http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1230092/Patient-trapped-23-year-coma-conscious-along.html Honestly this is one of the scariest things I can imagine. I would suspect this is a fairly rare occurrence, though I am glad apparently technology is getting better at identifying such cases. I have no idea how the mind could cope with that and not go insane. Not sure what I even have to say on the topic but I felt it was worth sharing. Maybe I'll think of more to say when I am less distracted by cold shivers down my spine just thinking about it!

so i was watching National Geographic's program Explorer where they explored a Giant Crystal Cave in Naica, and watching it i saw all the scientist wonder in amazement over the giant gypsum crystals. Is it really all that suprising that there are giant crystal caves? i mean honestly, how could you not know that there are these subterranian caves? personally, i think the book Journey to the Center of the Earth isn't all that far-fetched. you have alot of area near old and new magma vents that could form such caves and we see this in the naica cave. if anything i am suprised we haven't found a Giant "ruby" Cave or other gem stones. all ruby takes is iron.. or maybe co…

now my girl and I are basicly opposites. she is hardcore into art and i'm hardcore into science. this difference over time leads to different mind sets and how we think. we seldom have debates and when we do one of us usually gets ticked off. she gets ticked at me for being to analitical and I get ticked because she seems to beleive in thing she can't explain or provide evidence for. for example she beleives in fate and that only one person in the world is right for you. i couldn't agree less and was shocked by this ridiculous idea. also i told her about some women who are high risk for breast cancer can get geneticly tested. she said that was wrong and that we ha…

Now, I've been taught since I was little to "not run in the halls" and to "quit tearing around the store", but now, I really wonder why. I mean, there are so many times that it would be SOOO much quicker to just run somewhere. Why walk for 10 minutes when you can run and be there in 5? But, when I tried this at my uni to get to my class quicker, I get looks from almost everyone as if I'm some sort of loon. So I ask all you adults, why is it that society hates people getting to places quicker? I honestly don't see how someone running somewhere is bad, or why we teach our kids not to. Any thoughts?

in the 007 film 'the world is not enough' a man is killed by exploding money. it is later explained that the money had been dipped in urea, and one of the metal strips in the money had been replaced with magnesium, and the man had a radiotransmitter on him which set it off. i am a bit sceptical and would like to know if this would work... firstly, wouldn't it need to be in a sealed container for it to explode? secondly, would the magnesium strip ingnite from a radio transmitter? and if so wouldn't it ignite from all the other radio signals travelling around MI6's headquarters?

...it does make a sound. Why? The universe doesn't need our presence for its laws to function. How do I conclude that? Because the universe has existed longer than our fossil record indicates. And sound waves do occur without the presence of a biological listening apparatus. It can be tested: just place a glass chalice along with a machine that emits a high pitched electronic sound deep into the woods away from human ears, come back and observe if the glass shattered. Voilà

How to prepare effectively for an exam 1. Make sure you will collect all lecture notes and related material at least 2 weeks before the exam. After that this task will be almost impossible to complete. 2. You DEFINITELY need to get some past papers for this exam. Usually you can get them from the library, university web site or from your own tutor. In some cases past papers may be accompanied with answers. 3. 1-2 weeks before the exam talk to your tutor and ask him or her what kind of questions there will be on exam. In 70% of cases you will receive very valuable information which will significantly help you to prepare. Another important aspect is the…

0h7V3Twb-Qk Sometimes it's really hard to gauge how China's economy is actually doing, especially when you see things like this. The discussion of how building an empty city affects their GDP is a very strange one as well. It was also weird to read that while this city is unoccupied, most of the property has been sold to people who are holding it as investments.

So, I've been having a health problems as of late. It started about two months ago. By most standards, people will eventually feel better in two weeks from a generic virus and whatnot. However, I have been having complications for about two months. Two months ago, I went into a doctor about this breathing problem I had. I thought that perhaps it was asthma or some kind of lung condition. I thought it might be lung failure. Basically, I keep having this need to take deep breaths of air. And the action is quite involuntary. I'm pretty sure it's involuntary and not psychological. I don't think it's occurring while I sleep. I could be wrong. But when I wa…

Neutralizing the 'F' word: at 'Fork University'. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two combined words - 'F U!'; as they are expressed in anger or derision, are in fact the most used insult projected in the American idiomatic language. On the other hand, the 'term' is rarely addressed in an objective, unemotional, academic manner, where and when clear heads and emotions prevail. Instead, the (often exclamatory) 'expression' generally succeeds in clearing an abruptly silent passage for itself, that conspicuously cuts through any discussion of it's intrusive motivation, import, or the fact that it is a princip…

is much more a record of Adams's introspection than of his deeds. It is an extended meditation on the social, technological, political, and intellectual changes that occurred over Adams's lifetime. Adams concluded that his traditional education failed to help him come to terms with the rapid changes of his lifetime: hence his need for self-education. The organizing thread of the book is how the "proper" schooling and other aspects of his youth, was time wasted. His autobiography is a description of his search for self-education through experiences, friendships, and reading. The Education of Henry Adams purports to be the autobiography of Henry Adams(1838-1918). I…

As of 11/6/09, the Army psychiatrist, Nidal Malik Hason, has not only killed and wounded dozens of people at Fort Hood, Texas Army Base, he has cast another ominous shadow on what was already - since 9/11 - a very controversial issue; reintroducing fragile questions, including religious undertones - as they relate to (well intended and otherwise motivated) Muslims in America, and activating questions regarding America's motive(s) for armed presence in the Middle East. Very unfortunately, this appears to be a pejorative problem, for which there is no easy solution. Vets and apolitical citizens are being blamed - and are suffering and dying for - questionable executive …
