  3. I was wondering what you thought. If we look at anthropology and see that we are humans, and humans are defined two ways. We use tools to make tools. We also recognize complex patterns at an astonishing speed. The ability to recognize and navigate by these pattern is what enables emotion, self-expression, reading, writing, all science, the passing of knowledge through generations, it is by definition both common sense and intuition, it is comedy, it is in fact your sixth out of eight senses, the other two are kinesthesia <sp?> and balance. If you look at pre-historic man he found complex patterns in the night sky. His mind was working harder than any other…

  4. I am putting together a PowerPoint presentation and I would like to have a certain picture. I have seen this in a few education films and I think one of you will know what I mean. It looks exactly like these, but is from fish to land and animals. http://www.vega.org.uk/images/series/tnbt/endevolution/150.evolve.jpg http://www.learner.org/channel/courses/biology/images/archive/fullsize/1678_fs.jpg I tried looked at google for an hour and turned up nothing. Much thanks if you could find what I am looking for.

I remember reading a looong time ago that the coldest temperature anything could have was absolute zero, which is like 400 degrees below 0 C. Now if that is true, and temperatures in the sun and other parts of the galaxy can reach temperatures of 10s of thousands above 0 C, would that not mean our planet is relatively cold in the universe? Perhaps im missing something here, but it does seem odd (in a cool way) if true.

Hi folks, Here's an elementary question my wife and I were wondering. From something I read recently, the sky looks blue and the sun appears yellow, because the atmosphere filters the blue from the white light from the sun and bounces it around. Now if that is fact, why do most stars at night appear white instead of yellow? Why does the atmosphere not filter out the blue from that smaller spectrum? Waiting for the easy answer I assume is out there. Crodley

I am looking to subscribe to one or two magazines and would like to get some input on which ones to look at. I picked up Discover and Scientific American and they seem to have some pretty good stuff in them. I'm looking for magazines that can explain things clearly and are respected for the authenticity of their articles. I would like to be able to quote from the magazine while talking to someone and not have to worry about misleading data, things taken out of context, and other issues that can be found in other types of magazines.

Suppose the human population could self-regulate in an ethical and humane way. What do you think would be an ideal level for this planet? this is a question that embraces all or much of science and technology, also biology and bio-ethics, but also (in my own view at least) AESTHETIC values, like fun, peace of mind, and beauty. So it is a very general question----how one answers depends on many branches of science but also touches on morals and one's personal sense of beauty and even on one's religious ideas (some religions would probably wish to deny humans the options of self-regulating populaton because that is considered to be the province of fate or divin…

Please see the full article via the link the below... http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17943650-23109,00.html "We are planning to build a permanent base on the moon by 2015 and by 2020 we can begin the industrial-scale delivery ... of the rare isotope Helium-3," Nikolai Sevastyanov, head of the Energia space corporation, was quoted by ITAR-TASS news agency as saying at an academic conference. Helium-3 is a non-radioactive isotope of helium that can be used in nuclear fusion. Rare on earth but plentiful on the moon, it is seen by some experts as an ideal fuel because it is powerful, non-polluting and generates almost no radioactive by-product.

  17. Ok, enough wishy-washy fluffy talk of the Consciousness Singularity, how do we do this thing? I want details. No crystalline, chakra, or third-eye nonsense. Just suggestions rooted in hard facts. Here are some concrete ideas for bringing about the Consciousness Singularity: FIRST STEP: Establish transpersonal consciousness 1) expand cingulate cortex and synchronize with other people's 2) synchronize thalamic rhythms between people 3) synchronize other brain activities between people 4) screw synchrony, let's hardwire two brains together 5) let's try augmenting one or two people's brains, either by enlarging, enhancing plasticity, or doing som…

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear a case involving the patenting of the link between homocysteine and B-12 deficiency. For the people who do scientific research, do you find your work being hindered substantially due to the threat of being sued over patent violations? According to this 20 percent of the human genome is now privately owned. Do you feel that the current patent system is holding back the amount of scientific discoveries that could be made?

I thought it would be fun to make a thread of annoying myths. I'm sure everyone is annoyed by myths that the naive general public sometimes belief. Ok some of mine: There is no gravity in space (when the astronauts go up) Humans only use 10% of there brain. (I guess this is debatable) Seasons are caused by how far away from the sun earth is. Creationism (I had to say it) These are all I've heard people say and believe to be true. I bet everyone has heard some.

Hi, I'm only 14 years old so excuse any spelling. I personally think gravity is caused by heat, not spinning. First off, The sun is holding the galaxie together because the planets are moving forward and the sun is bringing us into them with its gravitational pull, the sun is extremely hot and it has a pull. Second off, Earth is spinning(which some people think gravity is caused by) but we have a core that also contains extreme heat, we are pulled into it. If gravity was caused by spinning the people on the sides of the earth wouldnt stay. Third off, Space is extremely cold and it has less gravity. Forth off, A spaceship was flying away from the sun and all of the s…

I`ve just finished a small Voltage multiplier 10x 0.1mfd capacitors rated at 1kv each in a 5 stage ladder, I`ve powered this up at roughly 1kv at 8Khz (current unknown but quite low). I get a half inch spark every second (a little less time on occasion) and the sound is like a Whip cracking with a bright UV type flash (I still have spots in front of my eyes). I thought I`de intecept this arc with an old envelope laying about on my desk, it still worked, but there`s a series of tiny holes through the paper now, including the part where the sticky is, about the size of a pin prick. the REALLY interesting part is that upon closer examination the "Blow out" hole it towards …
