1) No known species of reindeer can fly. BUT there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer, which only Santa has ever seen. 2) There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world. BUT because Santa doesn't (appear to) handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total -- 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau. At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes. One presumes there's at least one good child in each. 3) Santa has 31 hours of Ch…

I dont know the first thing about physics, thats why Im assuming this thread is in the wrong place. BUT a friend of mine was asking about the following question. I dont know the answer but couldnt think of a smarter bunch of folks to ask... so: A 2.40kg piece of wood (specific gravity = 0.50) floats on water. What minimum mass of steel, hung from it by a string, will cause it to sink? Any help is appreciated, but no obligations of course. Im sure you have better things to do then answer questions that wont benefit you.

Has the chatroom gone forever or is it just something I'm doing wrong? Did I mortally offend people and now I'm not allowed on it or did the maintenance thingy (sorry about the technical language) do something terminal? I have been "away" due to various commitments and now I'm bewildered.

not much time, but does anyone have any idea for what I could do for a visual on my presentation on shock therapy? I'm covering insulin-shock therapy, electroconvulsive therapy and a few other methods (like Metrazol and malaria-fever) that either sent the patient into convulsions or otherwise helped cure the insane I suppose I could inject myself with Malaria but I'm not that kind of all-out person for school projects;)

Would this work? I noticed that water forms droplets, and that stuff can stick to water and all. I was thinking, if you ran a spray mist of water through some smoke, would the smoke stick to the water. If it did then you could attach this to a tail pipe or something of a vehicle emitting toxic fumes. Stuff like monoxcide could be broken down by platinum catalyst. Things like lead and stuff could be collected by the water and then as the water was collected after it was sprayed would be filtered(not very well). Then the water would go through another cycle and try to remove more air filth. If this idea worked and the water(since it sticks to stuff) if it…

Hey you guys, I'm new here and was wondering if you might be able to help me out with a few suggestions. At the school I attend they assign projects that span the entire school year and are to be presented during the final weeks of our second semester. The projects can be on anything you choose - research, problem solving, building things, etc., basically anything that interests you. You are expected to give a 15 minute presentation at the end of the year and have one final "product" to show for your work. Many kids choose to do an in-depth Power Point or write novellas (well, they call them papers but when they get past the 70 page mark I feel inclined to call them …

Stories get spread like jam on toast . . and what is really true is left to ones research - basically the same 2 stories keep popping up - a friend of mine lives up in Northern Canada near where the bear in these pictures was taken - there is also a corpse they found nearby that was the scond person he allegedly killed. Be forwarned this is true life and grusome... The email from my friend: WARNING: The Ted3 picture is not for queasy people The following pictures are of a guy who works for the Forest Service in Alaska. He was out deer hunting. A large world record Grizzly charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy unloaded a 7mm mag semi-auto into th…

Having just seen a programme about British TV's "The Big Read" where people nominate the 100 best books of all time, I wondered what you all read. I have very wide ranging tastes from Dickens to Stephen King, Jane Austen to Tolkein, Terry Pratchett to Dorothy Dunnett. What do you all like? i would find it impossible to pick one best ever book - what about A.A. Milne's Winnie -the - Pooh, Roald Dahl's Matilda, the list is absolutely endless. I also love the "Dune" series by Frank Herbert. May I hear your thoughts?

I hate sorcerynet. Anyone have any suggestions on good (reliable) networks? I was thinking about EFNet, but that requires an eggdrop, which my host will not host. DALnet is pretty good, but not as reliable recently. Any suggestions?

Hey!! I'm going to moan now. Whenever I go to the chat room there are a few stalwarts (and I DO appreciate the time difference guys) but hardly anyone ever chats. Except Blike and very occasionally Fafalone and Dawid (Ryoken - am I right?) , sometimes davem. Please make an old woman very happy and stop by occasionally to say a few words. I'm so chuffed that I actually can GET INTO a chat room that my enthusiasm knows no bounds. By the way - do you think that Doc Bill REALLY could have gotten all those famous people to chat - personally I doubt it. I LIKE all of you and I like to talk so go on - make my day. Or do I sound like an old sourpuss?
