Most people despise them, and they are a nuisance, but... I work at a dry storage marina part time. We have a huge building in which we store the boats. Pigeons have taken up residence, and the owner hates 'em because of the mess they make. One of the owners requested that his boat be put in the water for the first time of the season. No one knew there was a pigeon nest in the canvas, and when the boat was being readied for the owner, they found a single partially fledged pigeon. They put it in a bucket and brought it to me. Does anyone have any experience raising pigeons? I read that the parents produce a kind of "milk" in their crop that they feed the ba…

I recently moved into a new house. The previous owners had a boat in the backyard. We have a brick patio and a deck, and I noticed the strangest thing. Both the patio and the deck have a very bright green moss in certain spots. There is more on the patio in between the bricks. The moss looks like the same stuff you see on rocks by water. The funny thing is that sometimes I swear I can detect an ocean smell in the air. I remember the owners making a point at settlement of how "green" the grass looks in the spring. I now wonder if it is because the moss is in the grass too. It seems clear to me that this sea moss has started to spread in my backyard. Does th…

http://www.icr.org/ I as an atheist have seen this website and heard a lot about this institue. Supposedly, I heard they have some "scientist" that have Ph.D's in biology. Now, the thing is, (me not being an expert in biology) I have heard from a close and reliable friend, that evolution is a foundation of Biology. Now if this is true, then how the heck does a "christion" become a biologist and try to disprove us using what he learned in biology, if its foundation is evolution? Please answer. Thanks.

Ok, this is one of the most fascinating stories I've read in awhile. http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/node/7036 Apparently Aboriginees fled to higher ground before the Asian tsunami hit (among other things in the article). This is very similar to bears always knowing which way is north, etc. So, what do you guys make of this? Comments...

Hi , does anyone know what is this microorganism? It is a slug like organism which swims in the water and may also walk on algae It has two fan-like structures on its head which spins to catch food particles. The picture provided is at 100X under my microscope. Can't capture full body because it keeps on moving around.

Hello, I’m new here, and I’m only 15 years old. A person and I hava been debating over, is a human an animal or not? Both of us have laid out pretty strong facts, and points to consider. So, i would like to know what the people out there think. And if you have a website link that discusses this argument, please give it to me? Thank you.

I was just thinkign about this in the car a lttle while ago... Stem cells can grow any kind of tissue. So what if you created cell cultures of human muscle? Just make strands of nutrients, and the muscle could grow down. It weould be very cheap to make (compared to the environmental distruction cows are doing) plus, logically, human muscle would be best for you sense it already has all the stuff required to grow!

I was reading an article today about a protein called Lamin A. From what I read the protein coats the outside of a cell's nucleus. Lamin A starts out as prelamin A, and the presence of an enzyme called Zmpste 24 matured the prelamin A into Lamin A. The DNA of cells has been found to repair properly when Lamin A is healthy, but any type of mutation will interupt this repair and cause aging to proceed. They are now developing inhibitors to the enzyme that would interupt the production of Lamin A and in cancerous cells and/or tumors cause aging and death of the cells. Yeah, possible cure to cancer. Well, this is not my question. My question is that if they can inhibit and de…

Which animals have what could be considered to possess emotional faculties? I know there's probably no clear line between what can definitavely be called emotion, and what is simply instinctual impulse, but give me the best answer you can come up with. All i can figure with my pathetically limited knowledge is mammals, and some birds. I guess squids must have emotions cause i heard they are hella smart. Which brings me to another question--- are emotions a sign of being advanced, or of being primitive? they come from a more primitive part of the brain, but it appears that emotions only appear in higher intelligence species. Which brings another question, in the future of…
