Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2008/03/21/shroud-turin.html ... interesting... but worse, I bet this will raise the issue (AGAIN) to the creationists (oh, sorry, "Intelligent Design") heads. What are your thoughts about this?

time/space, a random structure. matter, a random structure with defining rules organisms, a random structure with defining rules and choice. Humans, a random structure with defining rules and creative choice. so Consciousness is creative choice from a defined structure choosing thought from all randomness. To measure it is to measure all randomness. Is there anything that you feel you are banned to think, not me. Added Edit: I thought of something that is banned, dimensions in 1D and 2D as well as four, five, six ect. I can think of there representations but i can't actually think of them. I can think of 0D as time. Time is a real entity that is of no physic…

Hall Fractions and Particle Structure. The mass values (actual not the PDG average) for each quark and lepton experiment listed in the Particle Data Group 2006 tables are used to construct a logarithmic graph. The gap between each group and the mass value of the first particle in the higher mass group is used to find the Hall fraction. The theoretical and actual values are listed in the top left panel, and a graph of the actual and theoretical values is shown in the bottom right panel. This should be compared with the criticism of the Constant Linear Force model transferred to ‘Speculations’. It will then be seen that the gaps in table 1 are due to compaction as expla…

.....of the ideas and thoughts in my head! This is not a theory but merely me thinking out loud and seeing what thoughts it provokes in other people. The title may not turn out to be relevant but.... well, let's see. The thread "Gravity is Time" got me to thinking about something else I once said to someone - acceleration = gravity. In this case I meant it in the way Einstein meant ie. if you were in a sealed windowless box (that had extraordinarily good vibration dampening) would you be able to tell if the box was simply sitting on the ground and you feel the 1g pull of the Earth or if you were in a rocket accelerating at 1g in a flat spacetime? All thing…

Time is a man made measure to help us cope with the world around us. It is said that heavier gravity causes time dilation. Duh. Gravity literally slows down the components of an atom so it moves slower. The same with cooling an atom down.

Martin. Light travels at light speed. If in a single second the distance light is going to travel expands by an atom's width due to expansion of the universe, light still travels at light speed and not light speed plus an atom's width. It would have to travel at FTL speeds to stretch so does not do so. I have problems with the idea of FTL expansion as I have problems with the silly big bang idea. If you can get readings of 60c, then that is proof that the readings are misinterpreted, to say the least. iNow. In what reference point do these effects not happen? Are you now claiming that there is some way light does not experience time and that photons can contract? …

I've been wondering for a while if the things that we think control are lives such as angel or demons so to say, control what goes on in the outside world, Or is is it just us simply believing is something that we want to be true.(therfore making it true). And if this is true does anything really sincerly exist, or are we just in one big mental trip???

I'm sure a lot of you have read in popular science magazines about Libet's experiment ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Libet ) and the supposed implication regarding conscious will of acts. From the wiki. " Libet's experiments suggest unconscious processes in the brain are the true initiator of volitional acts, therefore, little room remains for the operations of free will. If the brain has already taken steps to initiate an action before we are aware of any desire to perform it, the causal role of consciousness in volition is all but eliminated. " A simple solution to this problem of a acts being initiated in advance is that the brain does a prediction of …

I believe I heard at some point and time someone saying that it was possible to travel backwards in time by traveling at a certain speed. The following are my speculations on things and I might be false in a bunch of stuff, so please bare with me on that. I'm not really all that knowledgeable in this field. Here goes: You cannot travel fast enough to go back in time because it takes time to get to where you are going. You may be able to prevent a future event by traveling at any speed to any location, but you cannot alter a past even by traveling at a speed. Moving from one place, to another place takes a time, because if something goes from one place to another, …

  15. (I think this is my first thread in speculations) This probably doesn't even count as a speculation - just something I noticed when I was helping out a friend with some intro QM. Most people know special relativity's formula for momentum, [math]p=\frac{mv}{\sqrt{1-v^2/c^2}}[/math] and that if you put in a velocity greater than c, you will get an imaginary momentum. This is usually discarded as unphysical. Physicists believe that alpha decay occurs when an alpha particle "quantum tunnels" out of a nucleus. I have included the typical simplified cartoon picture of what this looks like (yes, I drew it in paint). The dashed line in the energy of the alpha and the s…

