With Apple's announcement of the video iPod yesterday (and subsequent explosion of stock value), I thought it might be interesting to run a little poll on whether people think that video download service (e.g. paying $1.99 to download last night's episode of "Lost") will take off. Before deciding, you may want to read this interesting analysis by Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and the HD Net network (an ardent blogger). He points out a number of potential benefits of this kind of service that are not immediately obvious, such as long-term availability of low-popularity (but existing fan-base) shows (ala Firefly), and that it provides an entirely new revenu…

(this turned out longer than I thought it would - bear with me please) Hi, i'm a history major at the University of Michigan - Dearborn Campus. I've been having some problems lately because i've become increasingly uninterested in law, politics & religion (which are things that history seems to rotate around) and more interested in the sciences. I come from a highschool that was very underfunded in science and, as a result, don't know much about Biology, Chemistry or Physics, eventhough I still have a fascination with them. I've tried taking a college level Bio class and only received a B-, although I found the subjects more fascinating than any of the his…

I couldn't find any technology forums on here, so I'll just put this joke on here: Ferrari's Driving School Here is your chance to learn how to drive like the pros in the first N.A. Ferrari Driving School. The catch? Ferrari owners only. I laughed at this after I done read it. If you DO have a Ferrari, then the link is: http://en.autos.sympatico.msn.ca/as/minishow/article.aspx?contentID=4023025&s=CIAS2006.

We all want to know, what does your username and avatar mean? My username: my name IRL is Juliet, but at the time I was signing up for the board I wanted something a little more anonymous. I dont know why I chose "In My Memory", but I really liked the sound of it when it came to mind. My avatar: its a cartoon of me, and actually its not a bad resemblance. It was created with Yahoo! Avatars. Trivia and other things you probably didnt know: I found out some time ago that "In My Memory" is the name of a trance-styled CD, which takes its name from one of the songs on the disc. I bought the CD to see if it was any good, and the song "In My Memory" itself is a…

A truely interesting game, has a good amount of flow to it. It somewhat reminds me of the first part of the game Spore, the single celled organism part atleast. Once you play the game, you truely loose track of time, so watch it. http://intihuatani.usc.edu/cloud/flowing/

Quite a random thing happened today walking home, as I managed to bump into Anthony Stewart Head who's the guy who plays Giles from 'Buffy the vampire slayer' and the prime minister in 'Little britain'. I was quite taken aback at first, but my friend who's obsessed with Buffy, ran over to him hystericaly so I joined her and ended up talking to him for quite a while. He was genuinely a really nice guy and I found out his daughter, who im going to have to ''befriend'' is due to join my college in september. Anyway, have any of you met or know anyone thats famous?

When you read a book, what voice are you reading with? When you read this text, your mind is saying the words, but in whose voice. Yours? Mine varies. As an example, when I read something by Carl Sagan, its his voice I "hear", and now that I've heard Lisa Randall, I hear her sometimes. I want to know what others "hear", or do you just hear what you think is you? Bettina

As suggested by RyanJ I think we (users) should make a SFN staff award/poll. First question is what categories? We could use similar categories to the users awards: 1. Most helpful 2. Most knowledgeable 3. Most interesting 4. Best debater 5. Most enjoyable I removed the "most imporved" category (what do you think?). And here are some new ideas: 6. Best at moderating 7. Who would (when the time is right) be the most likely to be promoted to admin? What do you guys think? Feel free to suggest more.

This thread goes back to my school days when I used to listen to 'Steve Wright in the afternoon' on bbc radio one...it's quite simple, just follow the title. A few examples. I wish this spot was on the end of my nose. (SFN specific) No wonder creationism is popular, the evidence is irrefutable. I wish they'd bring back window tax, it makes so much sense.
