I have a choice of studying an electromagnetism module or a quantum mechanics module next academic year. Whichever i do not study next year i will study the following year. Both are 3rd year undergrad level modules with the open uni. I was just wondering if anyone would recommend studying one before the other, and if so why. Otherwise i'll choose on other considerations. Thanks.

MIT Professor is holding a course, starting soon, on the origins of human language. It's free, online, and only takes a few hours to complete. Thought some of you might find it interesting. https://www.edcast.org/learn/origins-of-human-language-birds-monkeys-and-humans-spring2015

The model of education in the United States of America has been the same for quite a long time now this taking hour long classes and meeting tight deadlines of assignments, as well as examinations, has not even had any marginal change despite the fact that America has changed a lot in the last few decades. Despite the fact that Americans have had a blast of information developments in the field of academics in the United States has been near to none. The academic model has continued to be the same as it was before Neil Armstrong had landed on the moon. Luckily there are a few educationalists that have been bringing up this issue of an outdated academic model that has been…

I am a bit confused and need some opinions.. 1. What model of higher education (at a national level) is the best in your opinion, dear forum users? What I managed to conclude from my limited knowledge is that there are two quite distinct models of higher education - the American one and European one (with British being the most distinct). The first one is based on high autonomy of a university and also on high number of private schools which dominate both the best (Ivy League, MIT, Caltech etc) and the worst (various evangelical schools etc.) end of the spectrum. In Europe most universities are state funded and the best universities in Europe are also state funded. In…

I really like to go to collage and take biology and chemistry that is related to the human body and medicine. Yes understanding the human body, disease, conditions and illness. What makes body do the things it does and how to come up with cures. I hear there are three education types. A PHD a 10 years of collage the the highest you can get on a subject. A master degree a 5 years of collage on a subject could be biology and chemistry. A Bachelor or major degree a two to three years of collage on a subject could be biology and chemistry. How does this tie into medicine? And jobs working for a pharmaceutical company or doing lab work? And doing scientific stud…

I go to WSU and I'm a pre pharm major, but I'm also an Honors student.I was told I had to declare a major (nothing with pre- in it) in order to graduate with university honors. I have no idea what major I should choose. This is my second semester and I'm almost a year behind with classes. I want a major thats not too difficult, but something that goes together well with pre pharm because I don't want to take more classes than I can handle. I thought of getting a bachelor's in radiology technology, but that is also a "pre" major. I don't think I can handle any math higher than Calc 2, and I don't want to take any biology courses beyond the pre pharm requirements (Intro the…

Hi, I am going to be teaching a grad student class here in Japan on presentations. It will be a small class of only a half-dozen or so students, some of whom will be in their first year, who are studying in the computer science and speech recognition fields. In order to get them best prepared for articulating their theses in English, and defending and integrating ideas, I am searching for collections of previously delivered speeches, (Powerpoint) presentations, and posters (for poster sessions) from the sciences. I'll have my students choose some of these to study well enough to speak on, present, and defend. Can anyone help guide me on where I can find such resou…

GETTING KNOWLEDGE Part 1: Reflecting as I now do on my 65 year reading life from 1949 to 2014, I found Darwin’s way of reading a book of interest. He “often annotated heavily, prepared his own index of interesting passages, broke a book in half at the binding if it was too heavy and stopped to write about it in his notebooks.” He showed, as Howard Gruber puts it: “a man at work using books as tools for getting knowledge, not as exhibitions of knowledge already crystallised”.1 Gillian Beer characterizes Darwin’s reading style, as “full of questions & exclamations, enthusiastic rebuttals and problem raising queries”.2 Howard Ernest Gruber(1922-2005) was an …

Hi. I'm a 10th grade high school kid and I feel like starting my path to studies I would like to do in the future. I'm interested in biochemistry, molecular biology, and nano-technology. I want to study how chemicals interact with the structures of cells, especially how muscles work, and replicate it for our own good. The problem is, I don't know where to begin. What should Self-study about and with? Links and books would help. Tganks!

Some people are full time students and go to school full time. How do they get money for housing? Is there any tricks or way to get housing benefits as a student at least till I get my first grant check? It is a private community college and is an accelerated trade program. You can get the training in under 6 months. However they dont offer housing. Its not near where I live its about 5 hours away. Is there any possible way to get rent assistance just for the first month or so?

The Theory of Life The Theory of Life states that to find the meaning of Life/God, one must first understand The Law of Nature The Law of Nature states that Enlightenment is the cause of behaviors. What is behavior? the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others. What is Enlightenment? Enlightenment is a Sense of Self that is reached by the research and analysis of both The Forces of Knowledge and Understanding. What is Sense of Self? The value of which relates to how one perceives Truth or Deception. What are the Forces of Nature? Energy and Strength attributed to emotion caused by the degree of which one is Enlightened. …

Hello. I have a problem here. I'm currently a student in physics (on my first year). I'm very interested in neurophysics and neurosciences, but also in theoretical mathematics (it was my second choice) and electronics (robotics). The problem is (it might sound silly but..) I want to earn a great salary, especially after 8 years of university. I thought that maybe a medical physicist or a neurophysicist/scientist could earn more than just a ''regular'' physicist (no offense to people who study physics in non-health related fields). Also my physics and mathematics teachers told me that if I wanted to make a lot of money I should switch to medicine. I also thought that I…

Is there a age limit to when you can start teaching? Like if you got a job you did for say 20 years and retired and wanted to be a teacher in your late 40s or early 50s would that be possible? or is there a cut off age? I know there is a cut off age for other things like being a cop or Military but I have seen a lot of older teachers. So could you start teaching at an older age or do you have to be Young?

I been looking for colleges that start later than January with a education class. I found one that has the right date and right classes. However I cant go. They require a letter of recommendation and transcripts straight from my high-school. However my old High-school is really strict about doing anything or letting graduates near or in the school. To get in or to talk to anyone I have to call a teacher inside the school and have them call the front office and tell them to let me in. Since I dont have a good relationship with my HS I cant get my transcripts transferred or ask a teacher for recommendation letter. So what am I suppose to? Does that mean I cant go since my H…

Hi everyone! Is the aluminium chloride colorimetric assay considered as general common knowledge or even subject-specific (biology-specific) common knowledge? I've basically slightly modified this method for flavonoid detection from a research journal but I've forgotten to reference the journal that I've taken it from. I do have a small and referenced literature review about this assay but I'm still unsure (and so worried) about whether this counts as plagiarism. Unfortunately I've already submitted my 'thesis'. Nonetheless, I would still like to find out even though there is nothing much that I can do. I guess that if this method is considered to be common k…

What advantages does a Biochemistry focus have over a biology degree? How do these majors contrast in terms of research of academia or industrial? What about MD/PhD programs? Do either of these majors become more efficient for someone who plans on completing an intensive program like an MD/PhD? I know that most, if not all, these questions can be answered by merely Googling them, but the answers I am getting aren't sufficient. All I understand is that biochemistry is a harder major and that MD//PHD programs are expensive and difficult. I want to know what advantages one major may have over the other given the circumstances. Thanks to anyone who shares an answer,…

What is NLP? Neuro Linguistic Programming: Is the study of how people organize their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they really want? It's the science which explores the workings of the human mind; how we think, how we develop our desires, goals and fears and how we motivate ourselves, make connections and make sense of our experiences. Briefly it's the art of modelling of human excellence.
