Well i'm learning Java in school at an agonizingly low pace, and was just wondering if you guys had a favorite website or two with some good tutorials/lessons for Java. Also, why cant java be used like a .exe? I hate having to install software on every computer just to get my programs to work.

Hey, time for you to help me fix the computer again. Sorry. I do tend to do this a lot don't any. Anyway, today's subject: the mouse. A few things I've noticed recently: 1) The cursor can shake on the screen every once in a while. It's almost as though I'm violently shaking the mouse back and forth,the cursor doesn't move more than a few pixels though. It's just violently shaking and I'm not even touching the mouse. 2) The bigger problem. The cursor can randomly jump to different areas of the screen. Hello, I play some computer games online and i thought i was relatively safe until there was a guy who was able to get my exact ip address while i was playing yesterday and he kicked me out of the game itself(i was playing Halo PC online)!! I have stopped playing right now, but i would like to know how to protect myself from these 'hacks'. Plus..how was he able to get my ip address:confused:??? Just out of sheer curiosity, I was wondering what kindof setup people had in their homes (just a single computer, small network, etc). My main computer is a P4 3ghz, which I dual boot with Windoze 2000 (for games) and linux (for everything else) running kernel 2.6.5 under a gentoo distribution. I heard of this thing where you can use a skip search through the bible and find some weird stuff. Skip search is where you skip a constant number of characters. The weird kind of stuff is like skip searching for Hussein and finding "gulf war" and "enemy" next to it. I don't remember his name, but he claims it exists. Then mathematicians, who were skeptics, did made their own skip search programs and found it worked. The thing that puzzles me, however, is how it would work with other languages. Just a second ago Firefox started acting weird, not going to any of the links I clicked. So I got out and tried to open it, and it asked me to choose a profile. I hit "default" but it said that was in use(?) and so I made a new one. Now all of my settings and extensions and links are gone. WHAT DO I DO TO GET THEM BACK? I have version 9.0.

I am trying to install a game which need FirectX 9.0 support. Unfortunately, my display card does not support 9.0, it comes to 8.1 only. What's the consequence if I install 9.0 for my computer in order to play that game? Will the speed of playing some 8.1 or lower needed decrease? Sincerely hope for your answer

Why in the world does it take adobe reader over a minute to open a one page document?! I don't get it. Why do people put up with this? Why is every singe data sheet I have ever come across on adobe reader? Why do people choose adobe as a format for their file when putting it in any other format would be sooo much easier on everybody? What is so great about acrobat? I find it harder to read then other documents. The ONLY time its helpful it when it s huge document and the chapters are listed on the side. So what’s the big secret? What am I missing out on here?

Has anyone heard of an os called knoppix/used it/is using it? My old computer really screwed up, and I partitioned the Hard Drive, but made the partitioned side without windows the primary one, and consequently, I can not format the hard drive, but thats another story. I have a copy of knoppix on disk, and my old computer only has one CD Drive, so I don't know how to install any disk software. If anyone can help on this, again, as always, it would be appreciated. I tried to connect to the internet thismorning from my laptop, however, It was not successful The problem is that when I double click an icon nothing happens, I get the little sand timer cursor to show that its trying to do something, but then it goes back to the normal cursor and nothing happens. I tried opening things through the start menu (which I can still access) but the same thing happens. I can access the task manager with the normal method of Ctrl Alt Del, but not by right clicking the taskbar at the bottom. Bit torrent worked fine upto now. If you use azureus u will know what i am talking about. the little smiley health indicator next to the torrent names. They are always stuck at yellow instead of green nowdays. I have forwarded all the appropriate ports. (6969 and 6881-6999) and enabled uPnP port mapping in my router. nothing seems to be working.
