  1. Scientists in laboratories can create a single photon at a time and detect a single photon at a time. Scientists in laboratories can eject and accelerate a single electron at a time and detect a single electron at a time. Scientists in laboratories can eject and accelerate a single quantum particle at a time and detect a single quantum particle at a time. Want to see them? Build Cloud Chamber: Here we have a single quantum particle, of various types (e.g. electron, proton, alpha, muon, pion, kaon), accelerated to near the speed of light, colliding and decelerating with atoms in the medium... or a simulation of it, if you are a "brain in a vat". What does it mean to "see something"? The scientific version: atoms in your retina are excited by photons and create electrical impulses. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina "In the photoreceptors, exposure to light hyperpolarizes the membrane in a series of graded shifts. The outer cell segment contains a photopigment. Inside the cell the normal levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) keep the Na+ channel open, and thus in the resting state the cell is depolarised. The photon causes the retinal bound to the receptor protein to isomerise to trans-retinal. This causes the receptor to activate multiple G-proteins. This in turn causes the Ga-subunit of the protein to activate a phosphodiesterase (PDE6), which degrades cGMP, resulting in the closing of Na+ cyclic nucleotide-gated ion channels (CNGs). Thus the cell is hyperpolarised. The amount of neurotransmitter released is reduced in bright light and increases as light levels fall. The actual photopigment is bleached away in bright light and only replaced as a chemical process, so in a transition from bright light to darkness the eye can take up to thirty minutes to reach full sensitivity." Do you see electric field, magnetic field, gravitational field? No. You see just EFFECTS of these fields on surrounding environment i.e. how other quantum or macroscopic objects change path and react to them. If you see something, does that mean it exists? There are people who claim to see something or someone, hallucinating, after or without abusing psychedelics or drugs. In the middle of this photograph, we see an arrow < that marks two particles coming from nowhere. How is this possible? An electric neutral quantum particle leaves no trace, but its decay produced two new, extremely highly accelerated charged particles. Again, we only see the effect and do not see the source. Therefore, the gap is filled by the theory (undetectable neutral quantum particle).
  2. I think physicists fall into two main groups: theoretical and experimental. It's easy to be a theoretical scientist because it costs nothing, all you need is a piece of paper or a blackboard, but rarely is a theoretical scientist successful, i.e. most theories end up in the trashcan. This is in contrast to experimental scientists. They work in laboratories (CERN, particle accelerators), performing experiments and find discoveries. Einstein did not get the Nobel Prize for his theoretical work. He got it for his explanation and formula for the photoelectric effect. You may have a mistaken impression of scientists on the science websites, because online scientists mostly respond to posts from laymen coming up with new revolutionary theories. They have some "most liked" topics: black holes, dark matter, dark energy, and GUT. All these are topics for which there are no scientific answers as it is impossible or nearly impossible (for now or ever) to study these phenomena experimentally. If you are looking at the Sun, a star or a distant galaxy, your eye, a scientist's telescope, has just absorbed photons. Billions+ of photons with properties: frequency and polarization. The more photons detected ("measured"), the better the image quality. How can you know... to be absolutely sure... the Sun, stars, distant galaxies really exist and are what you think they are? No one has flown there. No one has touched them. If they really exist and are what physicists think they are, no one will ever get to them because they will burn up any device. Therefore in physics we have a division between direct measurements and indirect measurements. https://www.google.com/search?q=indirect+measurement+physics

  4. Internet and especially social networks redefined/degenerated words "friend" and "friendship".. "5 minutes" after registration to Internet social network you are flooded by people from all continents asking for adding them to your friend's list.
  5. An increase in the Earth's average temperature will increase water temperatures. Cold water loving krill will die disrupting the marine food chain, which will affect all humans living near the sea. Some already hot areas in Africa and Asia will become even hotter, making it impossible for people to live there. The result will be a mass migration of people fleeing to more livable regions of the planet such as Europe, North America or Siberia. The influx of peoples will be massive and uncontrollable. This will inevitably cause irritation and protest among the indigenous peoples of the EU, USA, Russia and Canada. I have serious doubts about the validity of your statement that more people die from cold than from heat. Poor African and Asian countries do not make reliable statistics on deaths from overheating and e.g. getting a stroke.
  6. In parallel universes/multiverse every version of knowledge (except math) somewhere is true and some version of history happened somewhere.. If you are looking at a sci-fi movie (or normal movie), or reading a book, it happened, or will happen in the real world... ("Idiocracy" was comedy now thx to ex-POTUS is document) Scientists accept only the universe in which they are now currently. As you can examine only this universe. Have no access to parallel universes nor the multiverse. If you would have, you would end up as a crackpots anyway..
  7. Philosophy, (from Greek, by way of Latin, philosophia, “love of wisdom”) https://www.britannica.com/topic/philosophy Science is an applied philosophy. Measurement, analysis a real-world object and attempt to make a hypothesis and later a scientific theory based on the data acquired. Measurement -> data -> equation -> prediction of future results when the same inputs are given next time.
  8. Solar panels are made of modules and they are made of solar cells. Unsure why do you want to separate them.. I think so energy is used in mining, extraction of rare Earth metals and regular metals, transport, melting etc. etc. It depends on abundance of metal in ore, distance travelled between factories and mines, and so on. Too many variables to generalise.. Typical solar cell is giving 0.5v to 0.6v with low amperage. If you have array of them you have solar panel which can give you more volts, ampers and therefor more power in KW. Divide net cost of production of a thing (without any subventions) by (local country) price of energy and you will have theoretical maximum number of KWh per unit. Exceeding this value would make production economically unviable. The cost of energy is part of product price.

