Today I Learned
Today I learned that the fake snow, used on the set of 'The Wizard Of Oz' was actually fluffy Asbestos fibers. Veritasium just dropped another video on the history, use, dangers, and attempts to regulate the use of Asbestos. These are my favorite kinds of videos produced by Veritasium. Turns out the spray-on insulation protecting the steel structure of the World Trade Center buildings was impregnated with Asbestos, which was then pulverized in those huge dust clouds, as the buildings came down. To this date, more than twice as many people have died from 'asbestosis' ( pulmonary fibrosis related to Asbestos exposure ) and related cancers, than in the original event, from simply breathing the resulting dust.

Human brain could stay conscious 'hours after death'
Standard First Aid training teaches that the brain can survive ( in various states ) up to 4 minutes without oxygenated blood flow. Any longer, without re-setting the heart with a defibrillator, or manually pumping with CPR, is usually useless.

It could be you...
For a deeper dive into how the probability of a state depends on the number of allowed microstates, see the first part of this video. The rest of it goes on to describe how the 'arrow of time' emerges, from an estimation of the early universe's entropy, compared to the possible maximal entropy.

Probability amplitudes, coeffecients and wave function collapse.
A very useful mathematical tool. ( as are all other theories which portend to describe the workings of 'reality' ) What is the matter with the SFn servers lately ? They are extremely slow to respond and sign in. And just now, caused a doubled post.

Chemical that contaminates rivers...
The 'forever chemical mentioned by KJW, PFSA, was the topic of an excellent Veritasium video. Check it out for pertinent information

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
I don't have a problem with women being 'promiscuous'. Why are men allowed to be 'promiscuous' but women are not? Why have double standards ? And why the assumption that being 'promiscuous' means consent ?

Probability amplitudes, coeffecients and wave function collapse.
There is no reality until an observation/interaction is made. You, nor anyone else, can prove otherwise. Think about it ...

It could be you...
Ooops ... Forgot the 6 factoral when editing my last post. I guess we have it a little better with only 49 numbers to choose from, but the average prize is only 5 Million Canadian ( not real dollars ) in 'Lotto 6/49' lottery.
-
It could be you...
Actually ... The chance of winning or losing is 1/2 ; you either win, or you lose. The probability of winning by choosing the correct 6 numbers out of 49 choices is 6! / ( 49 - 6 )! which is approximately 1 in 14 Million. ( x-posted with String junky and Sensei )

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
It should also be pointed out that most of these now grown women are not coming forward and identifying their molesters, or Epstein, because of what happened to him. Why would they endanger themselves in interviews ? Why do you think that G Maxwell is serving 20 years ( albeit in in a resort setting rather than a jail cell, thanks to Trump's lawyers in the DOJ ) rather than naming names ? Do you really think there was a 2 minute glitch in the jail video recorder, or that the security guards happened to be sleeping during those 2 minutes, so he could commit suicide during those 2 exact minutes ?

Probability amplitudes, coeffecients and wave function collapse.
I would go one step further than the other members; not only is the wave function NOT real, but there is no actual reality until an observation/interaction is made to collapse the wave function. This concept is called 'no local realism' and is an alternate ( and preferable' explanation for entanglement than 'non locality'. As a scientist, I defer to the evidence. Varying outcomes can occurr, but they are not random. The preferred outcome is still governed by scientific principles , like Least Action.

It could be you...
The math is not very complicated; it involves factorals, depending on the quantity of numbers to choose, and the quantity ti choose from. I do play the lottery, but I've heard it best described as a tax on the poor.

I can dress warmly. But what do you do when your government shoots you in the face, or throws you in a van before shipping you off to El Salvador ?

Probability amplitudes, coeffecients and wave function collapse.
Probability Amplitudes are an interpretation of wave function information, and are complex valued numbers which, when squared and MOD, represent the actual probability of an event. Similarly, Wave Function collapse is interpreted as the mathematical process of extracting information from the wave function by applying an operator, which usually corresponds to an observable. The resultant eigenvalue generally corresponds to a new state. No one ( except kooks and cranks ) ever involve consciousness in the discussion.

