Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
I can dress warmly. But what do you do when your government shoots you in the face, or throws you in a van before shipping you off to El Salvador ?

Probability amplitudes, coeffecients and wave function collapse.
Probability Amplitudes are an interpretation of wave function information, and are complex valued numbers which, when squared and MOD, represent the actual probability of an event. Similarly, Wave Function collapse is interpreted as the mathematical process of extracting information from the wave function by applying an operator, which usually corresponds to an observable. The resultant eigenvalue generally corresponds to a new state. No one ( except kooks and cranks ) ever involve consciousness in the discussion.

Not really a problem, but, more importantly, why would anyone go to Florida for their honeymoon ? So, is Netflix you preferred choice for News ?

Failed supernova provides clearest view yet of a star collapsing into a black hole
But it does for a 'far-away' observer, as we would be, watching the stellar collapse in Andromeda. Is that what you meant, Dim ?

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
I will agree with @Sensei that the Epstein case is all over the News simply because of the connections with, and the efforts to obfuscate, by D Trump and his Administration. After all, D Trump, and anything related to him, is always in the news; not because he's a great statesman, but because he's a 'train-wreck', and every one wants to watch. However, I fail to see how a Netflix documentary from 6 years ago, is accurate, but the 6 year old news it is based on is falsified information, all the while disregarding the Trump Administration machinations to bury all additional information, which still isn't forthcoming. What exactly, are they trying to hide ???

Epstein files reveal deeper ties to scientists than previously known.
Funny how the DOJ and their employer ( they are D Trump's law firm ) are attempting to throw everyone else under the bus by releasing e-mail about Democrats, scientists, tech leaders, and other wealthy individuals, while conveniently ignoring the thousands and thousands of times D Trump is mentioned; even after the lies about having severed contact with J Epstein. D Trump, and MAGA, originally weaponized the Epstein file to generate outrage against Democrats and other wealthy individuals to shore up support from their base, but when that outrage demanded the release of the files, they have been scrambling ever since, to deny, deflect and misdirect with outrageous ( or stupid, like invading Greenland ) actions and proposals. A recent news story came out regarding Epstein's ties to V Putin and the KGB, since the 80s, which I thought was pretty far fetched ( from the Daily Mail, after all ) Newly unmasked evidence shows who put Trump in the White House | Opinion but mounting evidence seems to back it up Report: Epstein helped Russia get damaging information on Western elites Trump defends Putin after Russia allegedly broke truce America's most dangerous woman still serves Trump — and it's not Kristi Noem | Opinion

The 'S#!t on a Shingle' video is interesting. I remember being told a story about an American tank group in WW2 France, who came to a potato field, and decided they wanted some roast potatoes or French Fries. Having no oil to cook them in, they decided to use Tank engine oil. Not sure how the potatoes tasted, but they all had the s#!ts for days.

Planet 9 from Outer Space
I was under the impression E Wood used footage of B Lugosi from another unfinished film after the actor's death. "It also posthumously bills Bela Lugosi (before Lugosi's death in August 1956, Wood had shot silent footage of Lugosi for another, unfinished film, which was inserted into Plan 9" Plan 9 from Outer Space - Wikipedia

Madhouse Politics and Green Energy - Solutions please.
The main discriminator for the pumped/reservoir approach, as compared to the large flywheel approach, seems to be the efficiency of the pumps compared to the efficiency of the flywheel bearings. Those are the primary 'loss' mechanisms for either system. Does anyone have relevant 'ballpark' figures, and how they scale ? ( personally, and without evidence, I favor the pumping/reservoir approach )

Planet 9 from Outer Space
This is interesting but nowhere near as good as 'Plan 9 From Outer Space', the 1957 movie with B Lugosi and directed by E Wood.

