  1. Did you choose to post this? 😉
  2. No you haven't... Please discribe the scenario, where the perp is not caught in the act, but you can be 100% certain of the perps guilt without a trial. I bet you can't... I don't think you understand what the word obtuse means; please explain how that sentence is a result of "obtuseness"??? And I don't think you understand what a strawman argument is. It's not, as I explained 'in that other thread' "If you catch the fecker in the act, feel free to kill in order to stop the fecker; and as @Peterkin suggested torture is rendered moot, if you have both the perp and the victim safe, therefore any pain/torture inflicted after the fact, can only be revenge; even if the fecker deserves a good kicking... Like I said, "some might be open to new idea's".
  3. Maybe you're my wonderwall???
  4. Indeed, it depends on how badly you want revenge...
  5. Really? Please elaborate. Stop making excuses to torture someone you don't like. How can it be morally correct, if it's wrong? Well, you certainly imply it; I assume you mean, the only philosophy that work's is your own... 😇 Indeed... "The older I grow, the more I distrust the familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom.” - Mencken Without a trial you're down to common sense; you've been a member here long enough to know how unreliable common sense is... 😉🙏 I've given up trying to influence you, but there's plenty of people who read what's written on this site; some of whom are open too a different way of thinking...

for whom the the bell tolls
  7. I can forgive myself either way, but it's a lot easier if I don't dam/age myself... 😉
  8. This is not proof that philosophy never work's. Indeed +1 I don't want to be a gadfly, I want to be a teacher...
  9. Sex might be mechanical to you, but I prefer the illusion of making love... 😉

That about sums it up. +1
  11. That's exactly what we're talking about, if you condemn a man without trial. And given the very specific scenarios, there wouldn't be time for a trial until after the, potentially fatal, torture. It's not evidence of anything, because it hasn't happened... Am I your bias? Is that why you don't read my post's properly? Because whatever I say, you know better... Don't hold your breath. Indeed +1 No-one knows how they'll react to a situation they haven't encountered before; we can't know, if we're wired for flight or fight, before the fright.
  12. The most believable god, is the one that teaches you to not pick your nose in a pandemic...
  13. How do you know it isn't?
  14. Indeed, karma is unique to you. Do bad things and karma bites your hand, do good things and karma lick's your hand and wag's its tail... 🙏
  15. Is that a sacrifice or a consequence?
  16. What sacrifice? Karma doesn't require a sacrifice... 😉
  17. That doesn't seem very Buddhist to me, he thaught about thing's... 😉 Buddha would have said, the accuser will be punished by karma... The thing is - is it ever right, is different question to the core of the premise; which is, is it right now (with what we know)?
  18. Different thread and a different memory of what was written there. Let's discuss it there. We left jedwood justice a long time ago; besides, up till now there has never been a scenario, as per your justifications, therefore there is zero evidence that it ever could work.
  19. The bottom line is, Kirk is a terrible captain...
  20. That's like asking, if I kill them with enough respect am I allowed to smile... 🖖
  21. We can only play the hand we're dealt; how is that irrelevant to the OP?
  22. Which part of this sentence "sure, if we live forever we'll probably encounter such an unlikely scenario, and you'll be right." is tripping you up? It's a different question: 1. There is absolutely no doubt who the perp is. 2. They ignore all the warnings and cannot be placated. 3. We have no choice but to stop them. 4. And putting an end to their obvious distress, might even be a kindness. OTOH 1. There is always a doubt, when the perp is witnessed by a third party. 2. They might be ignorant of the crime and any amount of persuasion, won't change that fact. 3. Adding to their distress, can never be a kindness...
  23. Another great post +1 I'll just add, the excuse given to justify torture, is a time limit and no other choice; @beeceethink probability over possibilities. If most victim's do not provide the information requested; the chances that you catch the right guy at the right time and get the right information, in time, is vanishingly small; sure, if we live forever we'll probably encounter such an unlikely scenario, and you'll be right...
  24. LOL +1, but maybe he's got a big dick???
  25. There is no land of the free, it's the home of the entitled...
