I won't do a full ten count, and I suppose some of you will have over ten... but I will start by mentioning some obvious ones... The Wheel Fire Darwin's odd idea that all living creatures share a common ancestor.

Many pictures on the news show the discharge ends of the pump pipes at 10 -if not more- feet above the surface. The brutal flow reduction and increased amount of fuel makes no sense. And that pumping operation is conducted by "experts" ? The discharge ends should be as close as possible to water level to be efficient, probably doubling flow. SHAME ! -The land of waste- Miguel

Yes. Theories are interpretations of experimental/observational evidence. The experiment can't be wrong, but the interpretation can. That is why theories are never proven.

Interestingly, one of the most important things Einstein did was show that Newton was wrong. Should Einstein not have done that because Newton was dead? It's amusing to note that I didn't say Einstein was wrong. I said he was right, and that's how you could tell that Beecee hadn't quoted him. Did you actually read what I said?

A comment I previously posted on another thread : Oh so your idea is like mine, only more indepth. I think this idea is just as credible as the big bang. The universe suddenly expands into everything/ the particle suddenly begins to move thus simulating everything. Whats up with the big bang anyway, what triggered it? obviously this cant be answered, but then why do they claim that the big bang is the most reasonable idea? Its really not. Oh well i dont really care to be honost. Hey why don't you get the idea published? I wonder if it has already . . . . i'm going to go look. To see what i'm replying to, its A New Look at the Big Bang (a thread by Aman). I'…

I would hope that this may be an appropriate Forum for consideration of a Cross-Disciplinary Theory. Having published a summary of my research into the Theory of a Human Response to Tectonic Stress there was very little response from the Geoscientific Community. This may be because work has only recently developed on the interactions between the lithosphere and the biosphere. This is not a 'pure' Geological theory and neither does it fit comfortably in the Humanities. Can I urge this Forum to consider the possibility that the effects of tectonic stress may influence human behaviour. A summary of my research can be found on the Geological Society of London's website a…

I was recently reading in psychology class about Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. According to the Wikipedia article this theory suggests that Humans can have more than one type of intelligence. Specifically : 1 Verbal-linguistic 2 Logical-mathematical 3 Visual-spatial 4 Kinesthetic 5 Auditory 6 Interpersonal Communication 7 Intrapersonal Communication I'd like to hear some comments on this if you will. The address for the Wikipedia article is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_intelligence

First of all, I was guided by my theory of interrelation between the conflict and control under creation of my theory of social progress. And also I was guided by the theory of biological evolution of Charles Darwin. This theory of Darwin has become for me a sample for imitation under creation of my theory of social progress. Besides, I have drawn conclusions from errors of a utopia of Marx about communism and failures of Marxist experiment in Russia. The negative result of Marxist experiment in Russia is too result for me. The conflict and control is major human relations in society. Progress of society leads to the invention everything new and new types of the conflict …

After reading up on solar energy extensively, it seems the major drawback is of course that is absorbs less than 20% of the sun's rays as energy, and the rest becomes heat. Why do we not see commonly (if at all?) simple mirrors or magification lenses placed on top of bodies of water (such as the ocean) and a chamber which traps all the heat? As the water moved into the chamber, the focused thermal energy would vaporize the water. To increase its efficieny further, the outside of the "chamber" would have a small outer chamber which would absorb radiating heat from inside and warm the water before it ever entered the middle, thus reducing the amount of energy insid…

I have this literature anthology from english class, it's over two thousand pages long, but from the outside it doesn't look like it, because the pages are really thin. My question: What is this paper made out of and how do they get it so thin?? Thank you

I've made my off-topic thoughts known on outside-the-box thinking recently in another thread. I'll let others chime in on what it means to them. I'll just start us off with this: the original reference, from what I can tell, was to an actual BOX, the 9-dot "box" puzzle where you're supposed to connect all the dots with just 4 straight lines, without lifting up your pencil (Sam Loyd's Cyclopedia of 5000 Tricks, Puzzles, and Conundrums, 1914). The only way to solve it is to draw your lines past the perimeter of dots, or "outside the box". It's a misdirection trick, we're fooled because we're thinking of the rules for normal connect-the-dots, but it makes us believe we d…

i was thinking about 'spontaneous human combustion' today and i was just wondering, though i'm not trying to prove it or anything, if a human body was to reach a high enough starting temperature, would it burn unaided, even if the source of heat stopped?

