I'll take any recommendations for speed reading software. Keep in mind I would like a program I could use long-term. Also, I'm not interested in reading 1000's of words per minute, only to improve my reading. Thank you.

UC Berkeley has the tune for a new football fight song. Listen to the tune here: http://www.calband.berkeley.edu/calband/media/audio/CalTriumph.mp3 there was a national competition to come up with the music and it was won by someone who had never composed music before surprisingly but it sound pretty good, and like a fight song should now there is a competition to supply words to go with the tune. this is your chance to become a published poet. compose some lyrics to go with this tune and mail them to UC Marching Band 72 Cesar Chavez Student Center Berkeley CA 94720-4280 if you dont think composing lyrics for the college fight song is about edu…

  4. I found this article on CNN's website. Basically, it says that while the number of jobs requiring scientific skills increases, the number of American students who major in science or engineering lags behind other nations. (Finland has the highest proportion of scientists.) Although the U.S. depends on foreign-born scientists, many of them have problems with immigration or are sought by their own countries. Here's the full story: http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/05/06/science.education.ap/index.html

Native speakers, please, check the following abstract of the article. Are there any mistakes? Research of distance, gain, angular characteristics of ionospheric radio channel on middle-latitude routes of various extent and orientation is lead. Work contains results of experimental researches of the specified frequency characteristics of ionospheric radio channel and results of simulation modeling of processes of distribution on the routes participating in experiments. The technique of recalculation distance-frequency characteristic in angular-frequency characteristic is developed. Testing of this technique has been done.

My classes last year were pretty good classes. The classes had no more than 30 students or so. The parking lots weren't too bad, except on days when everyone got out of school at the same time. Then it was pretty bad. But now, my classes have 40 students or so. The parking lots are scary because they are so full of cars and most people have tight schedules, so they're on a hurry. My junior high school, which was a California Distinguished School 2 years ago when I was back there, is now crowded as heck. The parking is full and the 2-way streets are crowded. People are stalling traffic , turning this illegal way, parking in that illegal spot, holding up traffic, etc. B…

Did you ever took an IQ test twice? Tell me, it showed the same values? An IQ test doesn't show the true value of the IQ, ut depends on many factors. Mine was: 129,138 and 125. How is that?

Would anyone here be willing to give a brief summary of how the pre-collegiate UK (and, if significantly different, the British) education system is structured? Among other topics, I'm interested in the following: when (i.e. what year) students take "standardized" tests, what "A level" tests are, how classes are chosen (primarily by students, or a set schedule, or by some other means), what kind of entrance exams are required before applying to a university, what requirements one needs to satisfy to graduate from various levels, and so on. No summary would have to be formal, for this the purpose of this inquiry is simply to satisfy my curiosity. Also, if anyone i…

I swear this isn't a thread spinoff, cuz i think remember reading in the disclosure that those were illegal or something, it's just a focus for a new thread, spawned from a sidetrack on another thread http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1044&page=2&pp=20 Read replies 24-28, if you want, but at least 27 and 28, since thats the main question. Which ever approach one were to take, we'd need to be more proactive than a handful of complainers expecting that things will magically fix themselves if we simply speak up. But which road to take to improve (or completely change) the system? Buckle down and work with the system, until we gain e…

Okay, I have always been a little more, advanced, than the group around me(or at least I think I am). I found out that schools look more towards achievement nowadays, and less towards grades. Also I think the whole IQ test is just how well you can take the test. Anyways, I have always been interested in power and science because I like science. I came up with likes of concepts, theories ect... and alot of them could be realisticly applied to the world around me. I think that since the brains development starts at age 0-25 and it still develops after that but not hardly as much, then what schools push for is LEARN EVERYTHING THAT IS ALREADY BEEN DONE. CONFOR…

I'm currently a student at BCC (community college in Florida) and am hoping to transfer into a good Chem Engineering or Chemistry program, preferrably in Southern California. It seems that all of these schools want a letter describing you, and what you can bring to the school. Has anyone written these types of letters, or reviewed them? Any tips on how extensive/brief the letter should be, the types of things they want to know/hear, etc? I know I need to have pretty competative stats to transfer to one of these schools from out of state. I have a 3.6 with 60+ credits thusfar. Does it help to get the actual AA degree? I am missing some writing credit even after next F…

I have a few questions: 1) The translation of "who would you be if you don't know who you are" is Quem eris si quem non scris quid es, correct? 2) These are stupid grammar questions, but what is the dative, genitive, ablative, etc? I know the nominative and accusative, but these I don't know... 3) The perfect is past tense, imperfect general past, future is just that, but how would one conjugate the conditional? IS there a conditional?

I think this is in the right category, I apologise if it isnt. I would just ask people to talk about -science books the have read -They would like to read and general discussion about scientific reading. I will start 2 of the latest books I have read are; Black holes a travellers guide (which I believe I have now read 16 times because its so good)- which I urge people to read, its light and also throws in some formulas for good measure). Also; In search of shrodingers cat, which is really an introduction to physics, chemistry, and of course the quantum, and later it gets more involved into QED. Another one I found in the attic is HUGE it has all th…

I'm just wondering how you guys remember these derivatives; I mean, d[sec(x)]/dx = sec(x) tan(x) isn't as easy to remember as d[sin(x)]/dx So yeah, do you guys remember the tan & inverse trig derivatives just as formulaes? Or you use them so much that you it's already in your head? Or...any strategies?

In the last year or so I have taken the initiative to teach myself what I think I should already know. (make sense?) Let me give you an example. After taking the graduation test and making a 97% percentile in the science portion, which should of made me feel good (I think) I knew that I really didn't know much at all about basic biology and chemistry, seriously I didn't know the difference between an ionic bond, and a covalent bond. So last year I "acquired" a human physiology book, and have been studying it for about an hour a day in the classes I don't need to graduate. The book is very straightforward and explains the basics in detail. I seem to learn a lot faster…