Everything is Foreign Relations to Trump
I would make the argument that D Trump, and members of his administration, have no clue about foreign relations, and I think the American electorate, members of Congress and the Senate are beginning to realize that. The Greenland fiasco, and Trump's insults about NATO contribution to the Afghan war effort ( the only time Article 5 was ever invoked; for NATO aid to the US after 9/11, without asking ) demonstrate the scope of their stupidity. I just don't understand why the analysts, planners and strategists in the Pentagon aren't pushing back against the destruction of a support network they have built over the last 80-100 years. It is rather lengthy, but Perun offers a valuable ( if only Trump and his administration would watch it ) analysis ... Or as Michael Shurkin from Pax Americana said ( I paraphrase ) ... "Once you put a gun down on a negotiating table, it ceases to be a diplomatic negotiation; it becomes a threat, and will not be forgotten"

Today I Learned
Not from a book, but online news, today I learned that I don't much care for the English Royal Family, which allowed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ( and his ex-wife ) to lead a privileged and unaccountable lifestyle, harming innocents for their own gratification. Nor do I care for Norway's Royal Family. Or, for that matter, the self-proclaimed American King, D J Trump.

I believe I've already told you about the baby tiger that my niece had for about a year. Before she became a magician at the Greg Frewin Theater, she was part of the act and choreographer, and G Frewin included tigers into his stage act. On one occasion I was invited backstage and got to pet Boomer, an 800 lbs tiger, that has since passed. What I found incredible was that if you scratch them behind the ears, they 'purrr' just like household cats, yet the frequency is so low and loud, it actually vibrates the floorboards.

No, AJB was a former, higly respected member of this forum. I havent found that to be the case. While D Lincoln explains when and how the Higgs was found, for example, 'Physics Explained' delves into how the Higgs field/mechanism works, how it gives rise to mass and the detected particle, all with a 'simplified' mathematical model. Check it out ... Just what I needed, another cat video. Like I already don't spend half of my internet time watching cat videos. As a former owner of two cats that I adored, I'm resisting the idea of getting another, as putting the previous ones 'to sleep' after 15 and17 years were two of the most difficult decisions I've had to make.

If you like a little math with your science, try 'Physics Explained' also. When I first started watching him, I thought ( hoped ) it was AJB.

How Spin of Elementary Particles Sources Gravity Question
OK. So, in the case of the x co-ordinate line segment, drawn on x-y co-ordinate graph paper, where the intrinsic separation between points doesn't change when curled to a circle, but the extrinsic separation does, which is the manifold that ... Is it the line segment or the graph paper ?

How Spin of Elementary Particles Sources Gravity Question
Thanks for the explanation KJW; excellent as always. I still have a few questions ... Consider a line segment 20 units long with point A at x=5 and B at x=15. We now curl that segment such that the two ends identify with each other into a circle. The distance between the points A and B doesn't change; it is still 10 units. This is what I would term intrinsic curvature, and separation. Now draw that same line segment on a sheet of graph paper. When the segment is straight the distance between the points A and B is similarly 10 units. But upon performing the equivalent curling operation as before ( into a circle ), the distance between the points A and B is no longer 10 units, but approx. 20/3.14 units, as it depends on both, x and y co-ordinates. I would term this extrinsic curvature, and separation. What am I missing ?

How Spin of Elementary Particles Sources Gravity Question
Maybe I've got it wrong, but 'intrinsic', to me, means that the separation between two points on a manifold is based solely on the parameters of those points. IOW, if two points are specified as ( k1, l1, m1 ) and ( k2, l2, m2 ), then the intrinsic separation is along the manifold defined by k, l, and m. The introduction of the parameter n, to the manifold, would imply you can have an extrinsic separation as there is now an 'embedding' dimension, n . My apologies if I've used incorrect terminology.

Don't usually watch random YouTube videos, but there are some channels I follow. Most are Military aviation related. Some that may be of interest to Forum members are 'Pax Americana' and 'Perun', which deal with Military policy, and for the 'scientists' among us, 'Physics Explained' and 'Veritasium'.

Mechanism of hidden authoritarianism in Western countries
In the US money took the form of gold and silver pieces until private Banks started issuing paper currency, essentially IOUs, to 'represent' the real moneys, during the 1700s. The Federal Reserve itself only started issuing paper 'greenbacks' in 1861, essentially IOUs again, to enable the Government to finance the Civil War. They are now giving us digital IOUs, as money is not based on gold reserves anymore, so they can more easily use our actual money.
