Speculations
Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.
The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:
- Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
- Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
- Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.
The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Hi, I'm new here and I'm not a scientist, mathematician or engineer. I have a few thoughts on perpetual motion machines I would like to share, and then open this to discussion. (By the way I started this exact discussion on a popular physics forum and got banned for life without explanation except to say I was a discussing "crackpot spam." I trust the forum mods here will not be so short sighted. As you will see there is nothing crack pot in a serious discussion of perpetual motion machines.) I remember back in the 1980s as a school boy learning about perpetual motion machines. The teachers said they were impossible. I have always been convinced otherwise. Laying …

I want to share my research with you here again ... Everybody does not know exactly what this mystery more ... Black Hole, after the energy of a star, a cool drink and then bend to the bend into the matter being compressed, the compression of radio-active particles and the temperature warming and activate them and the explosion is created. This formation occurs after a big explosion. The power of this explosion is powerful enough to split the atom objects. Here I want to collect the actual attention here. Atom division of ... Now, after the explosion of the object is an object of the atoms are ... After that explosion of the atom through the electron energy through t…

This may not be valid anymore but I haven't heard anything on it in years. It was determined years ago that at the very exact moment of death a small amount of weight is lost. The scientist who studied this took into account every possible physical cause they could think of as to why this should be. Someone postulated that this unaccounted for weight loss is the human soul leaving the body. I know some scientist don't believe in the existence of the human soul. What do you think this weight loss represents if not the soul? Does anyone know of further research into this?

Just a question I wanted to pose to you all. From what I can see, most if not all experiments to do with 'c' have been verified through the speeding up or slowing down of atomic clocks based on whether they are within close proximity to earth, in space, or moving relative to a stationary target on earth (no need to point out that the stationary target is not actually stationary). So is the 'c' in the equation just referring to the density of ether with specific reference to the timeframe in question, rather than the fact that a light beam will always measure 'c' to moving sensors? I think it is the former. Thinking about E=mc^2 in terms of light beams and …

Hey Guys, I joined a long while back but did not participate. I know bringing up the idea of the possibility of an intelligent designer of the universe on a science forum is not exactly a good idea. Anyway I see that it could fit into the bracket of pseudoscience So lets bounce off the topic ans see where it goes if anywhere My case (in a totally a non irreligious way) could be the exactitude of the cosmological constants, that if even one differed minutely we would never have come into existence Alan

......or what would be the greatest invention/discovery of all time ? Read on, i'm new ! Hello all, Since I was a kid i've always felt that I was going to do something great or miraculous in my life. I'm not sure what this thing is. I was never particularly interested in Science at school and to be honest it bored me rigid. Science Fiction has never been my favourite type of book r film (although I did like Asimovs 'Foundation' series). I was never very good at Maths or anything practical. I have never found mechanics or engineering very interesting (although when I have attempted anything mechanical I have found I am pretty good at it). I'm really just an…

you cannot rule out ether based on Michelson-Morley you see, ether, or what we now know as the zero point field or the sea of virtual particles is a real field... whether it's the subtlest field is anyone's guess... but think about it, how does light travel? why does gravity cause an inward force towards matter? why do magnets have an effect on the space around them? it all points to a subtle ether that electromagnetic radiation can flow through quite easily. my own belief is that matter absorbs ether and that is why mass and time depends on how much ether is available to an object to consume. atoms are like energy sinks that manifest as physical mat…

Einstein stated that mass bends space-time, and curved space-time affects mass. He did not give any mechanism by which this might occur. The following is the basis of an idea I had about twenty years ago. If the particles which provide the mass of an atom (quarks) are small enough, their density must be extremely high, perhaps high enough to act as singularities. From recent browsing, I find that this has been proposed independently. However, I suggest we can speculate further on this. Black holes are associated with wormholes. Might it be possible that each fundamental particle could act to “destroy” quanta of space time continually? I envisage these quanta wo…

There indeed are many theories about the origin of the universe. Even though the world doesn’t need another one, I do have my own ideas, as an applied scientist, about it. Via my own extended meditations, discussions and readings, I ponder if the reference frame of most scientific study (i.e. spacetime), could be reorganized such that things like velocity, spacial sense and time interval were secondary variables; a daunting prospect, in practice. Gravitons and photons travel at a speed in spacetime which, according to relativity, associates with a zero time interval t and a zero spacetime interval s. A photon, from a reference frame of the photon, does not ex…

