Hi, I am reading a tutorial which translates the following sentence into logic: The translation is: Sunny_days => garden_weddings The "implies" formula is given by: P => Q is given by: ~P V Q I can't understand this translation. According to the formula we should have: not sunny_days V garden_wedding which can be stated in English as: On sunny days weddings are held in the garden However the tutorial translates it into: "Either not sunny days weddings are held in the garden" I can't understand this, why we have 'not" before sunny_days. Original sentence does not use 'not' with sunny_days. I have attach…

I was asked to make an algorithm for TSP in determinstic polynomial time. input = list of cities and their distances of length n. Each city is seperated by a space e.g. "distance, distance, distance distance, distance, distance distance, distance, distance" k = number of cities = found by reading k distances. we populate strings t[] of length k on k! tapes containing all instaces of k! 0000,0001 etc by reading string of length n; each t[] is replaced by string index; 0214 = cities[0][0] cities[1][2] cities[2][1] cities[3][4]. replace all t[] with their sum which is equivalent to the distances between the cities. find the minimum of t[]; findi…

Hello, for some reason, all but a couple of my system tray icons have disappeared- including the volume control. They are not simply hidden- they are completely gone. The programs still load when I start windows, but the icons just do not show up in the tray. I have done both spyware and virus scans and come up clean. The icons return if I log off and then log back on. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you.

I guess I will be asking java some Java questions, trivial ones, these few days... so in order to be consistent, I will post all my trivial Java questions here... starting with the first one 1) acocrding to this image Why doesn't the yield method put the thread into not runnable? clearly, the thread stops for a while and allows other threads to come in and execute.....

I want to preface this by saying that this is no longer a current problem I'm experiencing, it's just something I'm curious about. OK, so a few years ago, after I was lying in bed at 3 or 4 A.M. the computer turned on by itself. I found it weird, but I just got up, turned it off and got back to sleep. When I woke up, I found it turned on. After the first few days, I realized the computer would turn on several times during the day when there was thunder and lighting outside. I realize there is a connection between a thunderstorm and electricity, but I was still stumped as to how this was happening. The more time went on, I realized that it would turn on whenever i…

Ruby is the most programmer-friendly language I know of, with a syntax that tries to read like English as much as possible. It has all the features you'd expect of a modern language (strong typing, garbage collection, object orientation) with some nice power features that only language zealots like me seem to care about. If you're interested in learning Ruby you can do it straight from your web browser without installing or configuring any software. Helpful lessons are built straight in, and you can do them all from the web (neato!) http://tryruby.hobix.com/ The guy who made this site has some fun downloadable software aimed at younger students designed to t…

Ok, here's the scenario. I get this email that has a virus on it. I don't open it up, though, but now I'm trying to figure out whether my friend did it or not. Here are some of the key points. 1) The sender has her name on it, and so does the email address. 2) I never received any emails from her until 3 weeks ago, one day after I sent her something. In other words, she didn't know my email prior to my sending something to her. 3) The first virus email had a list of all her friends' emails, although the next two didn't. The first point makes it really suspicious. I can't imagine somebody without access to her email doing it.

I want to make a volume control that uses input from my usb keypad only. I cannot find out how to access the windows volume through VB, much less the bass level etc. Second... any way to isolate the input from the keypad which, as it is, exactly emulates the keyboard keypad? If not, w/o actually writing new drivers for it, oh well... Reading the joystick input would be nifty too. I've just been searching the net for hours now and cannot find a blooming simple volume control I can disect - they have so many useless features I can't understand.

Hey, I'm a 19 year old young man about to start university. I'm going to be studying Computer Information Systems. I'm looking to get involved with Cyber Security. I'd like to know what type of laptop I'd really need. I don't need to play video games. Any answers help! I don't want to waste my money on some thing that's going to break down and give me problems. I'm not sure how powerful my processor should be. Or how much RAM I should have. Any help's great! I'm looking currently at an ASUS Zenbook Pro UX501VW. Is that a good pick? Should I downgrade? Upgrade?

Hello. I am studying turing machines. I know that a turing machine can read/write a symbol, move to left to right, and enter into a serie of states. But i don't know how the transition function works. I don't know how the turing machine can reference values when it only performs sequentialy operations. Please, give me an example explaining the addition of two binary numbers using it. Explain me also more about states. Thanks.

Can anyone design a turning machine which does the multiplication of integer n and m? The input tape starts with a string n+1 1s. This string represents integer n. After this string, there is a blank symbol B. After blank symbol, there is the other string which are m+1 1s. This string represents integer m. After computation, the turning machine should halt with n*m+1 1s on the tape. The result string represents the product of integer n and m. Of course, the tape alphabets are 0, 1 and B. For example, if I want to to the multiplcation of integer 2 and 3. The input tape should have string 111B1111. After computation, the turing machine should halt with the string 11111…

Hi everyone. I'm new to these forums and just thought I'd put this on the boards. I've recently become a big fan of the artificial intelligences and I've wanted to develop a program that could mimic human intelligence as the Turing test was designed for. The Turing test had an observer, who would have a conversation (like in MSN chat) with a human and a machine but didn't know which was which. The machine has to behave human and use language in the same way. I don't think any machine has successfully fooled the observer completely though. I can imagine it being hard enough just to create a program that can form proper sentences! Let alone have its own opinions about t…

The ZoneAlarm firewall keeps a log file at C:/Windows/Internet Logs/tvDebug.log and this file becomes larger every day. Whenever the log file reaches 20 megabytes, it is placed into a zip folder and a new log file is created. Many people have asked what exactly is being logged, but all the creators of ZoneAlarm will say is that they are debug files. Whenever anyone e-mails the ZoneAlarm technical support, they ask that you attach all of the tvDebug files to your e-mail. I would like to know what exactly is in these files. When I open the file in Notepad, all I see is this: If I printed an entire tvDebug file in text format, it would print thousands of pag…

me and my roommate are trying to play WC3 custom games on battle.net. I can host games, and people can join them. Port forwarding is set up for that. Henri can also host games, and people can join them. but sometimes neither of us can join a game that the other is hosting. We have made it work in the past, but cant figure out any pattern as to how. we have played a game, it ended, and then we go to start another game and it wont let one of us join. No changes made to our settings in between. I am at a loss, and so I turn to SFN for guidance. I can provide details of the portforwarding i have set up if that would help.

One question is whether I can use a bot program (data mining) to bypass the whole entering of letters and numbers process that some websites use to make sure that the user is human. I know it's made to prevent that type of activity, but my company really needs to access information that, at this point, only a human can access. We need to use our time efficiently, and at this point our employees are taking anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes just to check two webpages. We're trying to access 5-10 webpages within 30 seconds and some of them require that the user identify the letters and numbers in the image. The other question is this. When you get to a webpage and you w…
