  1. I find this more inspiring than any other motivational poster. It's good to know that our favorite inventors kept "boring" day jobs before they made it big. I'm a budding programmer myself and I have been working on a new geocaching game inspired by geotoad, but while I'm working on my passion, I still have to make sure there's food on the table. For my day job, I'm behind the counter at a horror movie store.
  2. I think it's all about appropriation. There's always a time and place for everything, and we must be sensitive when we use our language around people. We all have the right to freely express our ideas, but cuss words just don't bode well for some people, or won't do well in formal settings where everyone is expected to act professionally. Personally, I think cuss words aren't "insulting" or disturbing, but they are unwelcome in a formal setting because you have to be prim in speech and deeds. Cuss words are seen as such-- as, you know, cuss words, because they have no real meaning, and they are just fillers. If you use cuss words in formal settings, it suggests poor vocabulary, no manners, you know, 18th century stuff. In some settings, better words may be used in place of cuss words. (I think!). We just love saying them because we attach our emotions when we do blurt out a cuss word.
  3. You could just Google it, you know. Or try contributing some nice science facts on Cracked. I heard they welcome writers, especially ones with an interesting story to tell, with arms wide open.
  4. I remember seeing this clip of people inventing a kind of laser that could peel potatoes. I remember thinking to myself, "wow, what a time to be alive."
  5. Are you shy? Do you have social anxiety? I think it helps to know what causes you to freeze up in social settings first.
  6. Like many posters here have said, it was made to appeal to a particular group of people, hence the need for the fancy lights and theatrics. Personally, if I were someone who hasn't opened a science book in years, I'd probably enjoy it, and go, "SCIENCE, B*TCH!" Cosmos is inspiring a lot of people, and that gets support from me.
  7. I managed to get all 3 questions correctly, now where's my medal?
  8. Elementary school feels. I loved Red Alert 2 and its SFX was my jam!
  9. Science is amazing! Soon, I won't have to wait for my dealer... I mean......
  10. What I find remarkable about sleep paralysis is that it is documented throughout history, from one separate culture to another. If I'm not mistaken, Japanese lore has talked about this fat, sumo-wrestler like ghost that sleeps on people's chests, causing people to stay paralyzed shortly after waking up.
  11. This sounds like the plot line of "The Secret". I remember when it came out and people's go-to quote for awhile was, "what the mind can conceive, the body can achieve," and people bought it! Positive thinking, positive thinking everywhere.