It really doesn't matter. What matters are your good deeds (or at least lack of evil deeds)... (the problem is that different people interpret these words differently.. mostly misinterpreting them..) This is nonsense. The most of Muslims don't even speak Arabic language. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_by_country
  10. Search net for Errno 10060. It is timeout error.. Third parameter is timeout. 60. Did you use such value manually or is it default? Default value can by changed. Use some TCP packet sniffer to see what commands are sent and received. No. You just learnt that you can connect to Raspberry not to the server which is at port 1883. telnet exact IP and exact port to see if there is connection made. TCP sniffer would also tell if script connected or not. This rises the question whether 1883 is the right port? Scan all ports to see which are open. If 1883 is the right port, try connecting with it locally from Raspberry to see whether connection is established. Tutorials "how to setup MQTT server on Raspberry" use localhost as IP, which is typically 127.0.0.1, which is accessible only locally not from remote machines.

  12. If you're wondering who is responsible for all this s*.... (the answer is always the same, but through a couple of sockpuppets..) https://news.sky.com/video/afghanistan-taliban-leader-mullah-baradar-returns-12384306 "Afghanistan: Taliban leader Mullah Baradar returns after release from prison Baradar was arrested in 2010 in Pakistan but was released from prison in 2018 at the request of former US President Donald Trump's administration so he could participate in peace talks." (one might wonder about the objectivity of the August 2021 news, so one must go back to earlier records) News from 2018: https://www.outlookindia.com/newsscroll/taliban-leader-baradar-released-at-us-request-for-political-settlement-in-afghanistan-pak/1417930 "Islamabad, Nov 8 (PTI) Pakistan on Thursday said the Afghan Taliban's former deputy chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar was released from jail at the request of the US as part of efforts to pursue a political settlement in war-torn Afghanistan." 13. Welcome "psychology and psychiatry"..
  14. Stars are formed from materials that already existed in accretion disks. The later the star generation, the more heavy elements the accretion disk contains. At the end of its life, the Sun will consume Mercury, Venus, and Earth, so most of Earth's existing atoms here will become part of the solar red giant.
  15. Worth reading and watching Spielberg's movie based on it, if you are not familiar with it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Amistad
  16. Dig deeper. This is just the first level. Make a list of the owners of these companies. And the owners of the owners..

  19. ln democratic countries politicians want/must to follow voice of the voters. Making unpopular movements (even good at the end for the community) is straight route for being eliminated in the next election. Not without a reason POTUS do more unpopular actions in their 2nd term than in 1st term. Even worse if such antivaxxer, disbeliever in Covid-19 or human made climate change, take a seat becoming influential politician.. such a person will reverse everything good what was done (e.g. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement).. They were brainwashed that COVID-19 is a hoax. I met such people (when they were returning from anti-lockdown protests) and talked with them face-to-face.. Showing them this video: ..imagine what disaster can make such anti-lockdown politician after being elected..

You've watched too much movies with Christian Bale.. "Vice", it was a good movie, but who said it was absolute truth.. ? I mean, he was sockpuppet as well.. Ps. Ohh. . we are in the wrong thread.. Starting political discussion in the thread which supposed to be humourous.. maybe copy & split?
  21. Sensei replied to iNow's topic in Politics
Funny, but he is just a sockpuppet...
  22. "Running hot since ever" or "running hot at the end of their life just before failure".. ? Design issue? In either case: check their voltage and amperage.. If electronics is failing, it can give too much voltage and/or amperage which will damage LED too.. (If you don't have) buy microscope and IR camera for these ultra small boards.. compare still working LED v/a with already broken to find differences. Broken part is often overheating with even low voltage (plug to labs power supply (with controllable parameters)) thus it will be visible on IR camera..
  23. Golfers hate forests, sands and ponds..
  24. Some would say: "Judgement Day is close".. (and people here push me hard to accelerate..) I am asking them: why do you hate your life? so why are you doing what you are doing to yourself.
  25. Thanks Dave. Looks good now. At least devs made it configurable.. ps. Somewhere (e.g. user profile) it still rounds larger quantities to the nearest 100.
