Ok so I haven't posted in a very long time but I figured some of you could offer me some help or advise. So I have to decide where to go to college and I assume many of you went through the period of total confusion I am going through. So can anyone tell me what helped you decide? And how do you feel about your decision? Any regrets? Did you have a hard time adjusting? Thanks!

Hi! I am a student of 11th standard, in India, and am really worried about my future. You might know that in India Indian Institute of Technology(IITs) are the most sought after, but I want to pursue my undergraduate studies in US Universities. I want to study Aeronautical Engineering, during undergraduation as well as graduation(i.e. Masters). After a bit survey I found that the best institutes in US for the area above are- California Institute of Tech., Massachussetes Inst. Tech. and Stanford. Can Anyone Please Tell Me- 1. What are the SAT scores required for Getting in CalTech, MIT, and Stanford(for Aeronautical Engineering ofcourse!) 2. W…

Anybody else ever taken any of the subject GRE's? If so, what did you think of them? I took the Math Subject last November and thought that it was pretty hard. most other students that I know who have taken the Math also thought it quite hard. Especially in comparison to the general GRE. Which is very easy. Just curious if the other subjects were similar, as I have never had the opportunity to talk with someone who had taken one.

hi, im completely new to science (except for my gcse's two years ago) but i've began to get interested in chemestry and was considering taking it at A level as i have an extra two years before i head off to uni. of course the problem with this is i dont know were to start as i dont know any begginers books covering chemestry and eventually organic chemestry, and i would be much more comfortable entring a corse with basic knowlage of the concepts of chemestry and possibly some experiance of experiments (of course done at home), any ideas for books i should read? oh and the more of them the better as i learn well through reading

I'm always seeing babble about "GCSEs." Can I take one to see how I do? Any discussion seems as though a person obtained a PS3 on its first day of release.

Libraries are full of old books. I mean some stuff in it are no longer acceptable/applicable. Teachers teach subjects that are irrelevant to their skills and degree. Equipments in the laboratories are insufficient. Some can be considered junk because either they are broken or they don't help in the students' learning. The good ones are donated by people from richer countries who have visited out of the goodness of their hearts. Students would rather mind other matters because their is not enough motivation. Shouldn't the students be more motivated since they need to do something and better?

Hey hey all! Just got my GCSE results! I must say I am very happy with them. Here's what I got: English Language - A* English Literature - A Maths - B Biology - A* Physics - A* Chemistry - A History - A* French - B ICT - A Latin - D Ive been told that just the fact i have done latin is a good sign on your record and that employers like it. I was worried about my maths because i needed a B to get into the sixth form i wanted and thankfully, I got it. I got in! (They were only accepting 25 people from other schools which made it even harder.) I'm just so happy and glad. I just wanna wish everyone who got their exam results today congratulations and wel…

Anyone work in the field of medical/health? I am currently in my 3rd year of a 4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences (specialization in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology). The program info/map can be found here. Previously, I wanted to become a doctor but I don't think I have the marks for it and I'm not sure if it is what I still want to do. I'm really interested in Pharmacy and was thinking of working for a biotechnology company making new therapeutics in the future. I received 3 D's so far (1 in Calc II, which I am currently retaking, and the other 2 were in Organic Chemistry II and Biochemistry). I am planning on redoing these over the summer…

  10. I'm writing this post to inform everyone here that I've been accepted to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. As far as I understand, it is one of the best tech/science schools in the nation (Not quite MIT, but pretty close ). From there, I'll major into physics and mathematics.

