  1. Whereas others find the human tendency to see patterns where none actually exist and to draw false conclusions based on their limited exposure to the evidence landscape IS the simplest explanation.
  2. I’ve been interpreting that 2nd part as “we need to end racism.” Where is my interpretation inaccurate? We ALL would like that, but it seems that only SOME of us see that as pollyannish or as unworkable, impossible, and almost useless to even attempt.
  3. I see. Thank you. I believe there is not a single path which won’t lead some yahoos to feel MORE racist if reparations move forward. Therefore, I accept that some marginal increase in racism will happen and that it’s an acceptable risk given the overwhelming benefit reparations would provide. The tangible widespread benefits IMO far outweigh the small potential (even likely) social cost.
  4. Ugh… It’s happened again! Another trans person… using the natural advantages of their biology went ahead and changed sex and beat another cis gendered person in competition. Why do we allow this to persist!?! https://gayexpress.co.nz/2023/06/worlds-first-trans-male-boxer-wins-third-fight-over-cis-man/ Born female
  5. Reading this in context, it appears you thought my position was that we SHOULDN’T seek to end racism and racist policies moving forward and that we should instead ONLY focus on reparations? This is how you’ve perceived my stance in this thread, is that correct? That I want reparations but also for racism and racist policies to persist?
  6. Makes sense. Why did you think I needed this explained to me?
  7. It definitely did and likely still does. Doctors in the US were given huge bonuses by some pharmaceutical giants for prescribing more of a specific medication they produced and this exasperated the issue of opioid addition in the US
  8. What, you mean the DeSantis controlled private army that he tripled in size despite the lack of obvious need or reason? Nah… nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
  9. Or to ensure Putin and the Saudis and whomever else appoint him to be the figurehead of whatever extremist new world order they’re trying to buildout and supersede / circumvent local governance /NWOconspiracy /thisisbiggerthanUSA
  10. In this case, we were discussing the elimination of racist thought so let’s stick with that There are better systemic approaches to dealing with homelessness than chunking a few bucks randomly their way. We’re talking about reparations for systemic racism in the past though, and that’s clearly a different subject. That’s part of the desired outcome, but is more of a stretch goal and isn’t the primary objective. It might assist in preventing new injuries but does nothing to heal existing past injuries (as we’ve already mentioned about 174 times already in this thread).
  11. This likely won’t happen before the 2024 presidential election. His lawyers will throw all sand and wrenches possible into the gears of justice to slow things down.
  12. No doubt. New weapon in the fight like when iPhone came out. Changed stuff we didn’t even realize could be changed.
  13. I need more data before joining you in that conclusion Well… That narrows it down quite a bit.
  14. The right would say the same thing and cite global mask and vaccine response to Covid as their reason.
  15. We all use heuristics. In that regard, you’re not wrong https://asana.com/resources/heuristics#
  16. Perhaps that was once true, but I don’t think it is anymore. Surely exceptions exist, but in terms of median behavior it seems to me that folks vote for the candidate who hates the same enemies / respects the same values they do. If legislative output and laws in their self interest were deciding factors, Biden and Obama would both have been far more popular.
  17. Interesting aside: There are technically three (3) Florida guys running for the GOP primary right now: 1. Former (45th) President of the US, Donald John Trump, junior 2. Current Governor of the US State of Florida, Ron tiny D DeSantis 3. Current Mayor of the city of Miami, Florida USA, Francis Xavier Suarez Pretty sure only that last one has wrestled a real life honest to goodness Florida gator though, and that those other two are pretty much just overcompensating insecure pansy asses.
  18. Yes, but… Any empty suit would do (see also Ron DeSantis and that nationalist Indian business guy). Sprinkle in some Saudi Funding, Russian/Chinese social narrative engineering, and Hillbilly Elegy campaign energy… voila! Your next POTUS.
  19. Many people take apple cider vinegar pills
  20. All help is welcome, but you seem however to be suggesting we don’t even need barns and should instead focus on wishing the rains away.
  21. That’s surely part of it, but as I said Trumpism will remain even if Trump disappears. The grievance politics are as old as time. Fearing the woke mob taking away freedoms or guns, believing others want them to apologize for being white, refusing to accept transgenderism, election results, or feeling that the system is rigged and they haven’t been given a fair shake. “It’s YOUR fault that MY life’s not better!!” Trump may have amplified a previously quiet set of militias and KKK membership, but those folks have always been there and don’t ever seem to go away. They just used to be quieter. Now, they’ve have been given a permission structure to say whatever they really think openly, out loud in public, and without shame. None of that ends when Trump is gone, and in fact it’ll probably be worse moving forward with all of the bubbled and closed off information ecosystems and disinformation lattices.
  22. Details matter. Ball bearings or big buses? Brushed finish or mirror finish? Thousands of units per minute or one unit per week? There’s no “one right way”
  23. I reckon I’m just tired trying to erect all these GD barns by my GD self
