Just a suggestion, but would members here consider having their own photographs as avatars.Or a section were people voluntarily post their photo. I ask this because Sandi,Bettina,Yt2095 etc have.I find it will be of benefit to our group to actually see the other person who posts(one big happy family and certainly unique in respect of other science forums,)instead of just typo. I think people would be less aggresive to each other, when they see a familiar face.I know when Sandi posts, people respond in a more civil way(she has that 'carefull my lad im your mother' type of face) no offence intended. Anyway just a thought people

For my 17th Birthday email and PM's This was my first ever BB Bday email. It meant a lot to me. Tonight I'm going out with Dad and his friend for supper, then some clothes shopping with the two of them and some of my friends. Sunday, I got a BIG gift certificate from the senior home where I sing. I was shocked....I really didn't expect that since I told them from the start that I wouldn't accept any money from them. My choir friends got certificates too. So, we went to the mall that night, and I got "SIMS2" for starters. I feel good Bettina

Here's a few questions on superconductors: Superconductors that have electricity running through them can generate a magnetic field just like a wire can, right? How do you make/get a hold of/etc a superconductor? I know they have to be supercooled right now, but how are they made? Are normal conductors just dropped in temperature until they become superconductors? Could one be used to interact with Earth's magnetic field to produce a lifting force? (That's on a whim) How do they work, in brief?

I need to write a novel for school, so I think I'll write a SFN based novel. It will be about the world after a massively enourmous hurricane wipes out most of the worlds population. Although the plot is slightly negotiable. I need charactors. To participate, email me at shaviland1@comcast.net I will need your email. You may choose weather your charactor is good or evil, and any other specifications you care to make.

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Cap%27n_Refsmmat/ScienceNews After a bit of debate, I made a column on Wikinews (a news source that anybody can edit. It's a wiki, like wikipedia) that is all about science and technology news. It's only two days old, so don't expect too much right now. Much of the material is also from my little-used blog which was for the same purpose. However, on Wikinews, I hope to get more attention so I can continue and make this a great souce for science news.

I am almost through my junior year of college. When i was a freshman i had the desire to enter medical school. I knew of the road ahead back then, and it was what i expected. But as i went on and filled more med school requirements, i was exposed to other areas of science and saw they intrigued me more than the prospect of becoming the surgeon i wanted to be. There was a point last year when i focused no longer on the necessary pre-req's like a&p and instead invested more time into chemistry classes. The idea of doing drug discovery is fascinating. I had several discussions with my chemistry professors who, obviously, advocated graduate school in chemistry. Both medic…

Really, who's the bigger slut, the luscious and lascivious lindsey lohan or the hot and hedonistic hillary duff? Why? What are their failings? Their Attributes? Talents? I'm bored, an we were talking about during government today, so I thought I'd get a better idea of the public's opinion before reporting to my class

I have been thinking for a while now about what will happen in a few decades when we can effectively automate many of the tasks that make up the bulk of workforces in the world. Things like: stacking shelves, driving buses, checkout clerks, call centres, security, cleaning, waiters, fast food industry, factory work etc could all become jobs of the past, only creative positions would remain and people could have exceptionally short working weeks while still keeping the economy booming. Here are some of the question to think about: How would this impact on peoples perception of money? What would people do? Would goods become so cheap to make that we could have…

You ever notice how most people are a walking bag of contradictions? We have a knack for holding dichotomous beliefs, and then touting our beliefs like they are the only logical beliefs one could hold. This is, perhaps, most obvious in those who are involved with politics and religion. I'm including myself in that group, but I try to acknowledge the fact when I find myself having two beliefs that can't coincide (and usually one gives in). This forum has helped me to realize many contradictions in my own belief systems. Nevertheless, it's quite amusing pointing out people's contradictions, and then watching them tip-toe around the crumbling mountain of logic they'v…
