Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Supposedly, microseconds following the big bang; an absence of the Higgs boson allowed our universe to expand at a runaway speed many times that of light. After a short span of time, a few milli/micro seconds or so; the Higgs boson materialized to infuse the entire universe, and light speed became the norm. Theory is that the Higgs controls the speed of everything in the entire universe from a feather to a meteor to a galaxy. A fascinating conjecture, but now the theory seems to have fallen on hard times, and red shift once again is dictating that the universe is now speeding up. Are we to believe that after fourteen billion years, our universe is speeding up to surpass l…

For many years since my childhood in the late 70s and early 80s i didnt have dreams. I allways wondered why i didnt have them. I thought it unfair. What had i done to deserve it. Then for a year ago i started an adventure into something i thought was impossible. Up until that time i didnt realy belive in any religion, or that we could be living in a "matrix", to be honnest im not sure what it realy is. Maybe it needs to be so for me to belive it. I started experiencing many wierd things. Things that should be impossible. I started seriously being able to read peoples minds, those in my life and some people even online. Some i failed doing it on, why im not sure. But i t…

Infinite levels of consciousness and energy. "The plants exist on levels of consciousness from one through seven. They are on a vibrational rate on the levels one through seven. It is the same pattern. Animals exist on the levels of consciousness from eight through fourteen, and when a person attains, when a consciousness attains level fourteen, it can no longer go any higher unless it is willing to change its form of consciousness. Levels of consciousness from fifteen through twenty-one are what you call human life on this earth. When a person progresses to level of consciousness twenty one, he then has the choice of going high…

I hadn't heard of the idea of 'gravimotion' before the thread on E=MC^2's applicability at the quantum level. I don't know what gravimotion has to do with that, but I googled it and I find it an interesting idea worth discussing. It is also a question I've wrestled with myself: why can't gravity be explained as simply as lots of matter falling at the same rate? Spacetime curvature could then be held responsible for the fact that the matter tends to concentrate and build up a 'dam' (the ground) that blocks water and atmosphere from continuing to free-fall. I don't know what, then, would explain the curvature of spacetime that causes matter to 'jam up' into a 'dam' suc…

I was watching a documentary on holographic reality. Long story short the person speaking said that what we see could possibly be a hologram that is projected from a black hole. This got me wondering if the human eye could in a since be acting as a black hole. When you think about it, light enters the pupil and does not exit. light is made up of photons which have mass which in turn makes it mater. When we see things, we are seeing the reflection of that object. Technically the photon is encoded with information from the objects the light is being reflected off of allowing us to see it. My question is this, what happens to the matter that enters your pupil, is your eye in…

  8. Part 1: Slow glass... From a thread in the Relativity forum: http://en.wikipedia....ight_in_fiction "'Slow glass' is a material where the delay light takes in passing through the glass is attributed to photons passing '...through a spiral tunnel coiled outside the radius of capture of each atom in the glass.'" Suppose you had complete control over the path of light through some volume. Even with light traveling at c, a long curving path would take longer for light to travel, and could be used to delay light. A fractal path on an arbitrarily small section of a plane can have an infinite length. Quantum limitations might make a true fractal path impossible…

  9. I was reading over at science news about "The End of Space" by I Got Wisdom (or some such ) but not allowed to comment (topic locked). Since God showed this to "Got Wisdom" I won't bother to pursue this one too closely. One thing did bother me and that was that on The Onion they were talking about the Hubble Kaleidoscope (Is A Kaleidoscope for real ?) and how astronomers have recently observed total "Weirdness" out in space with this thing. What is the Hubble Kaleidoscope and is The Onion reporting valid/serious science/astronomy news ? I went over to http://www.astronomy.pomona.edu/penprase/BEPresearch.website/Default.html This one has links to somet…

  10. Elementary proof of the FLT The designations of the numbers, which participate in the proof, become clear from the following relationships after the elimination of the general cofactors 0°) - let us assume that this is possible, - in the numbers A^n, B^n, C^n (for the beginning AB is’not divisible by n): 1°) A^n+B^n=C^n, 2°) A^n=C^n-B^n=(C-B)P=a^np^n=(ap)^n, 3°) B^n=C^n-A^n=(C-A)Q=b^nq^n=(bq)^n, 4°) C^n=A^n+B^n=(A+B)R, 5°) A+B-C=U=(A+B)-C=A+(B-C)=B+(A-C)=ap-a^n=bq-b^n=uabc*, where c* - greatest common divisor of the numbers C and A+B (it’s obviously that c*>1), from here 6°) C=A+B-uabc*. 7a°) It’s obviously that the numbers A^n+B^n, C^n-B^n, C^n-A^…

As a bachelor, when going to the market yesterday I bought only 2 ears of corn. Brought 'em home, shucked them out and left them on the kitchen table to steam for supper. Didn't use them, so they lay there last night. Thought I'd put them in the fridge this morning but, "Zap", there's a "big" golden spider claiming one of the ears as if it belonged to her. It became a Mexican standoff, so I took the ear and her outside and shook the girl off my porch. Since I spray my entire home with insectiside each spring in early May and havent seen any evidence of spiders or other critters til this morning. Tell me? Is that instinct, good olfactory glands, or what?

