  2. Alright, so I've been experimenting with melatonin and alcohol. I've recently decided to do something interesting. I decided to mix the two. What I did was I bought a generic brand of melatonin tablets from a health food store: GNC Melatonin 1 Dietary Supplement 1 mg per tablet About 5 tablets consumed before rest. Now, some people say that melatonin has a time-release pattern. Do you know what else does? Alcohol. I've combined this with alcohol: Jim Bean (generic 750 mL bottle) About 7 shots consumed before rest. Matter of fact, that's one of the reasons alcohol sucks when attempting to use it as a sleep-aid. It acts as a form of time-release …

Hey guys! I'm going to make a potato canon and need a spark generator to ignite the fumes. I was thinking about a 9v battery because of its power and size. What I want it to do is basically be able to make a spark over a gap every 2 or 3 minutes. I have no electrical experience so please be specific. I can solder though.

I need help with an experiment. My science experiment topic is on plants and I need help with a good question that will last over a period of eleven weeks. I need a good question by Monday and hope for a medium difficulty experiment so it is easy but not too easy for my strict science teacher.

I am tryingto set up a 6th grade science experiment on biochar. We will be growing tomatoes organically and tomatoes using biochar (ashes fro campfire or a fireplace mixed with soil. how much biochar to soil ratio? How would be the best way to set up this experiment? Help!! Any ideas?? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated...also to measure the results? should we measure to growth and production of the plants?

For an experiment i am trying to test if the amount of oxygen affects the growth of a tarantula. and i was wondering a 2 things... 1) How could I measure the amount of oxygen in the container. I am making a airtight container so ensuring contamination won't be a problem 2) How could i supply the higher level of oxygen in the tank, and keeping it at that level. I dont have that much so good but not costly ways would be best. Thanks

Hi, I'm a student at Universiteit van Amsterdam, and for a final project for a cognitive science class me and some other students have devised an online survey. We'd greatly appreciate it if you could help us out in collecting data! Here is the URL of the questionnaire: http://www.w-d.org/questionnaire/ Cheers, ~xcthulhu Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedBump. I know I'm new to this forum, but I'd greatly appreciate any participation and feedback! Thanks! ~XCT

If this isn't the best sub-forum for this question let me know Let's say you have a ferrite toroid (donut) ring and I wanted to induce a continuous circular current in that toroid. What is the simplest coil configuration to make this happen. I know that a spinning permanent magnet in the center of the toroid would accomplish this, but I find that a bit cumbersome. So I would like to find a coiled wire alternative. Hopefully it will be of simple geometry. Thanx

Hi everyone, new to this forum =) I have a science assignment where i have to conduct an experiment. It has to be one of the ones where there's a control group and a group you test on. Something like the typical "lets grow some beans in water and some beans in soil and see which one grows faster". I want to do something fun and interesting though, nothing that cliche =D Has anyone got any suggestions? i don't want to spend too much money and i've for a reasonably amount of time. Ive had a look around the posts and thought about memory test type stuff like whether doing memory exercises makes people remember better and whether you remember things better ea…

  15. I have made some KBrO3 from KBr and this synth was quite succesful. I used this for my oscillating reaction experiment, and also for some other energetic materials experiments. The synth is described here: http://woelen.scheikunde.net/science/chem/exps/KBrO3_synth/index.html Have fun, but be careful. KBrO3 is a possible human carcinogen. It also can react very energetically with some reductors.

I'm interested in performing this experiment. How much time and money would I need to invest in this? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the original experiment. What equipment did Thomas Young originally use? Any resources on this would be appreciated. Cheers s-s Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedAs part of this I will most likely build a Helium-neon laser... I found one extensive website. The info is a little overwhelming though. http://www.repairfaq.org/ The HeNe construction is more for amusement purposes than an actual inability to come into the possession of a laser of this type. They are relatively inexpensive and eas…

Okay so last night I was working on a simple voltaic pile or battery. I thought it would be neat to build it and see how much I could increase the voltage. It did not work to well.. First off my voltmeter is not with me currently but after this weekend I will have one, so if it was producing DC voltage, I was not aware of it. My measurement apparatus was a simple 2v lightbulb with two leads, I tested it and it works with a regular batter. The glow with the energizer battery was very dim, but that makes sense because the battery was only 1.5v. Anyways, I had all the required supplies for building a voltaic battery, I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong.…

Years ago I managed to make rather pure KClO3 (http://KClO3.velp.info) but I read on several sites on the internet that perchlorate is more stable and thus safer, but harder to make. See e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KClO4 . Does anyone have experience ?

Ok most people no that light travels at around 186.000 miles per second, and WOW thats some serious SPEED, and Here is somthing that i would love to see and i think is maybee? possible, so let me try to explain in my own words what id love to see. By using a high powered hand held green laser preferably 400 mw and a high speed camera then turning the laser on and playing back the high speed recording of turning the laser on would it be possible to see the laser beam acctually moving, so there light has bin slowed down. Sorry for my bad english but i hope you understand me, this is just sumthing i wana see so it is a proof that light travels, evan though i no light…

I am thinking of buying one or the other but i haven't decided yet. I've never had much experience with either so i was wondering if someone could tell me how much use i could get out of a microscope? A telescope is fairly self explanitory and astronomy does interest me, and apart from looking at hair and skin cells i'm not sure how much use i would get out of a microscope, so is there much more i could use it for in terms of learning for myself and seeing some crazy things?

I mixed some baby powder (2 tsp) and some water (1 oz) together and microwaved it just to see what would happen and it came out chunky and gelatinous. Did I make some crude form of gelatin or was it something else? The baby powder says it is made up of corn starch, tricalcium phosphate, and some added lavender/chamomile fragrance stuff. I think I just made some really nasty gelatin, but I'm not sure. (sorry about the units, but I'm working with kitchen utensils and am too lazy to convert them. )

Hi all, I recently shot a video based on an experiment using maizena, water and a sub woofer. Most of you probably know what will happen, but being an artist I tried to film it in such a way so that it looks very abstract, with lots of colours etc. so it really looks like all these little monsters take shape and start to dance to the tune. Let me know what you guys think!
