Most of you are familiar with the movie Interstellar ft. Matthew McConaughey. The scene I would like to discuss is when Romilly (David Gyasi) waited in the ship while the other members flew down to the planet to observe it. When the crew came back to the ship they were gone for what seemed a couple of hours, but for Romilly they were gone for 23 years. This is a big if, but what would Romilly see if he could spot the crew members from below. Would they be moving slower since time is different in the ship and on the planet? I'm not sure I posted this in the correct section, but I couldn't find anywhere else to put it.

Salute to everyone. As layman I would kindly like to inquire beginner books to read with respect to the Large Hadron Collider as well as Physics. Im rather terrible in Physics but nurture an undying love for it. So my quest starts with reading as well as completing the academic book "Advanced Physics by Steve Adams" Any advice is welcome counting books as well. My thanks and gratitude to you. Sincerely _tfk_

This OP is a Simple Question but I request the Scientists to bear with me to express some additional views while I await their answers. If the Universe had started at a particular instance and neutrons are such particles which can not be destroyed or created all of them should have the same age. By age if a reference point in time is indicated what is that ? Also what has caused the current dispersal and distances between all these neutrons ? If not and if so all these neutrons had always existed then too if they are neither created nor destroyed all must have the same Time of Existence !

Frame dragging is a very specific example of rotating spacetime. Are there any other examples that have been theorized or proven? The specific example that comes to mind is the effect of a rotating massive disk on local spacetime. For example, the rings of Saturn might cause a local rotation in the spacetime surrounding the planet and that this rotation interacts with adjacent non-rotating space in order to create unexplained high winds along the equator of the planet's surface. I often have difficulty when researching things like this because it isn’t much talked about, and if it has been explored then it usually goes under some obscure name that makes it even mor…

There a thing I do not understand (actually a lott of things), a photon is a piece of energy traveling at the speed of light ? Does that mean that a photon keeps getting more energy because he is travelling at the speed of light ? [latex] E = mc^{2} [/latex] (Pleas correct me if I am saying anything wrong)

To quote Wiki: Different forms of: Ok, so my question is whether this effect occurs on a planetary surface as well? What about underground? There is a Gravity Probe experiment underway which involves the launching of satellites into orbit in order to measure the tiny effect with the use of gyroscopes, but this will only measure the effect in near space and not on the surface or underground.

How do you define exactly what energy is? Is it merely a wave resonating in a vacuum at it's simplest form? How many types of energy is there that we know of?

Dear reader of this topic, I was wondering what would happen if a photon gives his energy to a proton or a neutron in a atom. (Imagine that a photon would come across a single atom in space for example and he would miss the elektrons) Would the balance of the protons and neutrons disturb and what would happen next ? (Please correct me if I am saying anything wrong)

Common sense tells us this is a one way street. Are there any sensible theories as to regions in time or space where this might not be true?If so are there any theoretical tests (thought experiments?) that might allow one to show this one way or the other. I am not suggesting that such a " reversal of causation" could be in any way possible but wonder if anything has been said on the subject as I have not really read much about the subject

I wanted to experiment with "alternating polarization" of electromagnetic radiation. It is my belief that strange effects will occur if you can alternate the polarization of a microwave at the same frequency of the wave. I mean to say that if you take a microwave who's frequency is X and you alternate the polarization of that wave at a rate of X you should twist the wave in a strange way that may give rise to unusual properties. (see picture below) I will use the attached picture to explain myself in a simple way What you see in the picture below is a representation of my "APE" wave, an "Alternating Polarization Emission" wave. in order to make such a wave you mus…

I was having problems figuring out the right language to describe the details of my theory that unites all the forces, and needed to know acceptable language to describe my theory. I did this by posting the rough draft here, and learning language through the comments. The theory doesn't need mathematical equasions to prove it. IT'S A THEORY. My theory predicts magnetic feilds around black holes, and why energy is quantized. I am not interested in condemnation of the theory by egotistical college educated people who are blinded by their own education while waving their degrees, or do I have the patience for them. I have posted a finished version for anyone who is intereste…

Think of a body moving as in Newton's first law - in a straight line at a fixed speed say. I have been wondering where is the information for the body to "know" how to move? One could argue that the motion itself is the "information", but that is somewhat unsatisfactory from an information theory point of view. I understand that information theory is being suggested as a possible way of looking at fundamental physics, so my question might be relevant, even though I am only a novice student of theoretical physics.

This is a question pertaining to a variation of the double slit experiment. If you were to manipulate the light from a source to bend before it passed through the slit, an observer would not be aware that the light had originated from an indirect line of sight. Is it possible to create this scenario, but before the energy passed through the slit, remove the catalyst for the manipulation, also only allowing it to be observed after the removal? Under these circumstances, could it be possible to manipulate the origin, (due to the removal of a discrete possibility prior to the observation) to conform to the linear perception of it rather than the actual one?

Wouldn't a spherically contained bose-einstein condensate, rotated about the z, or up and down axis form tori, first by forming vertical vortices, and due to centripetal acceleration cause the up and down vortices to oscillate. Where several neighboring vortices cross around a central up and down vortex, in a small section of the up and down, their intersection would form a torus, with smaller vortex threading through it. As well, couldn't they form on a bias around a central, so the tori can as well propagate along curves deviating away from the up and down direction. You can consider a cross section of a vortex to be the 2d cross section of a 3d horn torus, although …

For anyone who's interested, I stumbled across this during the weekend: https://cquest-studygroup.wikispaces.com/file/view/A+First+Course+in+String+Theory.pdf I'm finding it very clear, very informative, and very enjoyable. Maybe it just happens to be at just the right "level" for me, given my prior knowledge. I just thought there might be others out there it would be suitable for as well. So, hope it's helpful to some folks!

Have there been any breakthroughs on discovering how to negate or control gravity yet? We know that gravity are waves that are sent out from a mass. The greater the mass the greater the pull of gravity. You would have to be able to control the strength of those waves somehow to move freely above the mass. If UFO's do exist then they have the ability to use and control it. I am not a scientist which is why I asked this question.

For some reason this thought popped into my head the other day and I figured I'd post it here. Thought experiment... -You have a string that is 5 light years in length -It it stretched taut (no slack) -You have a person sitting at each end of the string (A and B) -Person A tugs the string at one end, and the other end of the string at point B is immediately observed to move by person B -Did information (the fact that the string was pulled) travel faster than light in this case?

Hi all, I am hoping to make a model Space Shuttle, and need help with what to use for propellants I have always been interested in space, and aim to become an Astronaut. I wish to study rocket science and aerodynamics, and making this would help me Currently, this is all theory, and has been put on paper, but I am here to ask what I should use for propellant. I am only hoping for it to go a max of 10m high, and am currently planning on using 5 cans. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I could use that is easy to obtain and has a lower risk of exploding? Thanks

I have a thing going on with the whereabouts of electrons in atoms and how they bond to form molecules, so when I read something surprising like this, I chase it hoping to get a little more insight into the subject. "Both single electrons now become paired and share the overlapping energy levels i.e. they can now also move in the energy level of the electron from the other atom so they can now move around each nuclei. However, most of the time they are found in the region between both nuclei as they are attracted by both nuclei." They are talking for almost specific (?) electrons being at specific region around the atom. Where such findings are coming from. Are these…