THE ORIGIN OF OUR UNIVERSE BY SUHAIL JALBOUT The greatest mystery that provokes thought in mankind is the origin of our universe. For thousands of years, philosophers and scientists have tried to find an answer to this conundrum, but without unanimity of opinions. I believe that the initial step to understanding the origin of our universe commences by answering this question: Does void exist? The answer is mandatory to figure out what existed in space before the universe was there. If space was empty, then where did matter and energy come from? How can nothingness produce a universe? On the other hand, if matter and energy existed in space, then it is possib…

Please help me test my hypothesis against known observations and proven science. My guess is, that at the time the universe became transparent to photons the universe was small enough that a photon emitted at one end, would have been able to reach the other end, even counting for the expansion of space, within 13.7billion years. If this is true, then once two locations in space are thusly causally linked, they will not, indeed cannot, become unlinked, due to the fact that C is the speed limit of the universe, and no location or object can outrun an already arrived photon. Thus as object b receeds from a, a continues to receive b photons at lower and lower frequencies,…

I'm trying to put my figure on the nature of the experience of consciousness and the impact of death with the absolutely least number of hypothetical unknown factors - just based on what we understand about time and physics etc. My thought is: 1) right now we are conscious, and we are alive 2) before and after we exist, there is no consciousness, no measure of time or any such thing. 3) if time is just a point, such as a point in space/time there is no objective 'now' just the relative 'now' experienced by any consciousness in that moment. So really, my question is - will death have any real effect at all? It will certainly mean there are no future moments…

IS it possible to make an actual sonic screwdriver?! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_screwdriver I was thinking of a practical method in making one. I thought of buying the sonic screwdriver applying some kind of ultrasound into it. As a method of putting ultrasound in, I would get quartz ( a piezoelectric crystal) and install it within the sonic screwdriver. And then I would somehow apply an alternating current into the quartz to make it vibrate back-and-forth as to produce ultrasound. One question, how do you make alternating current from batteries? Cause batteries provide only DC current.

Imagine going beyond the stars in to deep space, travel a large distance, theres nothing stopping you traveling further forever, that's infinite space. If there is an end, lets call it a wall. How thick is this wall and what's on the other side? More space! Gafferuk, Bristol.

Is it possible to make floating cities from the concept of superconductivity? As the superconductor would exclude the external magnetic field and levitate. So this city might be able to float on our skies by having internal superconductive engines. Also if the superconductor was strong enough, it might be able to be sent into space where it can repel any space/celestial object that comes close to it. If this space object had a magnetic field of its own. I see that we have not found a superconducting material that has a high enough critical temperature for us to use it without wasting our electricity and hence money on lowering to temperature to make the superconductor…

The Theory of Dark Matter by Kevin Morais From a Zen philosophy what can matter exist in? It can exist in it’s self. Basically the space and time we exist in is created from (matter / energy) as it accelerates faster than light. In science fiction if you go faster than light you go in the past, in this theory when you accelerate matter faster than light, it produces existence for other matter to ‘exist in’. Values DM = (Dark Matter’s Mass) as it is created from regular matters (m) interaction with space time (A) A = (Space / Time) or (Space – Time - Mass), created from matter accelerating faster than light m = Matter that we know as the regular matter a…

*steadys myself for this question. Going to be some DIFFICULT MATH!* OK, so in this question, I am going to attempt to explain to you that an ever expanding universe is impossible, and that another big-bang is unavoidable! I'll do it in steps, since I grow bored easily. Astin, you can help me with this one since you know what I want to do. If anyone else wants to help with the math on this, I welcome you too, but only if you understand what im doing, and dont guess! Corrections are good too!

Reproduction of biospheres and civilizations. Our human Civilization is the constituent part of the Earth's biosphere. We will speak here about the ways of biospheres reproduction in cosmos. It is clear that the reproduction of human civilizations is the constituent and final part of more general process, - the reproduction of biospheres. But is that possible? Let's try to answer the following questions, at first, and after, we'll try to make some conclusions, according to scientific definitions and observations. Is our biosphere a living organism? Or, is it superorganism? Is human a living organism or a living superorganism? Biosphere[1]. The concept…
