a Chemist friend of mine used to assign his pupils the task of making up words using the symbols from a periodic table, we`ve sat for ages playing this between us over a beer or 7, I thought I`de share some of the fun the task is to either A: make the largest word you can with them, or B: make the longest coherant sentence using them. this then can be split into 2 parts, 1: you can use the same symbol twice, or 2: you can only use them once! enjoy oh yeah, so far my best is "FrAcTiONAl" and "CrYSTaLiNe"

Hey, does anyone else watch the show Mythbusters? I work for Discovery and I’m stoked for the new MythBusters episodes.... The guys are gonna be blowing up steak and pushing the limits of angry drivers on tomorrow's episode which airs at 9pm if you're watching with me, woohoo! I was thinking about taking a break from all the tv viewing since I was glued to Shark Week, haha, but I’m gonna have to make an exception. A little trivia taken from their website for your brain to ponder: The combined weight of all the world’s ants is equal to that of all the humans on earth… True or False? What does the “33” represent on bottles of Rolling Rock beer? The worlds large…

The numbers will criss-cross, so that digit A1 is both the first vertical number's first digit and the first horizontal number's first digit, and I9 is the same way, only replace "first" with "last." This is all the help you will get from me. Help each other, do not expect to do it by yourself. This is like Sasuke, a.k.a…

Consider ten identical glass bottles of pills. Each bottle contains one hundred pills. Nine bottles contain poisonous pills. One bottle contains harmless pills. The poisonous and harmless pills are identical in every way except that the harmless ones weigh 1.1 g and the poisonous ones only weigh 1.0 g. Figure out which bottle holds the harmless pills. Your only tool is a table top scales, and you are allowed only one weighing.

Three men, one of them is blind. They walk into a pitch black room full of hats. All of the hats are black, but two are red. Not able to see which hat they are picking, each man chooses a random hat and puts it on. They then walk outside of the room and into the light. Guy 1 looks at the two other men. "I cannot see my hat, nor do I know what color it is. But I know what colours yours are." Guy 1 one says as he looks at the other two men. Guy 2 says the exact same thing. The blind man gets an epiphany. "I cannot see anything, but I know what color my hat is. As well as both of yours!" He says grinning. What color of hat is the blind man wearing, and h…

Hello, I'm new to the forum. Imagine this: You are in a boat in the middle of a lake and decide to stop rowing for a while and have lunch. When you throw the heavy anchor overboard, does the water level in the lake rise, fall, or stay the same? www.noggintwisters.com

The letters A through M equal 202, hence the letters N to Z equal ??? Does anyone have a clue? I can't think of anything except assigning different integer values to vowels and consonants (which is a no go because then there's more than one solution), or similarly unsatisfying stuff.

Hi everyone, Here is a question I first encountered in 2002. It was from the website http://www.highiqsociety.org/. Since then, they have taken the test that had this particular question down. Here is the question: Note: At first, Planck was spelled "Plank," but the webmaster at the original website stated that "Plank" was a typo (as stated on another forum - see below). Also, there may be some dispute about the spelling of "Block" (Bloch???) and Lippman (Lippmann???). Okay... my first thought was that this is an easy problem to solve. Simple linear algebra... right? This has proven to be a real bi*ch though.... An old (2002) discussion f…

Who can solve this puzzle? You have to find the missing numerical value in the equations below. The small symbols are integers and the big symbols (with small symbols inside them) stand for functions or series.

Sort this out: A universe without Life is not a universe without change. Life without change is death. A universe without change cannot have change. Death is without Time. A universe without Time is not a universe without change, it is a universe without Life. A universe does not have change, a universe is change.
