I think all too often the praises of sandwiches are humbled. Places like subway and the like have lost the classic aspects of a sandwich. So i wanted to create this thread devoted simply to the art of sandwiches. the best food next to tacos. so, discuss, and build your favorite sandwich. nothing pretentious like pickled galvanized nails on sourdough. so, sandwich: Boiled ham, roasted peppercorn turkey with havarti dill cheese on seeded jewish rye topped with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, spanish onions and a jalapeno mustard. or mayonnaise pending the mood. I want to hear your sandwiches for inspiration!

Maybe this is the wrong section... Anyway, I was wondering do you think or can you say with certianity whether or not intelligence varies in large amounts between people. If you took a population and gave them all sorts of test with several different aspects (Alot of people would find IQ not so great for putting a number on intelligence, but it is an indication of something, but for I guess best results or compliance, other tests would be done) of intelligence do you think overall there are clear groups of people that are exponentially smarter than the rest. Take people like Einstein (accepted as smart) and compare him to say an average person, how much difference is …

Well, right now im a sophomore in high school so I still have a lot of time to decide what I want to do with my life, but I still want to figure it out. I really like physics so I've always thought I go to college for that. The only problem is that I'm not sure what kind of career that would lead to. Like I get my degree and then what? I've also thought about being a teacher in high school buit I'm not sure about that. It would be cool to be a college professer or something but again I'm not sure about if I want to do that and it seems like it would be hard to get a position like that. My main problem I guess, is that I'm not sure what I would do with physics …

Post your nominations for "post of the week" here. It can be a single post, or just part of a post... just funny, or a great intellectual contribution. The best nominations will enter into a public vote on Friday. My nomination for this week is the first line of this post: http://www.scienceforums.net/showthread.php?p=309711#post309711

I represent AccessMyLibrary, a coalition of 13,000 libraries. Our goal is to bring news and publications normally available in a library to the general public. We have more than 4100 magazines online, and every one is free to read. This includes a lot of newspapers and magazines that normally require a subscription.. Below are links to some specific science related publications: Science News http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/browse_JJ_S134 Science News for Kids http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/browse_JJ_S267 Science Progress http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/browse_JJ_S230 Science Weekly http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/browse_JJ_S184 Science…

Something (perhaps past polls) tells me that people here read books, at least a lot more than most of the population. So, what are you reading now? I'm reading The Long Tail, a book about the transformative power of the Internet in connecting people to niches, so everyone's taste begins to wander farther from the mainstream. If you can capitalize on those wanderers, you can actually make MORE money than if you focus on the mainstream. Why? The answer is a long tail statistical distribution in terms of what people consume: This pattern is seen in a number of online retailers, including Amazon, Netflix, Rhapsody, and the iTunes Music Store. eBay and Goo…

I do not want to accuse anybody of doing anything wrong, but I'm getting the impression that somebody here is up to no good. I'm hoping that one of the honest moderators of SFN will see this thread and help figure out what is really going on. Somebody has been trying to hack into my forum today. He or she was rapidly making password reset requests for my administrator account. I received over 20 notifications of these requests in my e-mail. Here is a screenshot of my inbox: At the same time, that person was attempting to login the forum using my username and different passwords. Somebody was obviously really trying to break into my forum's administrator …

In another thread, somebody suggested that I bring more visitors to my forum by registering as multiple users and having them talk to and argue with each other. Somebody else said I probably wouldnt be able to accomplish that because the writing styles and beliefs of my users would be too similar. I think it would be fun to see how many different personalities all of us can try to be. Ill write a few paragraphs, and pretend to be people who are completely different from me. Here I will try to be a teenage girl talking to another girl about a boyfriend… Hey girl, whats up? Jason and I had the best time last weekend! We went to the movies and then h…

Hello Does anyone have recogmendations for books in regards to ancient technology (water screws, levers, aquaducts...). Spend so much time on modern technology, thought I'd go back and refresh myself on what was designed and invented by past civilizations. Since much of what we use is based on what they had. Mr D

I'm not big on sleep, and Ive heard that you can sleep a couple times a day, slowly training your body to sleep less and less. Anyone know if sleeping multiple times a day rather than 6-8hours at once is better/worse for your body?

Has anyone heard of any future plans for producing TVs (and PCs maybe?) producing 3D images? I am about to invest a lot of money on a very large screen TV but feel a little reluctant. The science is advancing so fast, I keep getting this feeling some manufacturer is holding back a nasty surprise for prople in my position. If anyone has heard of any recent 3D imagery plans for TVs please let us know...

Recently I purchased the eyeQ system for speed reading. I am skeptical of the program's claims about its credibility. Dr. Akihiro Kawamura, the PHD that the website claims to have created the system in the 80s, is nowhere to be found on the internet. Many of the claims made by eyeQ seem to be of the pseudoscience sort. From the website: SCIENCE The research of Dr. Kawamura and others suggest that the way most of us are taught to read, think, and learn can later hinder our ability to effectively process information. Along with other scientists, Dr. Kawamura has found that one of the keys to learning to read and process information faster is use of a "whole br…

I was thinking the other day, about how when lobsters are cooked, instead of being killed prior to cooking, they are boiled alive. This just seems to me to be a particularly painful way to die. So do lobsters feel pain like we do? Is it as cruel as it looks?
