I stumbled across this and quite liked it " A very self-important college freshman attending a recent football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation. "You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one,"the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear. "The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with light-speed processing....and," pausing to take another drink of…

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/06/death.irwin.greer/index.html?section=cnn_topstories No better time to wait until someone dies than to criticize them. Germaine Greer, best known for her feminist book "The Female Eunuch", said Wednesday Irwin was an "embarrassment" and a "self-deluded animal torturer". So... what do you think?

I thought that with a fair number of people on this site interested in science fiction it might be interesting to run a short story competition. Perhaps we could have a similar set up to the debate forum, with an area to vote and discuss the stories. I'm interested in the level of support, and any suggestions about how you'd like to work.

Hello Listening to radio news while on the way to work, when a report came up discussing the cost of education in America. Found it quite shocking to see projected current cost of a Bachelor Degree from an average size University. That being $40,000 American. I think that's around 16,000 Australian, 18,000 British Pounds, and 32,000 Euros. Futher they reported that most students upon graduation will spend the first ten years of their working lifes paying off student loans. And that some fifteen years ago a young first time home buyer from these recent graduates put and average of 15% down when buying their first home. That amount is now 0% with the a…

How does one get a [whatever] expert title, and how do they prove that they really are an "expert" in whichever field? Why should I believe that someone really is a resident/physics expert or whatever?

No jokes or punchlines, which is fine. and i understand his dry humor, but its not funny. its very forced, like some of colbert's humor. altho at times it seems colbert pulls out of that shit and shows genuine emotion instead of that apathetic demeanor.

Hello Bored and having morbid thoughts about if I died today what would I want on my tombstone. Hey, most times people leave it up to those left behind to come up with something. So why not write your own when alive. For me I think this will suffice. 'Was here, didn't really hurt anyone, and manged to provide a fun laughs. Now split for parts unknown. However for my eulogy, think i'll write that too. And lie my ass off about my whole life, I'm dead what do I care, figure why not have fun with it. So what do you want on your tombstone? Recently there has been an outbreak of keylogger viruses getting into peoples computers. I play an online game (world of warcraft) and many players have lost their accounts becuase of it. What happens is someone will post a link to a site where a keylogger will be downloaded. Then the next time you try to log into a game it steals your account info. Just wanted to let people to know that they should be wary of things like this. some more info can be found here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=14714952&pageNo=1&sid=1

Ok everyone probably already knows the rules but here they are: Make a wish. ex: I wish i had a big bag of peanuts. The next poster corrupts the wish: Granted but you now have a severe peanut allergy. ok i will start. I wish that none of my teachers would assign homework this school year.

We have a thread on this on the Astronomy board already, but I thought it interesting enough to go ahead and mention it here. The ESA is crashing its SMART-1 probe into the lunar surface in a dark region of the moon facing the Earth, tomorrow night (Saturday night) at 10:41pm Pacific, 1:41am Eastern time. The crash supposedly will produce enough light to see it by if you're watching at the right moment. (Ironically the crash will only be visible here in the Americas -- Europeans won't get to see it!) Some info here, including visual aids: http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/watchtheskies/30aug_smart1.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_1

I'm not really sure how to begin this post... I thought I was purchasing something worth thousands of dollars, but I just realized that I'm not going to get it. I guess I could have written a long and angry post about it, but I don't think anyone here would benefit from hearing me ramble about something that doesn't affect them. Besides, I should be used to it by now. No matter what I try to do, everything just fails. Nothing ever works out for me, and I just end up losing my money. I'd like to think that I could be someone successful, but I just keep falling for scams. I've tried to start several online companies throughout my entire life, but all of them fa…

We have not had one of these threads for a while... The game is easy: find a pithy, funny quote from another forum member from waaay back when, one so old the person who said it forgot they ever posted something so funny.