Recently, I read from the journal (forgot what. It was in library) about alcohols. Alcoholism is a chronic disease that can be cured. I know, heard, and learned that there are rehabs which help people about quitting alcohols and coming back to the normal life. But I don't think alcoholism is never "cured." I mean, only reason that those people do not drink is because they're afraid of what will happen if they start drinking again. It does not really "remove" the desires to drink. So, I don't think alcoholism is something that can be cured. Is my argument true or scientifically, alcoholism can be cured?

this either belongs in here or pseusdoscience, having said that, I`ll give it a shot here, if it degrades I`ll shift it. I had an idea several years while playing guitar, occasionaly is worth going up to the speakers really close with the pickup heads to get a neat feedback sound that would alter with the distance of movement you made closer or further away from the speakes, it could really make some note almost "sing". I was wondering if a similar setup could be used to amplify brainwave EM emissions, sure they`re only tiny, but you`de only need amplitude modulation to pass the signal Imagine an EM pump in the center of a room and in each corner a pickup coi…

Hi, my name is Paul I am currently studying an art history degree in the uk, in particular I am researching Piet Mondrian and a painting called 'Evolution' (1910-1911). Having researched a little in to this already I know the painting represents the 'Three Stages of Knowledge', Mondrian himself became an active member of the Theosophische Gesellschaft, which I believed translates as the Theosophical society (a combination of philosophy and theology). I know that the three stages our as follows:- 1. Thales' speculative science 2. Newton's speciality science 3. Rudin's generalism 1. It is believed that Thales of Miletus (624-547 BC) was the first greek philosopher…

I did a search for the word, "Threshold". Apparently there's no thread that discuss about this amazing phenomonal TV show. I love all those science and math TV shows, such as "ReGenesis", and "Numb3rs". They made me more interesting into those areas. Oftenly I would think in school, "Why am I learning this crap?". Let me tell you, nothing is crap, because it can come back to you and you wished that you remember it. You'll just never know when you will need the specific information. A brief overview of Threshold: Broadcasting at 10 PM every friday night on Global. THRESHOLD is a suspenseful drama about a team of experts who are assembled when the U.S. Navy makes a chil…

Hello to you reading my post. I am new on this forum and I hope someone can explain me something about "my quest" to unrafel the "mysteries" of Time Dilation in "somehow" plain english. I tried to read a lot about this subject on the internet, but one thing remains a mystery to me, and I hope you guys can give me a satisfying explanation Imagine, a atomic clock begin on a jet traveling on 99% lightspeed, and a atomic clock being complety stationary. After some while, when both clocks are together and completely stationary, why is the clock on the jetplane behind? Is it because there is simply no explanation possible, like huge masses "make" gravity...an…

Someone asked me that if you could travel throug the time and i instantly said no. But thinking about it, yes you can travel to the time, if you could do some stuff. For example... if you invert all electromagnetic field and run your electrons spin exactly the opposite you´d be travelling to the time backwards... Thinking that you could build a machine that inverts the electromagnetic fields, then you enter in... spend one hour inside then you turn it on.... you´ll travel backwards 1 hour. Einstein could never bind electromagnetic fields with gravity.. i dont think is to hard (hypotheticaly) though everything responds to electromagnetic fields, gravity is …

The topic is the theories and facts that surround the passage of time and time travel. I would like to start this discussion with anyone's thoughts on the "butterfly effect." Is it true? Is it false? I believe that the answer is true.

I am not sure where to put this so I will put this in General Science. If it belongs in a different sub-forum then I apologize in advance. I have been thinking about the three parts of time past present and future. Past and future seem relatively simple to define but I have been struggling to find a definition of present. I mean if I say this is present by the time I am done saying that it has all happened in the past. And we see everything in the past because even though light is incredible fast it take the light sometime to reach our eyes from what ever it hit. So what we see is actually in the past. Also I have been thinking that when if I looked at the ni…
