  1. I know often online petitions aren't worth the paper they are written on, however I would like you to consider signing this, and passing the URL around for other people to sign too. http://www.petitiononline.com/gasci04/ basically the premise is that the Georgian education department is removing all mention of things like evolution and plate tectonics from their syllabus. This will be both bad for Georgia, since less people will take them seriously if their science education is poor, and ultimately everyone else, since (warning: slippery slope ahead) if this makes a precedent, then more states in the US, and possibly countries abroad (though less likely) could fol…

  3. Started by Crash,

Well i was just doing alittle surfing an found this the other day "Some scientists now claim they have broken the ultimate speed barrier: the speed of light.1 Particle physicists at the NEC Research Institute at Princeton apparently have indicated that light pulses can be accelerated to up to 300 times their normal velocity of 186,282 miles per second. In work carried out by Dr. Lijun Wang, a pulse of light was transmitted towards a chamber filled with specially treated cesium gas. Before the pulse had fully entered the chamber, it had gone right through it and traveled an additional 60 feet across the laboratory. In effect it appeared to exist in two p…

This is a little puzzling, its based on a thing i read in a book the other day. If you think about it, you don't have a head. what see in the mirror and what other people see is light reflections, and what you can feel as your head are merely sensory stimuli. So, how can you prove that you do actually have a head?

We should put all the kinds of Forums in the Active topics of the home page of SF. "Other Topics" and "General" are not included as far as I can tell. But maybe no one else wants it to be, if so then it's fine. I would just like it that way.

Just a bit of fun really, but a valid and perplexing question! why is belly button fluff always Blue? it doesn`t seem to matter what you wear red black white whatever, it`s always a grey blue color? almost the same color as the lint filter in a tumble dryer. secondly, how come women don`t seem to have this problem with getting BB fluff in the 1`st place?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3432735.stm It looks like Europe is going to fine Microsoft alot of money (no doubt because the European economy needs it, and all that money would be much appreciated by them freeloading french farmers, but hey.. I'm a cynic) The thing I wonder though, is that they comment on competition from people like apple and Real Networks... but hld on, who the hell actually wants RealPlayer? I am no big fan of mocrosoft at the best of times, but RealPlayer is EVIL.

I was thinking of my favorite sci films....Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Voyage, The Andromeda Strain, Silent Running and of course that all time knock out Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. I remember seeing it for the first time, and what a mind blower. The symbolism is rampant and as Kubrick himself said open to many interperations. Among some of the symbolic interpertations. 1. Homer's Odyssey parallel. The Computer HAL is the one eyed cyclops. 2. The Monolith is touched first by the naked hand of the ape, then the gloved hand of Heywood and finally by the mind of Bowman at the end of the film. 3. Hal only has one red eye (sees things in only …

My parents have made the choice to home school me, since I am having a horrid time in Somerville High School, and feel that I could work a lot more decisively in the constraints of a home enviorment. However, I also need social activities, apart from my friends, so qoutes my dear mother. So is thier any way I could actually get into a lab of some sort to observe? I dont know a terrific sum of information, which mainly pertains to Biology, but I feel it would be incredibly helpful to be in that enviorment. Does anyone know of any institutes or such facilities with labs which may be willing to allow observation on my part? I reside in Central New Jeresy, if that aids in rep…
