I have a sweater that is 40% acrylic and 60% polyester. It looks as if it was knitted, i.e. it has little tiny holes in between the threads (see pictures). I'm shortsighted, and when I take off my glasses and put the sweater in front of the eyes, I can see much more clearly than I can without glasses. It's not as clear as when I do have my glasses, and the threads get in the way, but there is a marked difference. I'm guessing light gets diverged like going through a corrective lens, but all it does here is pass through small, physical holes. Why does my vision get clearer when I wear my sweater in front of my eyes?

Hello. I need to know if there is ANY way that a magnet can be made to PUSH metal away, instead of attracting it. Thanks.

THE TRUTH The dreaming in the mind’s eye shapes our world and thoughts, As we seek the truth and pattern in the wonders nature-wrought. We seek the structure in the chaos, the ripple in the flow, To find the truth that really is the universe we know. Some say all truths are equal truths, one truth is truth belied. Others “My truth, the only truth, and proof is faith denied”. Thus minds are held in poverty. Thus souls held in thrall. We are the first, only perhaps, could seek the truth at all. Once the world was flat for us, the sky a dome of blue, ‘Twas obvious to all, therefore, obviously, it must be true. The world sat on a turtle though I ne’e…

I am trying to determine the feasibility of applying electroluminescent paint to my computer case as a mod. I have not been able to find as much as I would like about the specifics of the compounds needed nor whether or not they lend themselves to being applied easily. As I currently understand it electroluminescence requires, usually, at a minimum 4 layers. A dark colored conductive layer, a insulating layer, a phosphor layer, and a transparent conductive layer. I have not been very successful in finding places to acquire these compounds. Can anyone give me any advice in my endeavor?

is there a way of making an entire material out of some form of non-visual spectrum ink or dye? i found this, "To provide camouflage in non-visual range of spectrum, i.e., against NIR detection devices working in the range of 700–1500 nm, it becomes essential that camouflaging equipment should be painted/dyed with the pigments/dyes having NIR reflectance values similar to that of backgrounds in respective shades. Generally, the shades of vegetation and desert regions are confined to olive green, brown, deep brunswick green, light stone and dark stone colour, so it is required that IR reflectance values of pigment formulation must match with the IR reflectance v…

Hi, As I was reading the gas laws - a thought came by, would liquid water change to gaseous form by reducing the pressure only. if yes, at what pressure would this happen - assuming temp is kept constant. Ram Sharma bvgsrs@yahoo.com

Micro & Macro Mix ----------------------------------------------------------------- A positive charge omnidirectionally emits an outgoing electric force, and, a negative charge omnidirectionally absorbs an incoming electric force (paraphrased). Indeed. Moreover. Sometimes opposites do attract, and sometimes they repel. Newton says gravity may be an impelling - or a repelling - force (What this record calls, 'The gravitational alternative'). Einstein says gravity (the cosmological constant) is - at least sometimes - a repelling force; adding furthermore that gravity may be both a repelling and an impelling force. Truly Yours tends to observe that gr…

When an antiparticle of a particle collide from what I understand you get a high energy release. So what in the first place allowed for this energy to take on a stable form? For instance if the big bang supplied all the energy in the universe, and such took on form and so on, what allowed for the energy to be encapsulated into form, such as being a quark? Not speaking directly on any forces or such after the fact of formation, just more directly on how the energy was able to take a stable form in the first place.

Distance, speed, constant acceleration, motion time graphs (including gradients and simple areas), mass, force (push, pull, friction, weight, reaction) i have had trouble understanding what these things are and how to calculate them so if someone could help me that would be great!

I am aware that this is a very stereotypic post for such a new member, but I'm not sure how else to go about this. I want to teach myself physics. I had two years of physics in high school, and that is the extent of it. There are a multitude of books on physics and with such little knowledge of the subject I have no idea where to start. This is where you come in. I am asking for a book list of some sort that gives an introductory progression to physics in general, then to each of the major disciplines within physics. Any help is appreciated, Somerlad

I was wondering if a setup envolving an electromagnet of alternating strength (of feild) and ferrofulid could create sound. I noticed that the ferrofluid I have seems to get smaller when neer a magnet as it is all sqashed together and expands somewhat when on its own. If this was done fast enough sound waves could be produced?

Is rubber rough because it deforms easily into the uneven surface it is in contact with, increasing the grip and so causing high friction. Please help me and tell me the most widely accepted theory.

Having just recently signed up as a member of SFN, a friend has asked that I post the following document relating to molten metal at WTC 1, 2 & 7. The PDF link... http://www.journalof911studies.com/volume/200704/ProfMorroneOnMeltingWTCsteel.pdf Can I ask people to give there thoughts on the accuracy of this document written by Professor Terry Morrone. This seems like the best place for people to look at this through the impartial objective lens of science.

I think this belongs in Physics? I have a 1 litre gas jar full of hydrogen gas at room temp and pressure, I then displace half of it with 500ml of CO2 gas. so now I have a 50/50 mix of H2 and CO2. initially because I was careful the H2 is all the top and the CO2 is at the bottom because it much denser than the H2. now I give the jar a good shake and flip it end over end a few times to make it mixed well. Now, will it Stay mixed, or will the H2 go to the top again and the CO2 down to the bottom? like Oil and Water.

Hello i'm new to this forum and i'm facing some problems while dealing with this question. A particle is moving along the x axis in SHM. It starts from the equilibrium position and moves towards the right at t = 0 s. The amplitude of the motion is 2 cm, and the frequency is 1.5 Hz. 1)The equation for velocity can be determined by differentiating the function for displacement w.r.t. t, V = AWn cos (Wn t) Therefore, the maximum speed will be |V max| = A(Wn)(1) <---- what is this? where does the (1) come from? 2)The time that it first occurs could be found as follow; cos(Wnt) = −1, <--- why is it -1? Wt = cos−1(−1), t = 0.33 s.

I always got confused with this part. In one sense it seems if you could make one you could solve all of everything’s energy problems with probably zero impact ecologically speaking, on the other hand physically most will say its simply impossible going on talking about thermodynamics and what not for instance. Now what I don’t understand is here on earth, I have a constant weight in regards to gravity, or gravity period seems to be a rather constant force. Being gravity has not reached some perfectly absolute level of understanding, I just tend to wonder does gravity and the fallacy that is the perpetual motion machine have anything in common? I mean what powers this con…
