I'd like an admin/mod to move my thread named "Addendum to..." (it's about 10 more threads down from here). I need it to go into the It's official: US tortured Gitmo prisoner discussion. Also, how many posts before I can just simply post there directly? My official post count says "6" but I have a feeling it's not counting them all either, for some reason. Regardless, I'm going to begin posting around so I don't have to keep asking for a "transfer". Once again, I give thanks to whicher admin/mod does it.

A man in Ohio may have given away his real plans to rob a bank when he stood in line wearing a ski mask. I kid you not. Apparently, robbing a bank was okay by his standards, but cutting in line... now THAT goes too far. http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20090109/UPDATES01/90109024 A man may have tipped his intentions when he stood in line at an Ohio bank wearing a ski mask before staging a holdup. Police in Stow near Akron say a 24-year-old man was arrested minutes later on Thursday following a brief car chase. Maybe we should send our kids to mandatory ninja classes, wha'dya think? Although, that could lead to additional problems when the more hefty…

This is a very interesting article from the BBC news: The 'first true scientist' By Professor Jim Al-Khalili University of Surrey An artist's impression of al-Hassan Ibn al-Haytham Isaac Newton is, as most will agree, the greatest physicist of all time. At the very least, he is the undisputed father of modern optics,* or so we are told at school where our textbooks abound with his famous experiments with lenses and prisms, his study of the nature of light and its reflection, and the refraction and decomposition of light into the colours of the rainbow. Yet, the truth is rather greyer; and I feel it important to point out that, certai…

I have research a lot of evidence to suggest that Ben Franklin was involved in illegal anatomy. This evidence suggest that the body’s were found in his home were 4 adults and 6 children all with saw marks and drills. This was because that grave digging and stealing body came illegal and murder was an option for many anatomists. what do you think?

Whats the meaning behind your username? Mine comes from back in my AOL days (private room: VB, VB5). When I first started using AOL I got into programming little "proggies" to run on top of the AOL software. Everyone who programmed had an alias, and so I needed one. I started out calling myself "one", but I quickly realized everyone and their mother probably went by that name. Soon thereafter I made the screen name OnE2BLiKe (one to be like). One day i was like hrm....I think I'll call myself blike... ...that was around 5 years ago. Now all of my online names have blike in them and its typically what people call me online. Now that I've shed light on my shamef…

I planted serrano peppers this year and they're just starting to be ready for harvest. Anybody have any good hot sauce recipes? I've been wanting to make my own for a while. (Also growing my own tomatoes and garlic)!

So, we have multiple examples of iconic music in our past. Monkey Man by the Stones comes to mind. Imagine by Lennon. Even Born in the USA by the boss. Whole albums by Willie Nelson or Neil Young also fit the bill. What music has come out recently that you think will achieve the iconic status? What songs by what people will stand the test of time? I posted this in the General Discussion forum, but please feel free to speculate. Who are the performers to watch? What are the songs to hear? DISCLAIMER: I need a new album in my collection that won't bore me after a week.

Well, now that I'm back, I'm going to disappear again, albeit only for a bit more than a week. Every alternate year, Brown sponsors a trip for the new grad students and a group of undergrads to Belize for a trip into the jungle and then fieldwork on a small coral island. Unfortunately, this means I'll be without internet from the 11th to the 20th. On the upside, I leave freezing Providence for a week in a tropical paradise, and may actually get to do some experiments I've wanted to for a long time (brittlestar locomotion). Mokele

I need to know some decent books/authors for the following topics: 1. Astronomy and Cosmology Phsics 2. Modern and Theoretical Physics 3. Relativity 4. And...why not, maybe one about Genetics. I would really appreciate some books, or some famous Science authors to look for. I prefer to read books than to connect various information across the internet. Make sure they are not advanced books, im new to Physics.

As of today, January 4th (well, it's still today here...), I've been a member on SFN for five years. Wow. Back when I joined I knew practically nothing about science, hardly understood the conversations on the forum, and of course made about 25 posts per day. (I still hate reading old threads that I posted in. You can tell I was clueless.) In the time since, I've learned enough that I can actually participate and sound somewhat intelligent (at least I think), become a member of staff, turned 17, and learned how to manage a complex Linux server. Without the existence of SFN, I would never have learned as much about science or been nearly as interested in it…
