Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

How many of us cannot get our heads around the strong force? I think it is what is supposed to keep fused protons from parting. Well, about seven years ago a similar answer hit me before any realization of the related question: Charged rain drops repel each other more the closer they get until, bingo, once two of them touch they become as one. Sure, but they have become enclosed within a single membrane where the charge is distributed. The new skin has less area than the total of the previous two, but that is OK because the consequentially increased electron crowding represents a higher potential surrounding that given volume of water. It is just another step in the proce…

Spectral Red Shift Using red shift to extrapolate distances to other galaxies is probably the most accurate method on the books today. But not foolproof by any stretch. Looking along a particular line of radii we will see galaxies that have a red shift according to their distances from us. A galaxy left or right of that line by any margain will have a different wavelength unless it is exactly the same distance away from us as the one we were looking at. Viewing such a small segment of the universe as we do, and trying to make sense of it is mind boggling at best. And since I don't believe in a bent, flat stretched, cubicle or boxed in universe, let me give…

In another post I offered an analysis by Fred Hoyle indicating life by chance alone was astronomically poor. In response Skeptic suggested life by change alone could be improved by bringing in resources from a hypothetical infinite universe. Since this discussion was not the primary purpose of the original post I offer this thread to explore the idea further. Here is Skeptic's explanation. I see at least three issues with this analysis. First off it is not clear that an infinite universe is real or even possible. Even it it were possible and was real it is not clear that expansion would actually obscure any part of the universe from our vantage point e…

Patterns Art + Creation Everything is a pattern - nothing in existence isn't a pattern. A letter in the alphabet is a pattern: "A". Take a second to examine the letter before continuing to read. Moving on, a "Word" is a pattern made from even smaler patterns - for example "Donkey" is just six different letters/patterns. Continuing, a sentence is a pattern made from lots of words and letters - a story is a pattern made from lots of sentences. We seperate the sentences to make the patterns easier to read using 'paragraphs". The body is a pattern, as is DNA. The face is composed of 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 nostrils and 1 mouth. That's a pattern in itself, along with eve…

Time is a dimension like every other dimension. It is so commonly overlooked that it has caused us to come up with the "Big Bang Theory", and "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" to explain our Universe. Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. If you approach the speed of light, time for you moves incredibly slow. No one ever thinks in the reverse. How slow can someone go? Right now if you are on the equator sitting in your easy chair, you are actually moving approx. 1.3 million mph. If you add up the motion of the Earth as it spins, the Earth rotating around the Sun, the Sun rotating around the galaxy. What if an object or person ever left the galactic orb…

taken from my blog http://diligovos.blogspot.com/ Universe Defined First I'll explain what the above title means. When a human explains morality, he/she explains it by definition -- which leads to confusion onto what is morally correct. Personally I think morality is man-made and doesn't really explain what true Good/Evil is. To find the truth one must essentially "go back" to the beginning of "thought" so to speak - before human application; when we essentially thought without 'word', and relied more on instincts than knowledge. The "universe-defined" morality. Word-World As humans in this current day and age, we live in a word-world; an environment controlled by…

Please read the last two paragraphs first. Comments are appreciated. Many different shapes and sizes of UFO craft have been reported, and many alien beings of different appearance, color, stature, etc…have been reported. This suggests that some of them arrived here from other planets, perhaps only 10 light years away, but maybe some have traveled several hundred light years. Is it reasonable to think that their crafts travel faster than the speed of light? Even though some alien races may have survived beyond a deteriorated environment on their home planet and may be able to live in space continuously, I think they may still require pit stops to replenis…

I am not happy with current explanations of the Universe. We either have to accept unreasonable events, or unreasonable explanations. A Big Bang is reasonable, but not without explanation. The universe as we no it, is not lumpy. So, we explain it away, i.e. Inflation. The thing is I am not unhappy with the thought of inflation, but with the thought that sudden inflation is needed. We don’t know what existed before the Big Bang, but current black hole models say that matter as we accept it does not allow for a Big Bang. However, the Law of Energy Conservation says matter existed. If matter existed, gravity existed. Something caused preexisting matter to mass. There is …

If I were to cause a collision of two high-speed particles in glass sphere, and had a high-tech camera that could record or snap a shot of the sphere a split-second before it smashed into pieces, wouldn't I be able to predict exactly where the particles would end up? If not a collision then a explosion. If this is the case, then it would be the same with the Big Bang, if I was to go back in time and place a sphere over the point where it happened, I could then predict where the particles/matter would end up? So everything that is happening now was already predicted from point 1?

