Is anyone else getting an increased level of "checking that you are human" verifications?

I get this every other time I go to the site and it is a lengthy process.

Once i am "in" it is fine but if I leave the session for a while I may have to go through it again.

No. But I do stay logged in (until I clear cookies, etc). Do you use a VPN?

No I don"t use a VPN (I think that is an anonymous IP?)

I never log out (sometimes different sites log me out after a while but I don't really pay much attention to that)

I think it is just this site that keeps verifying that I am human ,although it does sometimes happen elsewhere ( on google itself ,actually it might be quite frequent)

I wonder if might be down to this phone being quite old (and a bit wonky) although,as I said it isn't happening on other forums I visit.

Invision uses Cloudflare as their CDN, and they're known for frequently doing this. It seems to be an issue for certain browsers, operating systems, or ISPs that Cloudflare thinks are suspicious or that match the profile of bots they try to block.

Are you using your phone's standard browser or something else?

Yes ,this is Samsung Internet.

(btw this is the third time in a row that I thought I had posted a reply only to see a little later that I had not.

I willl keep an eye out in case there is some glitch or it is just my own carelessness or the poor performance of my phone)

I got a lot of those when clicking "scienceforums.net/contact/" trying to fill out the form, but so far not when logging on or when posting. I used relay service "iCloud Private Relay", standard Safari browser.

If any of you get notification emails from SFN, can you let me know if you've received any in the past 6 hours or so, or receive any soon?

I note that this was som days back but in case it helps: I used the contact form available at the bottom of the page on Friday. The forum tried to send an email verification, but I never received an email so I could not use the form.

("contact us" from the password reset / account creation area seems to work differently as @MSC pointed out, and that helped me.)

Something that disturbs me: if I look at 'unread' content, and I click on the 'time link' left below, I get the first page of the thread, not the latest postings.

Together with the slow rendering of Latex on my tablet it takes pretty much longer before I get to the last page of a thread.

Another small quirk: when I want to mark all posts as 'read', I get this:

You can adjust this in your settings: https://scienceforums.net/settings/links/

Under "Content Preferences", you can choose whether links in unread content take you to the beginning, end, or to the unread part.

Yeah, I think this is the same bug that's affecting quotes and some other things -- the language file the JavaScript code uses to fill in English text is not loading, so everything fills in blank. Working with Invision support now to figure that out.

It [LaTex] was fixed but now it's gone.

LaTex requires me to hit the Refresh button in order for it to render.

[math]r = \sqrt {\frac{{78.5}}{\pi }} \simeq \sqrt {\frac{{78.5}}{{\sqrt {10} }}} = \sqrt {\frac{{7.85*10}}{{\sqrt {10} }}} = \sqrt {7.85*\sqrt {10} } = 4.98[/math]

Yeah, we're getting there +1

For some reason, your LaTex is rendering for me immediately without hitting Refresh, but other LaTex I've looked at still requires Refresh.

I'm not sure what changed, but you should see that quote boxes are working again. The JavaScript file that wasn't loading now loads correctly, despite nothing obvious changing.

For LaTeX, we're using a very old version of MathJax. At some point I'll experiment with switching to the latest version and then see why it might sometimes not work. I wonder if it works when content is loaded fresh, but when it's loaded dynamically (like when you go to the next page of a thread) it's not re-run to convert all the math code.

Also, there was a problem with our email sending setup that Invision has now fixed for us. You should receive email notifications and password resets correctly now.

I noticed the following, on screenshots I took:

nothing then minus sign then disappear from time to time... what is it?

I've noticed that when someone has already upvoted or downvoted a post, that I no longer have the option to also upvote/downvote that post. The up and down arrows scurry away when I try to place my cursor on them.

I can’t recreate this (but it could be from my moderator powers)

I’ve noticed on my iPad that the arrows disappear if I touch the screen, e.g. to scroll

It appears that one can "Like" by clicking the heart but not "Downvote" if someone has already upvoted or downvoted a post.

Same. If I hover over the heart, the up and down vote options appear. The moment I attempt to bring my pointer over to them, they disappear

Same on Safari, apple laptop.
Strange behaviour: I need to drag the heart icon, drop it onto the up or down button, then click the button. (see attached animation)

No, not even once weirdly.

Looks like bad design: the counter showing the number of upvotes gets in the way. But if you click on the heart symbol directly, you'll upvote the post, even if you can't reach the arrow. So this mainly stops you from downvoting, and we can call that a feature to encourage positivity.

The upvote and the heart have never felt equivalent though

I’m tired and potentially missing it, but did the Mark All Topics as Read option disappear?

@iNow on my computer and phone browser (both Safari) I click my avatar picture close to the top right corner of the forum, and the Mark all read is in the menu that opens:
