What do you think is a normal human? You psychiatrists and big pharma seemed to want half the U.S. population doped up. Also some of these meds cause weight gain. I would prefer to see less overweight females. I prefer cheerleaders not fat feminists!

  3. Some months back I was was daydreaming and I encounted some people that notified me that I had a ten foot long arm. I politely looked over and saw a strangely artistic blue ten foot long arm. Such a situation raises a few curious questions. For instance, how do I apply such a characterization? If someone described me as ornery, I can shrug that off and work with it, throughout the day. If someone suggested that I go hiking, I might consider that. A ten foot long arm however is a more thorny matter. I wasn't quite sure where to put the thing. In the end I decided to just have a quirky category and leave it there for a while. I also consider the assistance of morphism, wher…

  4. Hoping this doesn't come off as an aggressive creationist "If evolution is true, then why am I such a good person?" post. I'm an agnostic atheist. I believe that morality is like science or math--already there, waiting to be discovered through trial, error, and hard thinking. I want to know if there's some evolutionary evidence which explains why people usually have consciences. Is it because not murdering fellow members of your race tends to improve your species' ability to continue existing? Or social self-preservation, since consciences are largely rooted in cultural values? What circumstances might have made having a conscience beneficial for survival? Are other intel…

  5. Some people have very obvious addictive personality's. You can tell when a person has a highly addictive personality when they are constantly addicted to something. There is some people who get hooked to anything or have the same constant addictions and its impossible to break these people. There is some people who will go from being addicted to drugs, to smokables(anything you can smoke), to drinking, to hand held games. Which proves while these substances and things might have addictive qualities some people just have issues with addiction within themselves. High Stimulation: Very addictive There is some people who simply never do and lack the kind of stimulat…

  7. Why do we prefer smart attire? A suit with a tie and shoes to match. Jeans with a trendy tee-shirt and sneakers to match. How do marketing companies capture the public sentiment so well in their adverts ? Why do we look down on people who dress slovenly ? Why is ragged attire not the norm (not discounting hygeine, of course) ? Any pointers ?

  8. Obviously we can't know for sure unless someone actually investigates this, which to the best of my knowledge has never been done, but I'm curious of what everyone's opinion about this is. I'm sure many of you have heard of Stanley Milgram's famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective) shock experiment, so I won't bother explaining it, but suffice to say I was absolutely horrified by the results and am quite confident that I would never take it the whole way like the majority of participants did. But after watching a documentary about a reenactment (I can't remember the proper word for when someone repeats an experiment) of the experiment, I thought of an interesti…

  10. Why do we automatically associate men with the color blue and women with pink and not vice versa ? Is it due to inherited traits and is it superficial or something of deeper import ? Does it reflect patterns of thought processes in either gender ? Is it linked to XY chromosomal dominance, in that higher frequencies are more popular with the "martian" gender ? Please advise.

  11. I thought I might make a diversion from the spam. It's not an unreasonable idea that Earth's seasons may result in some links between birth month and psychological traits. What investigation has been done into this? I would have read this paper if it were free. Perinatal photoperiod imprints the circadian clock (Ciarleglio, Axley, Strauss, Gamble, McMahon, 2010) An idea of my own is that, since depressed people are less interested in sex, people with inherited seasonal depression might tend to be concieved during the sunnier months.

  12. A quote from Carl Jung on the subject of "masks": The persona, for Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, was the social face the individual presented to the world"a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual". One wonders what Jung would have thought about the masks created by these veterans, as their intent in creating them was to reveal, rather than to conceal, aspects of their true nature as individuals. I have a problem. When my daughter was born there was NEVER (not an exaggeration) a time when she didn't need comfort/picked up. She spends 90% (not an exaggeration), of her time sreeching and wrything around like she is in pain. When I made her pediatrician aware of this he said it's a phase that she'll grow out of eventually, just make sure she is not hurt/wet/hungry/bored/lonely or psysically annoyed (tight clothing, hair wrapped around toes etc...), then if the sreeching continues to put her down and let her cry it out. She is now 15 months old and it has not stopped, in fact her behaviour has become more dangerous and alarming. Now she hits people including herself …

Hi guys I'm convinced that there's a psychological term, or there should be, for some sort of amical bond, formed between a individuals in a group of people, all suddenly sharing a temporarily, serious problem, a common threat (think of hostages; or people at a bus stop witnessing a disaster or experiencing one (in this case, it's perhaps also interesting to notice that this group might stay toghether without forming the same bond with other 'groups' like this one; it's an instinctive thought I have, but I might be very wrong; cf. horror movies with zombie apocalypses and some groups of people still fighting each other); or people in a hijacked plane; or even less thr…

  16. By correctly I mean how to react in a way which makes people feel secure. I tend to have the type of behavior that absolutely no one can read. There is a number of reasons why I developed this behavior but this is generally how I behave with others. I am exceedingly polite offline as well. However been told I come across as very cold even when I am being polite. So I wanted to know if there is a book that would teach you to behave correctly in each given situation which will make people a little more happy with you? Since I dont really have any kind of reaction I tend to generally mimic others and assume that is the correct response. I am trying to retrain myself. Is ther…

  17. Or is it an elaborated scam ? Does charism play any role with hypnosis ? Can relevant historical events as from charismatic leaders change/re-route behavior and beliefs of populations permanently ? When young, witnessed a serious relative hypnotizing someone. Still in my retina. But always kept an 'agnostic' feeling. If there is science; a perfect replication of the hypnotizing 'process' should always work... Could then a 'machine' as a computer program do it consistently ?

I'm posting this because I'm hoping against hope that this is a known obscure disorder, because I don't know what to do any more. This is a very odd problem I have and hopefully I can make it understandable This started around the time I started highschool, I'm in college now. I'm shy and have problems being myself in social interactions, but this is not my problem, my problem is that the attitude I took towards this at the beginning of high school is that, and this is going to sound very odd and hard to understand perhaps, but that I can't live until I've solved this problem. What I mean by can't live is that everything I do in life, every moment of my every …

  21. The link between a stronger Christian identity (among americans?) and various prejudices is well established, but there's also what happened under the USSR's state atheism. Could nationalism mediate the relationship? Only studies I found regarding nationalism and prejudice, but neither tell the results. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24003580 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19580560 Any relevant resources would be much appreciated!

Im doing an essay on human isolation, and I need some help in writing it. All I need is your comments and ideas. When I say human isolation, I mean a complete isolation from humans, rite after birth till death. What will it do to this human? His instincts, his mind, his movements, will it be any different than our own? Will this human act like our ancesters? The effects on this human when its a baby (nobody to learn off of) Will he know how to express his feelings? (facial expressions) If he even knows how. And effects during teenage and adulthood. Will puberty hit sooner or later compared to us? How would he be different? Physically and mentally. And what will happe…

  23. Hi all, This is my first post. I am seeking help in a particular issue related to zone or flow states. I will explain the background first I have had the 'zone' or 'flow' experience on a number of occasions while playing tennis. For those who do not know what this means, it is a state of almost self-less play which is effortless, fearless (no worries about point, game, etc.) and is very fluid. You can see further information here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_%28psychology%29 While trying to figure out if it can be replicated at will, I searched various websites (through Google, of course). Most of them dealt with how to 'attain' it through consc…

So, i've had this since my childhood and i don't have any idea how it occurs aside from whenever i focus on a blank area for too long, say a computer screen or a wall, things start to get faster..? I feel like i move faster than the rest of the things, my senses seem to slow down but everything else seems to get faster and then i feel kinda dizzy, after about 5 or 10 minutes it passes by itself. My mother said that when i was a child, this occured way too often. Nowadays, it seems like it has shrank but once in a while i still get this feeling. I really want to know what this is all about. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. And sorry for my broken english,…
