I think Ricky's the third mouse (It could be argued that Ricky isn't even the lazy mouse, all he does is take the piss out of farmer's...), in that he's the problem. If we're to last out the century we need to embrace the lazy mouse, not just accept them. A job for the sake of a job doesn't make sense in the context of an economy that's clearly unsustainable; one countries unilateral decision to be good and play nice is never going to work when the hungry mouse is still hungry, eventually they will just try and steal the food, by killing the industrious mouse; instead of spending all that money, time and effort defending, more food than we can eat. If we want a balanced sustainable society/economy, don't pressgang the lazy into work because "the lazy" will always find a way; and being lazy doesn't mean they have nothing to contribute, even if it's only being a friend. Isn't that a little too late?

I'm not being a doom-merchant here, I think we are capable (For instance, this current emergency (pandemic) has taught us that our economy is capable of dealing with a change of circumstances, while simultaneously demonstrating our propensity to act too late.) Should we feed "the lazy mouse"?

The point I'm trying to make (badly) is, first we have to understand the simple explanation, before we delve into the minutiae of the complications; so my argument is, the further science delves the farther it gets from the edge of the razor. So if only a few can delve so deep, modern science is by definition blunting the edge of understanding, for the rest of us and so promote the very member's you seek to disavow. But then I never suggested it is always reliable, An elegant answer, is more pleasing; it doesn't have to be correct to inspire understanding.

You seem to be arguing against your premise in the OP, since you placed the question in the "general philosophy" forum. Scientifically, the razor is almost always valid, because it can be reduced to a binary question; that's seldom true in life...

I think the OP has a point though, perhaps not when applied to science but philosophically speaking; the more complicated our world becomes, the more we resort to a simple explanation i.e. the elite's are trying to make it complicated. And that blunts our/most people's understanding. I think the philosophy behind the intention/knife edge applies to anyone who wants to actually understand this world/universe; and how many of us actually want's that, rather than the simplest explaination as to why I shouldn't even try?
