Old news but, I just can't live without................. I have been programming computers since I was five. I started on a Commodore 64 and worked my way up from there. I was probably one of the first hundred thousand individuals to communicate through modem and chat on BBS and IRC(probably one of the first ten thousand pirates.) I played so many Sierra games that my sense of humor is permanently twisted. But alas I have never actually owned a computer; well one that actually worked anyway. I came close once when I was 14! I had a 386 SX 25 if I remember correctly. It had a hundred meg hard drive and 256k RAM. The hard drive had a broken pin on it so I had to…

  2. Well, the title is pretty self explanitory, but we all know where parents tell you to eat your carrots because they'll help you see in the dark. Is it really true? To some of you this'll seem like a dumb question but I'm just wondering because of the health effects of carrots (positive) and wether the effects have any relation to seeing in the dark. Any ideas?

I'll be going underway for about a month starting Monday. We'll be doing flight deck certification and carrier quals. That means no SFN for me for the next month. Try not to miss me too much.

In case the SFN general population does pay attention to our blog section, I'm hosting the 12th edition of the blogging classic science carnival "The Giants Shoulders". See my announcement here. I'm fronting $15 prize money for the best blog post. It would be really great if we kept that prize in the "family." So come on SFN bloggers, lets show the blogosphere what we're made of!

I have now been trying to recieve justice from u.k. government but instead have been subject to a thin wall of silence which i intend to break through and recieve justice . This for the gretaer good attitude simply will not do all it does is protect incompetence and people fearfull of being exposed as such , Whilst employed under a M.O.D. contract i had my civil and human rights abused along with others , but trying to process complaints by government bodies has been fraught with danger now my elderly pensioner prents are being targeted by outside…

It is usually in far off rural areas that a government may not have bothered to enforce with any local stationed regulators. Found a video on anarchy vs statism (government) Part 2 Part 3

  18. Hi guys. Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name's Simon. I'm currently asking people such as scientists or those with an interest in science and other people with view on life one question: If you could say one thing to the world, what would it be? All of the answers are being placed on a website I'm currently working on, so your quotes have to be something close to your heart. I think it's quite interesting and quite good fun! Please leave your comments here and I will then place them on the site and get back to you with a link so you can view all of your own quotes. Thanks guys! Simon

Hi, I didn't know where else to post this because usually it would fall under natural phenomenom. If a moderator has any clue where to put it please feel free to move it to the correct section. I was wondering why people mysteriously "vanish" into thin-air as it were when flying/sailing over the bermuda triangle (located near South Carolina I believe).. Some if not most scientists are saying it is methane pockets under the water but I'd like to know more and some of your ideas of what it is or if you could explain about what causes the methane pockets or why they're there/what they do, if you can do this I would be grateful. Regards, Alex.

There's a debate that's been constantly talked about. That is, is there such thing as free will? What is free will? Free will is the ability for us humans to make our own decisions based on analysis of the event. Does it exist? Or is it a specially set chemically formula within our own brain triggered my certain stimuli meaning we don't have free will? If we do have free will. How is it that we are able to control our own decisions based on events? Post your opinions here, and let's try to keep religion out of this. Pure science all the way.

I don't know do you guys have this problem. My summer school session started today. I take an English Reading and Written Composition class along with a Tennis Course. Each of them at least 2 hours. I don't think I will have a problem to be participated in tennis class, but I do in English class. Today our teacher gave us some introductions to this class with explaining his syllabus rules. While being participated in the class, I was thinking about some other things. This led me which I could not be concentrating in class 100%. I wish to get an A for this class; I want to do it the best. Do you guys know any of well-known medicine that can make your brain concentrate on j…

  22. I thought this was interesting: crazy Singularity futurist Ray Kurzweil has accepted a bet from some angel investor I've never heard of: http://www.longbets.org/1 The bet is simple: will a computer pass the Turing Test by 2029? What do you think? I think it's entirely possible, but when you start talking about near-term hard dates like 20 years in the future it seems like little more than a guess. If they changed the betting window 50 years (i.e. 2059), then my answer would be a definitive yes. Note that this is more than just a friendly wager. If the angel investor wins, Kurzweil will donate $20,000 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. If Kurzwei…

Hi there Just wanting to know what the tiny lights are that I see during daylight hours, not looking up at the sun or anything, but they zoom around right before my eyes without interfering with my vision. If I allow my gaze to become unfocused they appear more brilliantly and are really quite pretty. I am not a science person so layman terms would be great Thanks in advance