Hi, The answer to why this effect happens is due to new thinking coming from complexquantummechanics. In classical relativity (as Einstein) there is no knowledge. What I have introduced is the concept of the distortion of space as the cuase of relativity. I think you will agree that as we approach the speed of light there will be some distortion of space. Fortunately, this distortion of space is regular and continuous. It is a small step now to suggest that the distortion of space continues at greater than light speed. The force associated with this distortion is called the F wave. Unfortunately, my yahoo group is getting filled up with lots of theory I posted but i…

Norman Albers I think there is an alternative way of explaining 'spacetime' and would like you to consider the following: there is a "spacetime fabric" There is a historical record in the form of light that travels outward from each point of light generation; the observer sees this as an unstoppable film; only the frame present when the time is ‘now’ is observable. The speed at which each frame travels is determined by the density of matter (gravitons). The speed of light is only constant in a vacuum. Because each observer is in a local gravity field, each observer sees light arriving at the same constant speed regardless of the direction from which the lig…

  18. If the universe is isotropic (according to the big bang) then where is the dark matter? It wouldn't appear to be to hard to find as it is supposed to be 95% of all matter. When I drop a pencil it falls to the floor according to the laws of physics, it doesn't fly off to the ceiling or slam into a wall manipulated by unseen stuff. No, no Wimps here in my room.

I just want to hear some opinions from the scientists here on the topic of 2012 which is pretty close, The mayans have with thier astounding mathematics were able to predict solar cycles and I think even galactic cycles around the earth, some scientists like terrance mckenna believe it will be the great shift in human consciousness other scientists believe that planet X will come close to the earths atmosphere I disrupt the balance and cause major pole shifts leading to catastrophic events, I am not sure I believe this but I would still like to hear some opinions on it.

According to the Newton's Mechanics, always: As it is known, the astronomic observations on the advance of the perihelion of planet Mercury produce a value of D = 574"./century. According to the study of L. Verierr (1835), the sum of the perturbative forces of all other planets (Venus, Earth, Mars,.. Pluto) on planet Mercury produce a value of D' = 531"./century. Thus, there is a difference of: δ = D - D' = 574''/century - 531''/century = 43''/century. L. Verierr, in his study, considered that the center of mass of the Sun and the center of mass of the Solar System coincide (namely they are in the same position). But this is wrong because these two ma…

  22. Abstract Draws attention to the fact of a methodological unreasonableness in direct comparisons of space-time parameters in two systems moving past one another with a relativistic velocity. Lorentz’s transformations are qualified in this connection as the subjective - illusory interrelations which do not have the appearance of an objective reality. Problems for an extraneous objective observer are exhibited. In total, known paradoxical absurdities are eliminated and special relativity acquires simplicity. Scales of critical attacks and remarks addressing the well-known theory of special relativity have recently acquired so imposing a scope that it is right to spea…

Heres your answer. The Gravity Time Correlation Gravity and Time are interesting subjects. Einstein actually theorized that they were an intertwined system called space-time. However I have a different theorization. Please stay with me for this. Definitions are from Dictionary.com Gravity - the force of attraction by which terrestrial bodies tend to fall towards the center of the earth. Gravitation by definition is: 1. The force of attraction between any two masses. Compare 2. An act or process caused by this force. Gravitation is the definition that is applicable to when most people use gravity in a sentence that is physics related. Gr…

Original with diagrams is attached Frank King’s goofy intuitive model of the Universe Explosions in a fluid Let’s consider the wave behavior that results in the atmosphere at sea level when an explosion occurs. (diagram Concentric circles) The explosion occurs at the dot in the diagram. Before the explosion, the air pressure is equal to one atmosphere everywhere. After the explosion, you will have three distinct pressure zones. a. This zone has atmospheric pressure less than one atmosphere b. This zone’s pressure is greater than one atmosphere c. This zone’s pressure is one atmosphere The reason for this is that the energy of the expl…

So the universe is growing if I understand things. Well maybe space would be a better word? I read up on stuff like hubble and they find the idea that the universe is accelerating because C is always constant in a vacuum right or in space at least until a medium is contacted if I have my understanding correct. We can also gauge the age of the universe to say 13.7 billions years right? Yet the age compared to the speed of light is what shows the acceleration or growth of space via things like redshift correct? I just don’t understand something. Spacetime is to warp via GR which is gravity right. So does this impact the growth at all? IS this acceleration due to effect…
