  1. Polio and rotoviruses use polymerase in their transcription process. You need to stop the viruses from using the transcription enzymes by stopping transcription before the binding you need to bind to the single helix amino acids before the polymerase does You need a technique to do this which won't destroy the enzymes Then the cell will decompose as it is only half formed The transcription enzymes will be left in the solution and easily extractable by centrifuge The more transcription about to take place, interrupted the higher the yield of polymerase then you need a technique to synthesis telomerase from the polymerase good luck …

  2. Hi, I'm new here and just looking for a wee bit of advice. I am currently planning an investigation on the effectiveness of antibacterial hand washes and not decided on how to go about it. I can either have people wash their hands and then place their fingertips on an agar plate and count colonies (if any), make bore holes in the agar and drop some of the hand wash in and then measure the clear zone or I can soak assay discs in the hand wash and place it on to an agar plate that has a culture of bacteria. What do you think would be the best? Thank you

  3. I really appreciate any help I can get - experienced answers only please! OK here is the deal - my lab professor mixed two bacteria in a broth tube, one is gram negative, one is gram positive. Before running tests on the two separate bacteria, I need to isolate them into an "Uknown A" and a "Unknown B" - after they are isolated we are then supposed to take the isolated bacteria and put each in a agar slant tube. The first day of this project I put my sterilized loop in the broth - and then did a streak plate on each of the following agar dishes: mannitol salt, EMB, and TSA. I then put them in the incubator - on Wednesday I returned to lab, the results were: TS…

This is kind of embarrassing but I swear my body odor has changed since meeting and being married to my wife. It smells like her body odor which is 'unique', or was, and so thats my question: Is body odor, or the bacteria that die and produce b.o., contagious/transmittable? Or is it probably something else causing this like the food we are eating? Also, I want my old B.O. back...any suggestions? I've tried vinegar under the arms, bleach solution, H202, a little bit of athletes foot spray(!), anything to kill off this strain so my old strain can prosper again. Nothing seems to work. Perhaps biotech is working on new, delicious smelling bacteria to in…

  6. Someone asked me to write a letter.. i wrote it... and think some of you who are in pain... for mysterious reasons.. may want to know. so.. To those who have mysterious auto-immune disorders, I, was diagnosed with Rhuematism, about 20 years ago, and have been in horrible pain for all that time, almost 20 years, but TODAY, I HAVE NO PAIN, and am basically cured, without medication. (I used to take a lot of meds, everyday!!!) Put simply, after 20 years, I figured out that, I AM ALLERGIC TO WHEAT... GLUTEN. THE PROBLEM IS, they put wheat in almost everything processed. The best explination is found here ---> http://www.celiac.com/ which reads…

  7. It seems to me that over-population has little to do with not being enough food or being too jammed together. Any primate group tends to experience over-crowding when the group size grows in excess of the size its species evolved to be optimal to it. We humans evolved to live in hunting/gathering size groups of less than one hundred. How have we manage to so dramatically exceed that---or have we?

I was wondering if anyone who has some familiarity with the PNAS submission process could answer a question for me. I recently submitted a manuscript to PNAS, and it is currently in the quality control stage. I just checked the status of the manuscript and it says "quality control issue identified." Is this normal, or does this mean that there is a problem that must be fixed before it can get sent to an editor? I imagine if there is a problem, they will let me know tomorrow, but in the meantime, I was hoping someone might shed some light on this issue. Thanks.

  9. What health requirements would there be for creatures that helium in their blood? I've read that liquid helium is a very, very cold substance, and that got me thinking that if a certain creature had that substance in it's bloodstream it would need a lot of heat to stay alive.

Evolution as it works on already fairly complex creatures is what I like to think I understand. Using Natural Selection, however, to arrive at these fairly complex creatures from simple ones such as from the very beginning when life was just spawning confused me on the validity of Evolution as a means to describe the origin of life. I tried Googling it but seems to only spawn creationist pages, from what I can tell. Although I don't mind a detailed explanation, something fit for a layperson in terms of biology is preferred.

  11. We study the evolutionary process and the emergence of species in a simulated ecosystem. We have conceived EcoSim, an individual-based evolving predator-prey ecosystem simulation. The agents evaluate their environment (e.g., distance to predator/prey, distance to potential breeding partner, distance to food, energy level), its internal state (e.g., fear, hunger, curiosity) and chooses among several possible actions such as evasion, eating or breeding. The behavioral model of each individual is unique and is the outcome of the evolution process. This is the only simulation modeling the fact that individual behaviors affect evolution and speciation. We were able to predict …

I'm having trouble finding anything at all about bacteria that are parasitic to any kind of fungi. There must be some, after all this is Biology. Maybe they havn't been found yet! Cheers Sluggy

It is? Nothing is found in the research? I believe in your case the testosterone is flowing to the brain but it persist? Perhaps its the latter and your brain simply does not react to the testosterone. Humans are very sensitive and have very sensitive brains. Homosexuality is something i have never seen in other animals. I guess with the higher intelligence comes the bigger sensitivity.

Is it possible for humans to successfully mate and reproduce with apes? Or are we too genetically far apart? We see this kind of thing all the time in works of fiction, done for the sake of drama or humor, but when I think about how apes and humans are both primates it makes me wonder if such a thing would be possible. Then again it might be a bad idea since we're the only civilized and sentient species on this planet, so it might be a bad idea. Probably would only work in fiction with only anthropomorphized animals and no humans.

  21. Hello everyone, Ok I have an infection due to to X bacteria. I take too much antibiotics. How does the X bacteria develop resistance then? For the commensals I can understand. I take antibiotics commensals die and the minority that are resistance will survive and multiply and now the new commensals would be resistant. But I'm asking about outside bacteria. Thanks