Not really a problem, but, more importantly, why would anyone go to Florida for their honeymoon ? So, is Netflix you preferred choice for News ?

Failed supernova provides clearest view yet of a star collapsing into a black hole
But it does for a 'far-away' observer, as we would be, watching the stellar collapse in Andromeda. Is that what you meant, Dim ?

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
I will agree with @Sensei that the Epstein case is all over the News simply because of the connections with, and the efforts to obfuscate, by D Trump and his Administration. After all, D Trump, and anything related to him, is always in the news; not because he's a great statesman, but because he's a 'train-wreck', and every one wants to watch. However, I fail to see how a Netflix documentary from 6 years ago, is accurate, but the 6 year old news it is based on is falsified information, all the while disregarding the Trump Administration machinations to bury all additional information, which still isn't forthcoming. What exactly, are they trying to hide ???

Hard work only gets you so far. Nobody ever got as filthy rich as these guys by having morals.

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
Funny how the DOJ and their employer ( they are D Trump's law firm ) are attempting to throw everyone else under the bus by releasing e-mail about Democrats, scientists, tech leaders, and other wealthy individuals, while conveniently ignoring the thousands and thousands of times D Trump is mentioned; even after the lies about having severed contact with J Epstein. D Trump, and MAGA, originally weaponized the Epstein file to generate outrage against Democrats and other wealthy individuals to shore up support from their base, but when that outrage demanded the release of the files, they have been scrambling ever since, to deny, deflect and misdirect with outrageous ( or stupid, like invading Greenland ) actions and proposals. A recent news story came out regarding Epstein's ties to V Putin and the KGB, since the 80s, which I thought was pretty far fetched ( from the Daily Mail, after all ) Newly unmasked evidence shows who put Trump in the White House | Opinion but mounting evidence seems to back it up Report: Epstein helped Russia get damaging information on Western elites Trump defends Putin after Russia allegedly broke truce America's most dangerous woman still serves Trump — and it's not Kristi Noem | Opinion

What Youtube videos are you watching now or have you watched recently?
The 'S#!t on a Shingle' video is interesting. I remember being told a story about an American tank group in WW2 France, who came to a potato field, and decided they wanted some roast potatoes or French Fries. Having no oil to cook them in, they decided to use Tank engine oil. Not sure how the potatoes tasted, but they all had the s#!ts for days.

Planet 9 from Outer Space
I was under the impression E Wood used footage of B Lugosi from another unfinished film after the actor's death. "It also posthumously bills Bela Lugosi (before Lugosi's death in August 1956, Wood had shot silent footage of Lugosi for another, unfinished film, which was inserted into Plan 9" Plan 9 from Outer Space - Wikipedia

Madhouse Politics and Green Energy - Solutions please.
The main discriminator for the pumped/reservoir approach, as compared to the large flywheel approach, seems to be the efficiency of the pumps compared to the efficiency of the flywheel bearings. Those are the primary 'loss' mechanisms for either system. Does anyone have relevant 'ballpark' figures, and how they scale ? ( personally, and without evidence, I favor the pumping/reservoir approach )

Planet 9 from Outer Space
This is interesting but nowhere near as good as 'Plan 9 From Outer Space', the 1957 movie with B Lugosi and directed by E Wood.

Everything is Foreign Relations to Trump
I would make the argument that D Trump, and members of his administration, have no clue about foreign relations, and I think the American electorate, members of Congress and the Senate are beginning to realize that. The Greenland fiasco, and Trump's insults about NATO contribution to the Afghan war effort ( the only time Article 5 was ever invoked; for NATO aid to the US after 9/11, without asking ) demonstrate the scope of their stupidity. I just don't understand why the analysts, planners and strategists in the Pentagon aren't pushing back against the destruction of a support network they have built over the last 80-100 years. It is rather lengthy, but Perun offers a valuable ( if only Trump and his administration would watch it ) analysis ... Or as Michael Shurkin from Pax Americana said ( I paraphrase ) ... "Once you put a gun down on a negotiating table, it ceases to be a diplomatic negotiation; it becomes a threat, and will not be forgotten"