Hello SF, I'm new and wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if it's the wrong place. I assume most of you genii know of the Endosymbiotic Theory (mitochondria and plastids originally being individual organisms). Well since chloroplasts were/are likely alive and decided to live in plants, would it be possible to place them into other organisms and have a symbiotic relationship form? Or could we give an archaeon or bacterium some mitochondria and see what happens? Could we give ourselves chloroplasts and photosynthesize? Would we need to add chlorophyll to our skin pigment to be able to? Is it at all possible?

Many people only see the God Helmet in terms of explaining some religious/out of body/alien experiences. I, however, think it might eventually be possible to use the basis of this technology for more constructive uses. Two things to note: 1)The technology creates mental experiences. 2)People remember the experiences. Number two is very relevant here. If we have a complex enough helmet with sophisticated programming, could we not use it to imprint a database on the brain of the user? Given several exposures to the same database imprinting, could this not be used to ultimately upload the database from the computer to the user? One could learn Kung F…

Once upon a time, sailing ships dominated intercontinental transit. Today, passenger jets have replaced the function sailing ships once had. Do you think it would be possible for sailing ships to bear all intercontinental traffic once again? If they did, do you think intercontinental travel would decrease due to the inconvenience or do you think sailing ships could provide sufficient convenience to satisfy modern consumers despite the long travel duration?

I called neutronium the matter inside a neutron star. I was wondering if we could take a teaspon of neutronium, and bring it outside of the gravitationnal field of the star, what would happen ? I know that it would be almost impossible to do that, a teaspon would weight many tons here on earth and I have problem to imagine how it would weigth on the neutron star ! Will the neutronium turn into a neutron soup and neutron decay into a proton and an electron and form hydrogene H1-1 ? Will it create super heavy hydrogen isotope like for example H1-10 ? Just curious

  19. We know that during the big inflation that distance was spreading faster than light. So I'm thinking that maybe the big nothing that existed prior to the universe was an infinate flow of faster than light expansion existing along side fields of faster than light contractions. Perhapse charge, wich can exist without time or distance per my understanding, comes from the friction of these two fields of basically nothing more than momentum. Perhaps the positive and negative charges canceling each other out causes a disturbance and this momentum to spin into tiny little vortexs. The low preasure zones of these vortexes might cause like charge to condense into electrons and pos…

It has recently come to my attention that space and time are not the same thing. So I'm wondering if time is an energy that occupies space? Does it eleminate the true vacuum of space? is it some kind of force field residing in and disrupting the true vacuum of space? If so does this field have an associated particle like all fields according quantum mechanics? Are length, width, and depth, dimensions relative to the time field density they occupy? Do you think virtual particles exist in virtual (nontime) space and that when they hit the surface of a timed space they draw together and pop like and air bubble coming out of a field of water? could the universe be descri…

Atoms with its electrons, Properties of the nucleus in the atoms, makes the potensial wave electrons. I belive gravity on a small scale inside the neucleus makes the potensial wave electrons outside. The electrons is like a "ghost" particle which only can have potensial energy, it will never acrete matter to it, instead it directs the formation of molecules. Planet is like a big atom, outside it has its electron (moon). The moon was first a potensial moon, a "ghost", because i belive gravity made the potensial moon, so it could acrete matter to it. Sun is like a huge atom, and our planets are its electrons, they of course also started as potensial planets aka "ghosts…

  22. This hypothesis is based on the fact that, in terms of the general theory of relativity, space-time is curved according to non-Euclidean geometry. Especially noteworthy here is that the curvature of space-time is applied uniformly to all physical phenomena of the micro- and macrocosm. In this way, elementary particles can be described in approximation as "Einstein-Rosen bridges in miniature format" which have both particle character as well as wave character. But in addition, the development and structure of the universe can also be depicted based on this understanding in this paper. Thus, with the help of the general theory of relativity, this hypothesis succeeds in des…

  23. First of all, I am taking the liberty to send my thesis. It is known that Einstein's theory of relativity is established on Michelson interferometer experiment. However, people have great difficulties in finding a more satisfying answer to explain some unaccountable paradoxes like “Queer circle of grandparent and grandchild” or “Self murdering of newborns” derived from this theory. In that case, my thesis will temporally give up questioning the logical issues. Instead, it will propose a new theoretical viewpoint according to the optical homodyne of Michelson interferometer experiment from a perspective of space dimensionality. This new point can help to explain all questi…

What Caused the Big Bang? We know that a Big Bang happened, but how did it happen. Nobody really knows, but I will hypothesize one idea. My idea is that we were created by another universe with a black hole and any universe with a black hole can create another universe. So, how is it possible that a black hole can create another universe? Let’s begin on how a black hole is created. A Black Hole is created when a heavy star, more than 25 times heavier than the Sun, has no means to withstand its own gravity as it dies; collapsing into a black hole. So, now how can a black hole create another universe? If the weight of the heavy remnats of the star, causes the …
