Hey, so pretty much as the title says, I'm looking for some good theories and stuff. To give exact context, I'm writing a visual novel, and need something to sort of base it on (think 999). Anything like Shrodinger's Cat, The Chinese Room, Espers, Prosopagnosia, Split-brain Experiments, Rupert Sheldrake's theories, strange coincidences (like the book The Wreck of the Titan), Ice Nine - really anything like that. It can be fiction (like espers and Ice Nine), proven or not, it doesn't really matter. Mainly unknown theories and experiments are fine - in fact, they're great. The less known, the better. Thanks in advance!

why do electric field lines of force always stay perpendicular to their surface , i mean why do they don't make any other angle with it ?

Hi. Not a subject I know enough about. One kilogram of typical spent nuclear fuel; as put aside to cool and later to storage by the energy industry, if had to be used to warm-up a dwelling in winter... How many Watts would produce for how long? ( If its radioactivity was properly and safely contained, only releasing safe heat, in a world populated with only good angels and no risk of falling onto crooked minds )

Seen advertisements where the ferromagnetic cookware used on induction cooktops turns the cooktop power off when pulled away from the 'burner' by some built-in sensor. Am fine with that. If the energy is magnetically transferred to a ferromagnetic pot; how can the pot be effortlessly lifted without the attraction force impeding the action ? How does it work ? Question 2 : What stainless steel alloy is more convenient for induction cookware that will be used suspended 3 mm above the induction cooktop suface ?

Its obivious that time travel is something that fascinate scifi geeks and not really applicable with current laws of physics but if physics could be viewed from a different point of observation, then it won't be hard for anyone to understand that 'events', past, present and future can all be directly viewed by an advanced particle code breaking computer (apcbc).

I am by no means an expert on this, so I'm probably completely off. But, if our universe was infinite, wouldn't there be infinite gravity all around us? I know gravity is weaker the farther away you are from the source, but an infinite universe should have an infinite amount of massive bodies, therefore there would be an infinite amount of gravity everyone. Since gravity is uniform everywhere, it will cancel itself out, and voila, no gravity. Doesn't this factor rule out the possibility of an infinite universe? I am sure scientists already thought of this, so why am I wrong? Thanks.

I just started my engineering class and as our first assignment we are supposed to compete with other groups in our class to see who can make the highest tower using only 3 sheets of 8.5" X 11" A4 paper and a meter long strip of scotch tape. The highest on record is 110". So far, I've concluded to get the most out my sheets of paper I would need to cut the paper into 11/16" X 11" strips. This leaves me with 36 of these strips along with 3 1/4" X 11" 'leftover' strips that can be used for anything. It would be appreciated if you leave your input as to how I should go about this and at least attempting to beat the 110" tower. Thanks.

Awhile ago I read that some university of whom I do not remember, elongated Einsteins equations so the computer could process them. The computer processed the equations into a simulation and generated gravitational waves that Einstein theorized to exist. I can't find the original science journal or excerpt I read this from but I thought it said that after the simulation his equations were added on too or made more precise? I now think I read it wrong lol. Anyways anybody help to clarify this for me? I'm assuming sense I can't find the journal it was false information or I read it wrong.

Hi, Generally if u see a post mortem skull after a rifle shot injury, exit wound is bigger than entry wound. Shouldn't the bullet lose lots of its energy when coming out, hence smaller wound. Maybe it is spinning or something, but I want to get others views. Thanks

I don't have anywhere near good enough of a grasp on evolutionary biology nor cosmology, let alone combined, to seriously consider this idea. This is more a thought provoking idea that I wanted to share and hear others' thoughts than an answerable question of any sort. I think the chances of life elsewhere in the universe is almost certain. I think the chances of intelligent life elsewhere is high (only intuitively, of course, so perhaps ignorantly too). The idea of us coming across fellow intelligent life in the universe is probably extremely low to nil (just going by the vastness of space and the fact that we can only predict how other life in the universe may come abou…

So, just for fun. I play Eve Online - earlier this year, they had a live event that resulted in a Leviathan-class Titan plowing into a planet from orbit. According to the game lore, very little damage was sustained on the planet - I'm just trying to find out how much impact energy such a collision would actually have. For this purpose, I am assuming the planet itself is roughly equivalent to the Earth in terms of size, density, and chemical composition. Ship Stats: [math]Mass= 2,430,000,000 kg[/math] [math]Volume= 132,500,000 g/cm^3[/math] Given that the ship was in orbit around the planet at the time, and was subsequently forced to crash, I'll assume th…

Hello, I apologise if this is a bit of a daft question, but I wondered if a electrimagnetic pulse were to propogate through spacetime, wouldn't it disrupt our brain function in that our brain has an electric charge? Would it not "short circuit" and cause death? Thanks.

Any thought on what other things, principles and ideas that can never be proved wrong? For example: Law of energy conservation states that energy can neither be destroyed nor created, only that it can only be transformed. Perpetual Mechanical Motion Perfect Vacuum and Purity in substance. Any other things to add? and another question...why is heat the most useless kind of energy?

In this veritasium's newest video, you can see that he shot 2 blocks with a bullet. One in the center, other on the side. Therefore, one block was spinning when it went up, whilst the other wasn't. But, both blocks clearly reach the same height. Also, they had the same amount of energy applied to them (one gun shot), but one appeared to have more energy, since it reached the same height but was spinning. Can anyone explain this?

If "time" went back then forward again, would everything turn out the same? It may be a philosophical question or a quantum or classical one, but I just decided to put it here.

As you may know, scientists stopped light for a full minute. They electromagnetically induced transparency on a crystal, shot a second laser, then turned off the first one, making the crystal opaque. Since it is opaque the light stopped bouncing around. But how does this work? If light actually stopped, it would defy quantum theory because we would know the position of a particle and its velocity. Also, I thought massless particles couldn't stop, period. Can anyone give me some insight on this? Thanks.

A DC motor has two windings, one for the rotor via brushes; and one for the stator to create the 'bias' magnetic field. Fed with separate supplies, the stator magnetic field consumes 1 Ampere at 10 Volts; and the rotor consumes 2 Amperes at 10 Volts. That is 10 + 20 = 30 Watt, and the water pump it drives rises a column of water 25 metres high. That same motor gets a transplant of its stator electromagnets, replaced with permanent magnets that produce the same exact magnetic field. Now the motor driven water pump pushes water to the same exact height of 25 metres high as before in the same time, consuming 20 Watts by the rotor. What is going on? -The …

hello : ) I am trying to find new positive thoughts, great reasons and things to look forward to for when nuclear fusion power stations are connected to our power grids. When we have power sources around the world that emit near zero emission and the fuel to run these stations costs very little, maybe this will open many wonderful doors that will be, until that day, firmly shut due inefficiency and expense. many of these ideas below are wishful thinking, but are not impossible if the governments have control,(not a privatecorp) examples : energize a near zero emission transportation network? filter and separate out poisons/toxins from our drainage …

There is a lot of talk about higher dimensions, and this is a very misunderstood concept in science fiction. Too often I hear dimensions and alternative universes lumped into the same thing. They are not the same thing at all! Dimensions are in fact the most mundane and boring thing in the universe. Dimensions are simply the space in which we live. Our up, and down, left and right, forward and backward. So next time you hear about someone slipping into a set of parallel dimensions and discovering a whole new world. Just giggle and shake your heads at them, because they are quoting one of Science fictions biggest crimes towards public misunderstanding. I in no way beli…