Source .a Christianity - "The Bible" Although the nature of the 'bible' may have been altered over the years, I'm going to attempt, whilst applying wisdom and logical assertions, to decode - and understand the bible, as it was understood during its origin/initial creation. It's rare to hear of somone who attempted to understand word for word what the religion symbolized; a supernatural monotheistic figure seems to be the most popular way to view the text, however it may be the incorrect view-point. Putting 'Occams Razor' to the bible in the present day is almost useless, as the book is highly ridiculed by most scientific figures/media, especially within schools/colleges…

How can God exist without time? Impossible, a thought or movement requires time - an action requires time. Therefore any God is time, as to create or be created the essense of time is required. We exist between time, never able to reach the future, never able to reach the past. Example: [] = time. [ us ] not: us [ ] not: [ ] us We are always in the present. We move and age, time doesn't. The earth spins and rotates, time doesn't. Everything equates to 0. Only 1 type of singularity exists, black holes. The black hole makes everything tick. Time is God, and time created the universe. Discuss.

What if the universe was created by a super-massive black hole and super-massive white hole. Both gave each other proportionate attraction - a binding force alike magnets. The two collide and due to each others 'field' of attraction, the life-force produced could only be perfect - there is no way that anything can go against the rules if the only factors are two attractions with specific structures, to simply, attract. - [a.] darkmatter/gravity gravity/antimatter (I'll explain this further in, Source a). Both attractions collide and project outwards at speeds in their 'field of attraction'. What if that initial love occurred through the -attractive-will- of the initial su…

Electronic voice phenomena are sounds which appear to be human voices, sometimes thought to be those of dead people known to the listeners, which can be heard on any sort of sound recording device. If a tape recorder is run where there are no sounds or voices, voices can sometimes be heard when the blank tape is played back. Similar voices have been reported from radios tuned to a frequency on which nothing is being broadcast or from televisions turned to an empty channel. These apparent voices have been heard from sound recording devices which were allowed to record and play back in a room within a Faraday cage, so the possibility of stray transmissions from other sig…

  19. The purpose of this tread is to provide an insight into the origins of some of our knowledge of astronomy. The method I've chosen to do that is to quote actual passages from some very ancient Texts so readers can see how these subjects were discussed and taught in ancient times. ABOUT ME I graduated with an engineering degree then into the Apollo moon project and nights teaching college physics. The first week of class I announced that I'd be teaching some elements of Astronomy throughout the semester. But at that point I decided to teach the history of some of our knowledge of Astronomy instead, and that I'd relate it to parts of the Apollo program. Our coll…

First of all, sorry for my bad English. Regarding the polemics about new measured proton's radius, I am informing you that I calculated it theoretically several years ago, in my yet unpublished book. That new measured value of proton's radius, mentioned in Nature 466, is 0,8768 fm which coincides with the result I have theoretically calculated in my book: 0,8876 fm. I used it for calculation of gravitational constant, with formula in the attachment I also calculated gravitational energy of proton. The rest of the book demonstrates the existence of the ether, as a mechanical fluid which fills the universe. Ether presents the basic factor of all the phenome…

I decided that I had best put this in speculation rather than annoy people in the quantum theory section. Basically, I am a science fiction writer and in one of my novels there is a society of AI's that exist throughout the universe in virtual colonies on a series of thousands of asteroids. By virtual colonies I mean that they only exist as digitally encoded minds, although they have access to the sensory equipment of each asteroid to observe the outside world and, if necessary, affect it. Being a huge fan of bandwagons, I'm jumping on the one labelled quantum entanglement as a means for them to be connected to each other. I have the usual limited understanding, but m…

Could we truly have a direct link back to the beginning of time? I kind of understand it. What it's trying to say is that we are always kept together by one thing.

  23. Abstract The aim is to show how the 2-dimensional incompressible fractions of composite fermions theory can be found in 3-dimensional atomic structure and the result used to show the cause of the nature of the elements with supporting comments on electronegativity, electron filling order, and van der Waal’s radii. Introduction Two problems with current understanding are: 1) The problem of transferring two dimensional Composite Fermions theory into the three dimensional frame of the real world. Jainendra K. Jain[1] found that: ‘comparing Composite Fermions[1] theory with real life experiments also necessitates an inclusion of the effects of nonzero thickness of…

Several years ago I proposed that for elementary particles: mass x radius = linear force constant A recent revision proposed that: mass x radius = gravitational constant/2 More recently the proton radius was the subject of a new experiment that led to this revision it includes the proton, neutron, and fine structure constant. Col. A lists the particles. Col. B is the mass values given by Codata. Col. C gives the value of the elementary particle radii using the R^QMC equation given by Malcolm H Mac Gregor. Col. D shows the single and three particle linear force constants. (mass x RQMG) Col. E Gives the radii found when the linear force constant i…
