Daaaa!! Anyway, E.M.F. and Magnetism in practically any form above a lodestone can be changed to a new dynamic almost instantly. There are formula enough to fill a library, from the simplest application of D.C. theory, to the intricacies of a Cern Collider. Yet, other than the laws laid down by Sir Issac Newton, and a little mumbo-jumbo, gravity is an unquestionble entity. WHY?? Ubiquitous, yet inexplicable? What does it do other than keep you from flying off into s…

Does anybody know a good place to host a free forum? I've got 7 students to support in a little internship group, plus maybe up to half a dozen more added later. I set up a forum for them at freeforums.org, but it's abysmally slow, and I was hoping for something a little speedier. I know that's a bit much to ask when there's no money involved, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask around. I saw a bunch of free services listed in a google search but I was hoping to hear from someone who's used one that's really good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So my teenager is lamenting about life last night, pondering why we should live life and experience pain and misery when we could just die and be free from it. I shared the whole balance thing..."Without death, life is not precious. Without pain, you can't appreciate pleasure." that sort of thing. But then he returns with questioning the value of that appreciation. Why does it matter if it's not precious? Why is that a point of reason? If we lived forever, without a chance of dying, and without sadness and pain, wouldn't that be better for humans? I scrambled and clawed and managed little more than a punt downfield. It should be easy to counter, but I get th…

The success of any type of internet technology lies in certain basic characteristics like, • Ubiquitous • Open to everybody • Ease of use • Available at affordable cost When compared to other comparable technologies used by the business world, the internet now has a special role in regulating all business activities. However, the internet technology used in commodity trade • Should be flexible enough to handle a wide array of applications • Must address all other issues under consideration • It must have a global reach Literally speaking, no other technology is so widely put use at such a massive scale like the internet technologies. The advent of this te…

The new hadron collider at Geneva (Cern) is on the verge of bringing bits of matter together at speeds of about 99.999% that of light. When some of them do slam together, the heat generated is supposedly in the billions of degrees K. My question is: are we looking to find what matter was prior to the BB, or is it the instant following, when everything was a plasma?
