Hi I am Rob, Im new to the forum. Please can someone tell me if there is a battery which is powered by heat? I need to take the heat in a pipe and use it to power a pcb. is it possible? Thanks

I can see that most of people here are talking about pulling this and that scientific sources from google. I just don't understand. Don't you think that sounds bitter? I personally don't really use google for scientific info due to the fact that the result out of it doesn't seem to be credible and reliable. My university’s library is a 7 story building open 24 hours with over 10 million books and countless articles you can find in their database and online...which keep me up to date in my field of emphasis and are far more accredited than those from google. Now anyone tells me why should i trust google as a credible source of a particular field of interests?

I would like to introduce the a new theory called ionization sharing. When one thinks of ionization, energy is inputted into an atom to ionize an electron. The lower the orbtials, the higher the ionization energies to kick out the electrons. Within dense chemical plasma, such as would be expected within the earth, ionization energies should drop. The reason this is is because within fluid chemical plasmas the orbitals are overlapping. If there any reason why the earth's magnetic field lines up with the north and south pole? Nasa data indicates that seismic waves travel faster N-S than E-W showing that the center of the earth is structurally organized with respect to the poles. Did or does the high thermal gradient with the poles induce the magnetic field direction?

I recently remembered something I'd heard ages ago about the amount of times it is physically possible to fold any pice of paper. I think it was something like "you can only fold a piece of paper 8 times". This is an incredibly vague statement... I mean couldn't the paper be astronomically big? Or thick? And what classes as a fold? I didn't know what category it belonged in. Anyone heard this before or something similar? Anyone know the answer?

me and my dad recently got into a heated debated on wether gravity or centrifugal force holds the earth to the sun(or a solar system or a galaxy or a universe). i said that gravity was the major factor, but centrifugal force is a very small factor. he said that centrifugal force is the major factor and gravity is a almost non existent factor. am i wrong?! he felt like i was being sooo stupid with my idea and i vice versa.

I am planning on taking a 6-12 month trip to Honduras, Central America. In a region near where I am going, exists a ravine carved in a mountain by a river. The great part of this ravine is that it is 5 miles long, and is virtually untouched by science. The second greatest thing about the ravine is that it is a sub-tropical/torpical biome and is surrounded by grassland for hundreds of miles... Now if you dont know where I am going with this yet, I plan to fully explore the ravine and document the species which reside in it. It's that time again and I'm at a loss this year. My daughter has shot down everything I have suggested so far as either being "too dangerous, or illegal". i was at a loud concert of some sort. The music is so loud it temproraily damages your ears (obviously in the long run more permenantly if exposed too much, but thats not really relevant to the concerning issue). This of coarse makes it harder to hear the music. I realized if i lightly plugged my ears, i was shielded from the full volume, and yet what i did hear seemed to be much clearer music. I wondered if this had to do with the soundwaves using my fingers as antenaes, and since sound travels faster (and more efficiently?) through a solid (my fingers being more solid than air). I was thinking about a psychology research project that I have always wanted to do involving IQ, and then I thought about how interesting it would be if it could be done over the internet. I'm trying to find out the percentage of oxygen content in the atmosphere for a given temperature, altitude and relative humidity and how that oxygen content percent changes as the temperature changes (with the relative humidity percentage staying the same) the fixed relative humidity is 53%. the altitude is fixed at sea level. thanks Andrew.

Why do we need airplanes, buses and trains to take us places? Since the earth is rotating couldn't we just take some sort of spacehip to the outer atmosphere of our planet, then at certain time when the rotation of the earth is at the point of your destination, drop the spaceship vertically at that point. That would save alot of fuel and headache. I hate flying! Are there flaws with this idea? Any inputs or ideas why it wouldn't work?

Hello all! Could not somebody help me advice? I'm looking for typical official duties for employees of research laboratories (postgraduate and associate researchers, technicians, professors ect.)... Like instruction... Something formal, like "X is obliged to observe safety precautions regulations, to participate in educational programs".
