I can and have learned from giant's (that doesn't make them my teacher/priest), some of them are members of our forum, but I use my eyes to see beyond them. What makes you so sure that we can detect a few billion microbe's on a planet 5 light year's away? Indeed, for instance: do you travel in space??? Me. I think peace is worth fighting for... Being a passivist wasn't an easy option for my grandfather, either... How many war's do we have to see fail, before we consider another option? Sure Putin might welcome this initially, but as Gandhi and Mandela have shown, there's few things more powerful than mutually assured peace.

Science is about honest unbiased inquiry and then accepting the results of that inquiry, despite your expectation. Your method seems the reverse of that; it will probably yield the results I expect, therefore the possibility that I'm wrong is probably wrong; I wonder what they call that particular fallacy... What if the human tool is a virus best restricted to earth, and it's escape doomed the rest of the life out there; the only evidence we have is, we're trying our best to eliminate life not expand it. What's the point of doing such an experiment, if we'll never know the answer, as to whether it's a good or a bad idea?

Who else are we? When I become aware that I'm dreaming, I get up too alsorts of naughty thing's that would get me a prison sentence in reality; same me with a different awareness.

You appear rather confused. We do experiments because we need to gain knowledge on the workings of a particular area of science. A scientific experiment is designed to test an hypothesis. In essence, a scientific experiment involves a series of steps to either validate or reject an hypothesis. They are done everyday. That is what science is all about. Faith (as per religious faith) in reality (as you have shown) rejects scientific evidence and facts. I hope that also helps. I'm sorry, but I don't share your faith in such a project. Since Earth does have a use by date, and is so far the only planet we know of with life, I see such a project as forward thinking, and the implementation of science at its best. You don't seem to understand how big a billion is, and what a small percentage it is, of our* "use by date". * by which I mean humanity.

I suppose I mean language is more than just word's, it's cultural and the meaning is contextual; commit a thought to paper and it's trapped in the moment you wrote it, but if you commit a thought to a friend/peer they are not only more likely to understand the meaning, but that thought is free to be refined in a rich language that can deliver bad news with a smile.

If you'll never see the results, then it'll never yield results; you'll never know if the experiment worked or not science. Insisting anything based on assuming it'll work is nothing more than faith. 😇
