Well, I know that I'm not the only one here who has experienced this, for I remember another thread or some posts regarding this. But for the past few days, I've been able to see the future in my dreams. I think it's been happening for three days at least by now. At first, I thought it could be explained by coincidence. But this last dream was pretty convincing. First of all, I had no idea that my aunt was visiting my cousin's house. But last night, I dreamt that I saw her. I said hi softly. Then my cousin says, "Why didn't you say hi to her?" Then I say, "I did. I said hi." Then this scene disappears and another dream happens. Then today, I went over to my cousin's hou…

  2. Here are some questions I have always been perplexed by; 1) Is angina a condition or a disease? 2) How come that energy is produced greating bonds e.g. 2H2 + 02 = 2H20 and the same happens with breaking bonds? 3)Why can you not predict what hapened before 3mins of the begging of universe (besides its expansion) 4)How whould you explain the quantum view of the universe to somebody who believes that every position of everything in the universe is predifined because you can workout the result of an event. 5)What is the point of the zeroth law of thermodynamics - If A=B And B=C then A must = C 6)What are those 3D animated graphs of quantu mechanics th…

Hi, Just saw the movie yesterday (didn't expect much of it) The point of the story was the 3 law robot combined with robot evolution leads to revolution. (well, and some heart bla bla) The problem is the 'through inaction' in the first law. A simple example is air polution we just keep going. (not in the movie) But the robots logic wil calculate that it is a too high price so he has to go in conflict with humans because he wants to protect them from harm. And human commands/corrections don't help because they are only present in the second law. (lower priority) So do we need some maxtime in which the robot is allowed to calculate are safety/future? …

Hi Everyone, I was looking around in my closit, and found an old black light. I was wondering: -What harm could it cause to myself if I turned it on? -How harmful is radiation from typical black lights, does it matter if this one is old, like maybe 15 years? -What common materials may I store it inm ore does it need to be stored in a UV absorber at all? THE MODEL IS A: 365nm Spectronic B-14N with a BLE-220B Long Wave UV Tube. Is that dangerouse at all, is it too powerful??? I look foward to reading your responses... they will save me (or cause me) much worrying.

Using satallite images, the European Space Agency has shown that waves over 25 meters high are much more common than previously thought. Over a three weeks of study across the globe over ten waves were found to surge over this height. http://www.esa.int/esaCP/SEMOKQL26WD_index_0.html

firstly i would like to express that i havent attended a science class since yr.10.. 4 years ago. so if im completely off the mark with this, just say so. i have 2 questions, both are linked somewhat though. firstly. does the earth have its own magnetic force? and is this linked to gravity. secondly. i was watching the discovery channel the other day, and it had a big bit on magnets and the guy who invented that super fast train in Japan.. that raises itsself on magnets and can travel at 400mph or some stupid speed like that. they then moved onto how he would spin a circular weight on the end of a long pole, which would when spun around see to levitate to a …

I've heard of a lot of people saying "oh carbon dating is innacurate and they dated rock that just came out of a volcano and it was 1393321943 years old and how can that be right" and blah blah blah. So, I'd like to know just how innacurate it is, even though I know (from here) that those claims are pretty much wrong. Read the link BEFORE YOU POST!!!!!!!! Oh, and if you have any claims about how innacurate it is, tell me, I'd like to hear them.

I read quite slow on average. I haven't figured out my wpm, but i know that if i look at a clock i am always surprised at how little progress i've made over so much time. So i was assuming someone at these forums knows how to speed read, and hoping they will tell me how. I searched for other threads on the subject and found one that was a novel on how photo-reading cant work, which I'm not sure if is entirely true. What are methods i can use to improve my reading speed, or even the way i read---- i know you can read in bigger blocks than taking it word by word. If i had the time maybe i'd sit down for a few hours and days until i figured it out. But it would be much mor…

Starting another thread Admiral J asked an interesting question "What is the highest(heat) possible temperature? It's interesting that while the lowest possible temp has a value(absolute zero) even though it has never yet been reached. What about the highest or hottest temp possible. The biggest number I've seen is 100Million degrees C, or are there even higher temps?" this thread got a lot of posts but became involved in personality issues and lost contact with the starting question one way to address questions like this is to think about what is the natural scale of temperature---one that makes the formulas clean and simple. And nowadays there is incr…

I have an idea for a long lasting gyro-scope,,,,but not sure if it would be practical for those who are building,,or may have built,,,Robots. It seems that it is very hard to get robots to move as we do because they are unable to balance themselves as we do. The closest robots have come to be like us was made by Honda. But it still does not move as fluent as people do. Here's the questions? Is it because of the gyro-scopes? Or is it more than one problem? And why?

This is a bit of a strange question, and maybe related to science fiction, so most people will just ignore it. Please move this to pseudoscience or engineering if it would be more appropriate there, and I'll take that cue on any further posts like this I might make. Because in the future spacecraft built by different countries or companies might have different airlock mechanisms or external hathes, I was considering about the use of ice as a sealant in forming makeshift airlocks. Does anyone know if, when liquid water is sprayed onto a metal surface in space, would it just splash of off or would it crystallise and form a structure? Would that ice, if built up around…

Why is it, that on a perfectly cloudless day, the sky is most often a deep blue color? The hue of the sky varies from time to time, sometimes going as far as teal. On those rare clear days (rare here, anyway), the color seems to be ideal deep blue found in the scenery in car commercials. Why exactly is this? My guess would be that low levels of dust in the sky makes cloud formation less likely, and allows light to reach us with a minimal hazing effect. But I really don't know much about the weather, so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm way off.

  20. Matter has an order of structure and substructure eh? What if there was an atom that went by a different order of structure? Say the electrons, protons and nuetrons of this atom are all one hundred times smaller than all known elements, actually it would be more than a different elements, cause all the elements are made of particles of the same size, just in different numbers, correct? Mayhaps the substructures of this alternate matter particle are also different (not quarks, or quarks that work differently or somethin). What'd be the properties of a clump of this type of matter? Maybe it could spill through traditional matter, appear flow through it as if it is nothing .…

Have just read 'A Devils Chaplain' by Richard Dawkins. What a nice chappy. Now unless i am missing something (possibly a swastika) his appointment as professor for the public understanding of science at oxford university is a bit politically naiive, assumimg that you agree that recruiting new scientists is the aim of such a position, and that his hardcore atheism is how large sections of the public perceive science. Atheism is not easy to swallow for the vast majority of people, so promoting it as part of science is just dumb. Some questions: 1)Why are science and atheism allowed to remain synonymus in the perception of the public? Science is not dependant on atheism…

I doubt many people will know the answer to this question, but still, I'll ask. I recently acquired an OLD (32 years old) dosimeter from the Diefenbunker Canadian museum. It's an old quartz fiber type, 500 millirems. The problem is, I can't see the reading on it. It's not charged, but I thought that I would still be able to see the marker for radiation. So I don't know if it's broken or just off the scale, so I don't want to get a charger unless I know. So, the question is: On this dosimeter, will it just go off the scale or will the thing just break over 32 years, unopened?
