What do think what kind of psychological influence to people it would be to see huge disk of celestial body in the sky. For example 20 degrees. Our Sun's and Moon's apparent size is less than 1 degree. Astronomically this situation is possible if one would live on the moon of a giant planet. If some people wouldn't dare to be outdoors when this disk would be in the sky, what was the name of this phobia.

My question is simple. What causes Ultradian Rythms? And what exactly is Ultradian rythms. I'm only sure that it is a period of time whereby you stare into blank space. And your thoughts seems to cease. I think.

Has anybody ever researched the true damage done by suicidal people compared to the expectations of these individuals. I expect there is not a lot of argument for murder/suicides, but people who deprive us of there presence when they care so much are only hurting the society. Maybe if there was a logical presentation that showed it was such a waste, many might change their minds. Is there any kind of coordinated effort to approach the problem as a whole. Just aman

a while back, my girlfriend went through a phase and took some psychology courses. she thought that she wanted to get a degree in psychology but ultimately failed all of her classes. upon learning this, my first thought was how in the hell do you fail psycology? there are no wrong answers. i'm no fan of psycology but during her phase, she mentioned that her class was covering hypnotic regression. i had heard of hypnotic regression before but never really gave it much though. but the other day, i was thinking of some practical appications for it and i was astounded. imagine honing the ability to regress to any point in your life and be able to visually see events transpiri…

My first draft of this included a bunch of babbling crap, i'll just cut to the point though. I'm failing calculus, i want to switch out this term so the F doesn't count against my GPA, i could enter home release in replace, non credit obviosly because its past midterm so i cant start in a different class. My teacher has the freedom to decide whether my current failing (which i'd have to pointlessly work my butt off to get to even pass) follows me anyway. There is no good reason for her to not let me off. I've talked to her, she admitted its her choice, but says its department policy (that they cant excuse a grade) and that she HAS to support the department. My bab…

Why is it that people can not understand something for a long time and then one day the penny drops and it all becomes perfectly clear, i have experienced this many times.I just cant fathom how one minute something is a blur and the next minute its not, does it have something to do with the brain firing more synapses or something.Ime not talking about something u learn slowly either i mean a concept or abstract thinking.

I know there is a link between schizophrenia and the olfactory senses, with sufferers having a distinct inability to identify smells etc. That's ok, I can find evidence of that. But I remember being in a hospital and the schizophrenia patients had a similar, unique, odor about them. I remember being informed that the patients produced the smell, and it was related to the condition. Is this true, or is it actually false? Please no comedy 'two voice' answers. It will just make me bitter, and the vitreous bile will flow forth form my heart and felicit a unusually cruel statement about your personal habits, personality and contribution to the human species. Probably…

Today my biology teacher said that psychic connections can be explained by one brain picking up on the electrical and magnetic fields of another (hence seeing their thoughts). It occurs naturally with people you know well, such as husband and wife, family, close friends, that you will say something you are thinking and that person will say they were just thinking the exact thing. I have had this happen to me before, and the line of thought shared is often not an invevitable addititon on communication currently taking place. This makes sense to me, but i was not aware that the electrical fields of the brain were powerful enough to be comprehensively detected and commun…

I fiance has a 3 year old daughter who crys every morning before she has to go to her fathers house. I also was raised in a situation where my parents were divorced and i never wanted to go to my fathers because his house was not any fun and all my friends were at my mothers house. My fiance is flipping out because she thinks that her daughter crying every morning before going to daddys is a sign of abuse. But she has no physical markings on her and when we pick her up from her fathers house she is as happy as can be. She is a very intelligent 3 year old and we have tried asking her why she does not like going to her fathers house. My fiances Aunt has sugeste…

Whose seen the movie based on the work of Oliver Sacks? Really neat stuff, i know their problem (something to do with encephilitis and a form of parkinsons) is different from other ones with similar appearance (such as Catatonia), but couldn't the same or some type of drug awaken these patients as well? What is Catatonia caused by? Its a a psychological sickness, nothing physically wrong usually right? Well yeah the brain is a physical organ, but which of its functions cant be altered by certain chemicals? My only guess why a drug wouldn't work is if it would kill them for some reason because they don't know how to activate it precisely or something. Another question …

Hi, I told you not to click on it. Can anyone explain why we are all so curious about something when we are told not to do it? - Do we not trust anyone ? (If you would trust me not to click on it you wouldn't be reading this) - Women seem to be more curious than man, right? why? - Do we think there is something very interesting hidden there when you are forbidden. It is not logical for a lifeform that wants to survive to be attracted to danger. I thought about this when I saw the 'why do people take drugs' thread.

I`m sure most have heard of Hypochondriacs that think themselves into all sorts of illness and then one day they eventualy get what they fear. Or certain tribal people that can literaly WILL themselves to death! and on the flip side, certain Cancer patients that use imagery and put a potentialy fatal cancer into remmision! Well... we`ve often heard of the negative sides how folks can beleive themselves into almost anything, and it will physicaly manifest itself. I`m more interested in the otherway round, COULD the same ideas be used to Live longer, stay healthier, enhance imunity to the point of killing a Flu virus within hours, stay younger looking etc... there`s …

Forgive me if I don't use the proper clinical terms here....Scenario: Someone suffers a traumatic event as a child. The person's mind has suppressed the event. There is an underlying and subconscious anger in that person, stemming from the event, but which can't be expressed in a manner related to the event because the event is being suppressed. What techniques could said person use to associate their anger with the event in order to express and expel the anger?

Seeing as how next wednesday is "National Spank-out Day", I thought it'd be interesting to hear your opinions on spanking children. Yea, I'm stretching it putting it here in "psychology", but I wanted it to be on the active topics list, and it does have to do with behavior enforcement

It seems the internet has bred a lot of interesting phenomena that future psychologists will have fun analyzing. The Star Wars Kid phenomena lately is really blowing itself all out of proportion and here is something else that might be new to some of you. I stumbled on it and thought it very creatively played. Possibly the best dumb blonde joke in the world. [http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14756] Is this some kind of psychological creative art that shows some of us are still growing? I thought it was creative. Just aman

From Guardian Interesting, but how credible? A notion that has influenced esoteric thought for centuries now forms the basis of a continuing, mind-boggling parapsychology experiment. Could our thoughts and intentions - before they become actions - alter the world? During an EEG (electroencephalogram), electrodes detect electrical signals transmitted between brain cells and record patterns of activity. This is not a measure of the mind itself, but of the electrical processes that somehow generate consciousness. Now, imagine the Earth as a brain; humans - perhaps all life - as brain cells; and a network of Random Event Generators (REGs, like high-speed, elec…

Before I registered here, Zeo came and asked me to put this here, because he would never return..he also asked me to register...but that's another story. personally, I think he was being a bit over critical about the whole deal...well...I guess you can see for yourself: I always knew Yami had issues with the whole racism deal...but when Iread this....boy. Anyway...looking for thoughts.

I am involved in a bit of a discussion with someone about the corpus callosum, and the effects of severing it (commissurotomy). The thing is I don't really know much about it, does anyone know of any good articles or studies that I can find. I have looked around on the internet a bit, but I can't easily find anything of interest or any detailed studies on psychological effects. the main focus of the discussion is if the two brains become two quasi-seperate people or not.