I have some thoughts on the community college system in the US that I'd like to here your oppinions on. so right now in many states there are dozens of small community colleges that offer verpoor curriculuums, few courses, and in general just cause problems for their students once they transfer to a larger university that demands a far higher level of rigour in the school work. So my question is wouldn't it be better if states built larger campuses to accomidate all of the students? by the basic principle that a larger school is a better funded school, and can offer more diverse classes, and provide for a better experience than a small community college. I…

Greetings, I have a few questions that I can't seem to find with research. I get my AAS in Computer Science in October (mostly network support) I want to continue on and get my BS, but what other options do I have besides computers? I find myself drifting away from computers and more in to physics, biology and theology. Do I have to choose computers, does it depend on the school, or what? Is it possible to go from AAS in Computer Science to a general Science BS degree, then from there move to a MS/PhD that doesn't deal with computers? I don't really know anything about degrees, I sorta jumped right in to college and now it's way too easy and I don't think I'…

Hi, I'm currently doing my 2nd year of MBBS at Anhui University of TCM and I'm loving every bit of it. China is fast becoming the most popular Asian destination for study and I assure you the quality of education is good. Students are awarded an MBBS or BDS degree on successful completion of the course in 5 and a half years. These degrees are recognized by WHO and as such their hlders are eligible to sit for a wide variety of screening tests such as the USMLE and PLB. For more info you should visit http://www.bestcollegechina.com or email chinambbs_2006@yahoo.com. Reubens.

  15. I originally wanted to be a full-scale doctor, but eventually, other life plans began to creep in (that, and I loathe the thought of being up to my shoulders in debt). Additionally, as someone who's spent most of his life hovering precariously above the poverty line, with terrifying dips deep into the realm of Being Really Really Poor, I am disgusted with the high cost of medicine these days. Despite that, I still want to join the medical field. A year or two ago, in reading up on the topic, I hit upon this wonderful idea called 'becoming a physician's assistant'. People like them. They can ask a PA questions they'd be afraid to ask a full doctor. The demand for physi…

  18. Going through college I assume most of you know the situation. You're a science major, yet you have to take courses in history, sociology, and art. Although it's not such a bad thing to know how to explain your ideas through art as Leonardo Da Vinci did, you start to find that very little of this relates to your major. Slowly, your GPA comes out of your grip. What is the point of taking liberal arts courses to obtain an Associates of Science degree? I really don't see the point whatsoever as to why I have to take these courses. Right now I'm taking a U.S. history course and I find that it is completely worthless and I will not use it later on in life. I don't want…

Greetings to all the guys and girls of this forum. "What does this guy want? Go away." The thing is, I'm not knowledgeable like most (probably all) of you are, and I've missed on plenty of basis education that pumps you with general knowledge: the reason being that I had a condition (hyperhidrosis) during my school years that made everything a mess and rendered me useless and socially decapitated for me to fathom anything. Basically, I want in on knowledge but I've missed out on so much (yet managed to pass the classes somehow), I can't move an inch forward. It's not about having a career as much as it is a need to learn; I don't know how to make up for the lost years. A …

If I remember correctly the Bachelor's of Science degree can help a person say, "I understand science a little bit" in a modest sort of way. But I was wondering if a person land a job as a secondary school teacher with it, primarily high school. What can a bachelor's of science degree do for a person? I'm primarily talking about America, but other countries would be of interest to me.

Well having recently started my academic career, I have a tonne of marking to do recently. (By far the worst part about it...) And having my first big batch of important assingments infront of me I've found my first case of obvious plagerism. multiple lines in a row copied word for word from an on-line source. Now for some reason I feel like I'm in a moral dilema. I know I should report it. It'd be the right thing to do. But just the idea of do so makes me feel... ...well like a sack of shit. I feel guilty having to do so, eventhough I've never commited the same act. So it's not some sort of guilt for being a hypocrite. I just feel like I'd be an extree jerk f…

The guy teaching dynamics to our first year undergrads can into my office for a rant today. He was giving his first lecture to the new intake and was going over all the stuff they should know. He mentioned the velocity was obtained by differentiating the position vector with respect to time, and someone put up their hand to ask 'what is differentiation?' He was rather stunned, so conducted a straw poll asking who doesn't know what differentiation is. Out of a class of about 170, 19 people stuck up their hand. On later investigation it was claimed that differention is no longer in the A-level sylibus (I am in the UK) unless you take further maths. I was a bit shocked b…
